This book was the first book that approached the subject of genetic coding with such a clearity that I was thrilled to read something on this subject that I could finally understand. Thank-you Debby for such a helpful book.

Lovely Puppy Calendar For Lab Lovers!
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 2004-08-09
For any of us who have an undying love for puppies, and Labrador Retriever puppies in particular, this 2005 calendar is the perfect gift for friends and loved ones. What better way to celebrate your love and appreciation for that four-legged wonder in your life than to have one of these calendars hanging in their workplace or dormitory room, so they can casually gaze at one as they slog along their busy way each day? I know having such a calendar hanging in my office often breaks the ice with students who otherwise might feel intimidated. My only problem is that with both yellow and black Labradors myself, I have to either alternate the calendars year by year or buy one of the versions that has all three varieties (black, yellow, and chocolate. This calendar nicely solved my fetish, as it features a dozen shots of Yellow, Black, and Black Labrador puppies in its monthly renderings. Yet, whatever version you may prefer, the Browntrout series of calendars is a great ornament to have deocrating your wall, or to give to someone who loves them as a gift. Early Merry Yuletide, and enjoy!

An Excellent Resource
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.

Like the other TFH publications for the various breeds, this is a great resource for the family dog owner. I'm not sure how useful this book would be to a serious breeder/trainer or kennel operator (which I'm not). Much of it is "entry level", but well presented and organized. Typical of TFH, there is an opening chapter dealing with the origins and features of the breed (Labrador Retriever in this case), then much non-breed-specific (but comprehensive) information on behavioral topics, training, health care, feeding, breeding, and legal considerations. Printed on heavy, glossy paper with many nice photos of the breed. My copy served me well with my Lab mixed breed - although we never did get that digging problem figured out. Pick up a copy and look it over before you bring home your dog.

Terrific Weekly Engagement Calendar For Dog Lovers!

What better way to celebrate your love and appreciation for that four-legged wonder in your life than to have one of these calendars propped up on your desk in your office, so you can casually gaze at one of his or her cousins as you slog along your busy way each day? I know having such a calendar in my office often breaks the ice with students who otherwise might feel intimidated. My only problem is that with both yellow and black Labradors myself, I have to either alternate the calendars year by year or buy one of the versions that has all three varieties (black, yellow, and chocolate. This version nicely serves by having a variety of Black, Yellow, and Chocolate Labs prominently featured, and the shots are so striking and so memorable you may want to frame a few after the year is done. At any rate, this is a great ornament to have decorating your desk, or to give to someone who loves them as a gift. Enjoy!

This a very cute book all about Labradors. I may be biased, as I am the owner of the Lab (Zebediah) who is bing brushed in this book. We think his first book will be a huge success!

In admiration of cowboys . . .
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2004-11-17
Photographer Schreiber is a romanticist of the West, with an eye for the individuals who choose life and hard work in the outdoors. His deep-focus black and white photographs often find their subjects in the foreground against the vast landscape, an empty sky, or a large sparely furnished room. The strenuousness of the work can be seen in photos of men slouched in chairs or on the ground, staring blankly.

Some pictures have familiar subjects, such as branding calves and roping horses. Others are nice surprises: four men talking together and leaning across the hood of a Ford pickup, a backyard photo of a wedding party, the groom and two best men in big cowboy hats, a cowboy outside a liquor store holding a flat of six-packs. Schreiber in his introduction says the cowboys he's known embody the qualities of honesty, integrity, sincerity, and kindness. This collection of photographs is a celebration of those values.
