Breeds Books

I bought two copies of this calendar at different locations. The calender printed in America has much better prints. The prints are clearer and centered better. The calendar printed in Korea was inferior to the American-made. Both are distributed by Browntrout Publishers and contain basically the same photos.

I really liked this calender it had so many cute pictures i would love to have one?!!!!!

Although Dog Breeds of the World is not as widely publicized (or as expensive!) as some other breed books, it is one of the best that I have seen. It has accurate information about history, health and temperament, as well as several good pictures of each breed. Best of all, it has a display box for each breed that summarizes exercise, temperament, grooming and feeding needs, with descriptions like "delightfully docile" temperament (for the Newfoundland). The book comes in several sizes, each with the same pictures and text. Dog Breeds of the World is the smallest version, fine unless you need larger print. The Complete Encyclopedia of Pedigree Dogs is a coffee-table-size version. The Complete Dog Book includes not only the breed information and pictures found in the other two, but also some very helpful general information about nutrition, health care, training, grooming, choosing a dog, and breeding. (I would have liked a somewhat stronger statement recommending against breeding, but I admit that sometimes a low-key approach works best.) Although the book is British, and therefore uses British measurements, Stockman is good to us non-Brits and translates dog heights and weights into U.S. terminology as well. He doesn't try to include every breed around, but I found all the common U.S. breeds, as well as many that are not so familiar. All in all, this is likely to remain one of my favorite dog breed books.

During my last visit there with my two Keeshonden, I was disappointed to learn that it had been thrown away due to other customers' overuse/abuse?!

The Vet Techs also said that when they tried to reorder it, they learned that it had been discontinued. Utilizing my previous information, I tracked it down to Amazon and was delighted to be able to order it at a really good price.

This beautifully drawn and printed book now resides on my family room cocktail table to be enjoyed by all my guests.

Photos of wonderful Pugs - especially for the months of MAY and DECEMBER - but then, their my pugs - so I'm very proud!

This is a great book for a novice Lab owner, or a very experienced. It has a great section on breeding, and interesting facts about the breed itself. There are great photos and illustrations, too! A great book for any Lab owner.

I have found this book to very helpful in training my dogs. Most dog training manuals just cover the basics like sit, stay and heel. This book covers problem solving. Using Amy Ammens methods I have been able to correct bad behavior in my dogs and in turn have made their lives more fun and enjoyable. Working with the dogs is great fun and exercise for me too.

This is by far the best turkey hunting book I have read. It is very well set up and reads very well. It's broken up into sections that explain every aspect of the hunt, including tips for bow hunting, eastern turkey, Rio's and all others. It also explains how to roost a bird and pre season locating, a very important part of getting your spring or fall bird. There is an All-star line up of pros that give input and share the knowladge that they have built over years of being in the woods . This is a book that you could read every spring and still gather usefull info. So pick up a copy and enjoy, happy hunting

This book is one of the most comprehensive books I have read encompassing how the Dog's Mind works. It is extremely well written and leaves you with a greater understanding on how to interpret your dog's body language. As a student of Canine Behaviour, I have found this book an invaluable reference tool

I had just gotten a foster dog who couldn't handle being home alone, so when I arrived from work, I found my other dogs, formely fine,and Lilo, howling. I'm sure my neighbors loved that, and it broke my heart because the little collie mix was really lonely and out of his head. So I tried what Abrantes recommended, and he immediatley improved.(I was skeptical and really hated having to remove him from my bed at night). Step by step, working on his program, I now have a foster who is be more independent and self-sufficient, and can handle being,....home alone, while I'm away 6 hours a day at work. thank you Abrantes!
