I bought this book about a year ago, and I keep going back and reading it. I bought it first because my family were looking to adopt another dog, as our dear Biscuit had died. Choosing The Right Dog For You lists over 200 canine breeds, the top health concerns for each and every breed listed, the potential problems for each breed, coat informaiton, and a TON of other helpful topics. I have once again come back to this wonderful book, this time to use as a reference for my next FFA project. I would definately recomend this book!!!!

I consider this to be the best book of its type. Although it was written in 1980, and obviously much of the information is out of date, it is a concise and thoroughly researched guide. The strength of this book is that the author omits biased information and, thankfully, doesn't try to steer the reader with an emotional spin.

We've researched at least six different books addressing the selection of the proper breed of dog, given our particular circumstances. Mr. Howe's book is by far the best. Our copy is worn and tattered after use by different members of our family and some of our friends.

I am just starting out in Chow Chows and am building a library. I am interested in the Smooth coat variety and this book has some helpful research material.

The author is very knowledgable and the book is a quick read, but a good reference non the less.

This is a lovely book for the young chow enthousiast. The text is kept simple, but still portrays the main facts about the breed and its history. Almost every page is decorated with sweet pictures of both roughs and smooth, blacks and reds.

This is probably the 10th year I have bought this calendar. I love the pictures of the chow chows. The spaces for the dates are big so there is lots of room to write notes and reminders. I would recommend any calendar published by browntrout.

This is a wonderful book for breed enthusiasts. Both of our Clumbers have some of these dogs in their pedigrees and it was nice to see pictures of this "older generation".

I found this is one of the best books put out on the subject of canaries. It is difficult to understand why it was taken out of print. As a Song Canary Breeder I have recomended this book to all who are thinking of breeding any Canaries.
