I love American Eskimos and he does a great job of explaining and not being as canned in his writing as some books about Eskies.
Anything on Eskies makes me happy anyway, it's a given!
Eskie books are hard to find, so I'm also hard pressed to find an Eskie book that I didn't like.

Loved the pictures and explanations of all the family members and their dogs. Very interesting book. I enjoyed finding out
about the varioues nobility and how they saw dogs, how important dogs were to some of them. Loved the beautiful pics too.

I have long been an admirer of the British Monarchy, for over. I remember skipping school to watch Princess Anne get married.
(The first time in the early 70s)
I've known they were animal lovers but this book just shows you how much they cared for their furry friends. I am a dog lover to the max, and this book was just so fascinating.

I read several other books on the breed in an effort to understand my dog, but nothing came close to explaining to me her
weird personality quirks and why she has them. Then I read THIS book and I swear the light was shining and the angels were
singing. Nina Ross and Pat Craige Trotter, from whom I actually got my dog, explain the elkhound in clear, exact detail. No
other book can explain this wonderful, ancient breed like this one does. Now that I can "speak" Elkhound, I couldn't imagine
ever having another breed!

This a wonderful book on the Scottish Terrier and is a great addition to the library of any fancier of the breed. I have
not read a better accounting of the breed's history and development and the breed's character. The pictures are some of the
best you will see in any dog book. The pictures also feature many of the late and great dogs of the past who figure so prominently
in many pedigrees of the best Scotties of today.

This volume is officially approved by the Scottish Terrier Club of America, one of the oldest breed clubs (founded 1900).
The book has a large amount of excellent color photographs throughout, as well as black and white photos of early champions.
The history of the breed is examined in depth, the breed standard, sections on champions old and modern. Bloodlines of
some of the major dogs are also examined. There is a complete chapter devoted to the professional handlers who have campaigned
the Scottish Terrier in the show ring. The book also covers choosing a pup, some breeding information, and also some other
unusual activites such as obedience (who says terriers aren't obedient! ) and there is even a wheaten scottie who has police
training mentioned in this book! Mrs. Lee previously authored a book on raising and whelping puppies that is considered
one the best books available on this subject. She has been active in this breed showing, breeding and judging in AKC conformation.
The front cover of the book is very attractive with a plaid ribbion, the offical seal of the Scottish Terrier Club of America,
and a large color photograph of Champion Blanart Bewitching. For anyone interested in the "diehard" this is THE indispensable
book both in the detail in the text and the lush photography. There is a wealth of information for both the pet owner and
the show enthusiast.

I am THRILLED to see this book back in publication!! Harrison Weir is the highly revered Father of the Cat Fancy. In the
original edition of this book he became the first person to ever develop and publish standards for the breeds. All cat associations
worldwide, and lovers of any particular breed, owe a great debt of gratitude to this man and his wonderful book. For those
of you who don't own one of the ten author's copies of the original edition of this book (sorry, had to brag), do not pass
up on the opportunity to get it in this reprint. The originals are very rare. I have bought the reprint just to have at
shows and to recommend to new exhibitors so that they understand the history of our hobby.
You don't have to show cats to appreciate this book though. It is a wonderful read for anyone who loves cats, especially those who appreciate the Victorians and their love of cats.

For a cat breeder, or those just interested in the origin of the cat breeds this is THE book to own. It marks the point in
time when cats started to move from a poorly understood, often abused animal to the family pet we know today.
Everyone who loves cats should know about this man, his work and this book.
Written in a style only the Victorian English could do so well, it is a time machine to another time, another place and another view of the world.
It's also about cats!

We've got Triever Fever, and our Yellow Lab is 3 years old now. I had to get this book because it's kind of like that license
plate frame that says "If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand". The stories are wonderfully written and we'd love to
see a "Panther II". It will pull at your heartstrings like no others can, and if you are owned by a Lab or know someone who
is, it's a great gift as well. Highly recommended!

My wife gave me this book for my birthday and I was bowled over. The title story made me laugh, cry--and that was only the
beginning. The comparison to Seabiscuit is apt. Panther is the definition of an underdog. What a great heart. The other stories,
too, were wonderful. I loved John Madson's tale about the Lab Bess, who fetched mallards between giving birth to a whole litter
of puppies. And the story of the boy who saved an old duck dog who had fallen through the ice, returning an earlier favor.
Ted Lundrigan's story "Trust in Black" was so good it made me look up his other books on Amazon. What a brilliant writer.
I don't think I've ever read a more poignant, heart-felt confession about a man's love for retrievers, or any other breeds
or individual dogs.
Buy this book for yourself or someone else. It will be one of the best presents you'll ever give or get!

The author is my great-auntie on my mother's side. She was a grand woman of her time. She was well known through the cat world.
This book was written about most of her own cats and experiences throughout her life as a cat breeder. Her husband, Dr.P.N.ramsdale,was
a well known veternarian in Long Beach, CA,also helped to write the 3 books she had published. They were fascinating people.
I sure miss them. They both tragedly passed away almost 15 years ago. Great information books...

If you are interested in cats, previously had Persians, have Persians now or are thinking about getting a Persian cat this
is the book for you.
This is the absolute best book on Persian cats out there. Unsurpassed in its wealth of information - especially about breeding and colors. Hundreds of lovely pictures (both color and black/white). Anything you want to know about Persian cats is in here.
Jeanne Ramsdale bred chinchilla Persians (also called silver Persians) under the prefix - or cattery name - 'Dearheart'. Her cats were magnificent and to this day stand out for their exceptional beauty. Just to see the photos of these cats - the book is well worth buying.
Jeanne Ramsdale's love for the Persian cat is obvious throughout - the book is well written and always interesting. She writes knowingly about all aspects of cat care and breeding.
Most of the photos are from the 1960's and 1970's - so this book is also a great historical record about the Persian cat.
The 1976 edition is recommended - it comes in a revised edition with nice sturdy binding.
Highly recommended to any cat lover !

I was rummaging through a book store on vacation and saw this one on the shelf. It looked interesting and I figured it would
at least give me something to read for a few days. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it and have now re-read
it several times.
Bottom line: This is a very good book for the more analytical student of the game. It is a great choice for the intermediate or advanced golfer looking to refine his or her swing without risking yet another swing change by going to a pro. If you have a video camera and want to look at details of your swing, this book will be a terrific support tool. What is demonstrated looks to be a so-called "modern swing" with two-plane technique as is used by the vast majority of golfers.
Best features: There are 176 photos as counted by the author and publisher. The format makes for fast reading and easy understanding yet it is not a simplistic book aimed at beginners.
All aspects of the setup and swing are described in text and demonstrated in photographs. In areas where there is room for misinterpretation or where errors are common, typical mistakes in setup or swing are also clearly demonstrated. While you will get maximum benefit from the book if you do have a video camera, the latter is not necessary to get plenty of help and ideas from the material.
If you are analytical and have played the game for awhile, you might want to give Michael Breed's book a try. My only reservation for beginners is that I think the material might overwhelm the novice though the photos would be of benefit. Best wishes.
