Breeds Books

I know it is a bit late in the year to be buying a 2004 calendar, but the photos in this one are so awesome that I wanted to mention it, for you can literally cut the photos out after using the calendar and frame them. There are a variety of shots, all taken by professionals, and they all add together to contribute to the overall charm and attractiveness of the calendar. I have one in the kitchen, so as I am feeding my hoarde of five dogs I can glance up to see even more Labs staring back at me from the wall. At any rate, this is a wonderful calender, and it is certainly something anyone who loves Labrador Retrievers would love to have looking back at him or her from the wall of choice. Enjoy!

I know having such a calender hanging in my office often breaks the ice with students who otherwise might feel intimidated. My only problem is that with both yellow and black Labradors myself, I have to either alternate the calenders year by year or buy one of the versions that has all three varieties (black, yellow, and chocolate. Which ever version you prefer, the "JustLabs" series of calenders is a great ornament to have deocrating yoiur wall, or to give to someone who loves them as a gift. Enjoy

Outstanding! Written by the Edith Izant, a long-time Kerry breeder and well respected judge. One of the canine worlds most informative sources on the breed. You will enjoy the photo's, as well as, a somewhat uncertain origination of the breed. See photo's of some of the worlds top-winning and top-producing Kerries and read about the breeds versatility. A must have for the Kerry Blue owner, be it novice or all-time Kerry lover.

A beautiful story of a collie. The pictures were so inviting that you felt you were on the other side of the camera and could reach out and touch Kiltie. The story line made you want to go out and buy a collie, if you didn't already have one; as I do.

If you are thinking about purchasing a new pet, you will find fun advice on how to select and care for a new kitten. Both pedigree and nonpedigree cats are featured in full color and with great creativity.

Recent breeding programs have produced new breeds like the lilac longhair. Classic longhair, Persian longhairs, Marmalades, Tortoiseshell and Tabby cats are also featured.

While this book is mostly about breeds of cats, there is some historical information to meow about. This book just "scratches" the surface. I also recommend the book called "CAT" by Juliet Clutton-Brock.

"Birman cats are said to be descended from cats that once guarded a sacred temple in Burma. They first came to Europe in 1919, when two Birman cats were given to Major Gordon Russell in France by priests he had helped escape from Tibet." pg. 22

A section on "Caring for Kittens" will be useful to show children how to brush cats to remove tangles, make sure to give cats water and not milk, how to keep a litter box clean, what toys kittens will enjoy and how to make a comfy bed for your cat.

The things I find cats love the most are toys which you can hang from a string and move across the floor so they can "hunt" the item. They also love catnip and that can be used to encourage them to use a scratching post instead of sharpening their claws on furniture. Look for a scratching post with a place to hide catnip. The ones I found attach to the wall and have a small tray in the top you can fill with catnip.

Just remember, when you buy a cat...they think they own you. They will give you tons of love if you treat them well and with respect. If you teach children to treat a kitten gently, you will be teaching them respect for all animals.

After narrowing my breed choice down to the Kuvasz, I purchased this book for more information. It's very informative and breed specific and the pictures are absolutely beautiful!

I highly recommend this book to any Kuvasz fancier and/or owner! There should be more books like it!

I own a black lab and this calendar makes me happy & think of my dog when I am away from him. Superb pictures.
