Inspiring

The ability of the Marine Corps to create great leaders is unparalleled. Leatherneck legends sits you down to talk with four of those great leaders about their experiences spanning the 20th century, from the first world war to Vietnam. These are authentic tough gents able to inspire men to great courage by personal example. They epitomize all that is good in the warrior ethos and their example will inspire you as well. Political views of the wars takes a backseat to the admiration these men garner; and to the sort of gents who have gone before them. It is a thrilling account not just of these gentlemen-warriors but of the Marine Corps that they represent as well. You will not want to put it down.

The Unbearable Cuteness of Lab Puppies

This book should really be called "The Unbearable Cuteness of Lab Puppies." If you buy it, be prepared to hear the patter of little paws on your linoleum floor...because you won't be able to resist the next step: Going out and getting the real thing. The pictures of the puppies frolicking with the kids makes me wonder whether spring is far away. I loved this book!

The Next Best Thing to Getting a Real Lab Puppy

Review Date: 2002-11-15
This book really is the next best thing to getting a new Lab puppy, and best of all, it doesn't need to be house broken. Anyone who loves puppies will be charmed and beguiled by this word and picture chronicle of the first months in the life of Labrador retriever puppies. You don't have to be a duck hunter to enjoy it, either, as most of the photos capture Labs doing everyday things like playing with their littermates, chewing whatever they can get their sharp little teeth into, harrassing the family cat, and getting into one kind of mischief or another.

I bought this book to learn more about the Bichon breed. I have a five year old rescued Bichon male. The book describes his characteristics perfectly. It offers some training methods and things to know before you make a very long committment to these little dogs. They are very long lived.

Pro: Easy to read, good pictures, on target in describing the breed
Con: None

Gorgeous book for a gorgeous breed

If you are a totally smitten Bichon Frise owner, as I am, you will have to add this book to your collection. I own many many volumes but this portrays the breed in all its glory. The cover is your first clue to the beauty of the publication. I particularly like the personal short tales that are set in pastel color insets. And I find the photo section on grooming exceptionally helpful--you will definitely need these close-ups if you dare to try your hand at this art. Chapter 2 reminds you that this loving breed in NOT FOR EVERYONE; they should not be left alone for long periods of time.

Eight chapters and 128 pages of great information, super binding, heavy shiny paper, with sharp color photos; this book succinctly covers all you need to know.

We received this calendar as a gift from my in-laws. The photos are mostly gorgeous, with good color and detail on nice, heavy stock. If you love these cats, you'll enjoy this calendar. It's a little late for the current year, of course, but let's hope the 2009 edition is as good.

This was a gift for my son and his wife who have two maine coon cats. They loved the calendar and all the really beautiful pictures. They had fun looking for pictures that looked like their cats. This calendar is an excellent choice for maine coon cat lovers.

Excellent maltese educator
Helpful Votes: 29 out of 32 total.
Review Date: 2001-03-18
This is the best book on the maltese breed I have read. It gives real, practical, and detailed advice and tips on grooming (the most important question for this breed!) as well as the basics for showing, sports activities and the breed itself. It is wonderful in its review of the top maltese since the 50's - it will give you great information on the top pedigree lines and their history. This author was the top breeder/handler of maltese, with impecable creditials and integrity to match no other in the show dog world. Owners and handlers are very lucky to now have Ms. Abbott in the ring as a judge. If you are serious about this breed, this book is invaluable.

GREAT Book! Highly Recommended
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.

If you are interested in the breed this is a terrific resource. Pictures are mainly of standard manchesters. Articles are very well done and include history, breed standards with illustrations [both UK and AKC], grooming and health care, training, etc. Very exhaustive information on a breed without a lot of published works.

Also, this is a fairly recent book, numerous references to to events that occur in 2000 and 2001. Very balanced with AKC differences well documented.

I have read so much on this breed, but this book puts everything in one place. VERY Highly recommended

I took a risk and purchased this book on the Manchester terrier even though I could not take a look inside the cover, table of contents, etc. Looking through the book after I received it I realized immediately that I had taken a good risk. This book is EXCELLENT and has plenty of pictures. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is considering a Manchester terrier for a pet, or who already has this wonderful breed of dog.

The photos in this book are so sweet! Any cat care taker will recognize the prose that accompanies each photo as true to form. "Bad Cat" has nothing on this book for sophistication and true cat thoughts. I'd highly recommend it for any serious cat lover.

Me-WOW!

Our family are generally more dog lovers than cat guys, but after listening in on the thoughts of these oh-so expressive kitties, we might switch.

Susi Oberhelman's photos are priceless, and Kelly Durcan must have a house filled with cats, to know what these furry guys are thinking - it's like he has a cat brain! You can almost hear the Brooklyn accents on some of the tough-guy cats, from their faces and understated witty remarks. I found myself reading the captions aloud, in my best feline gangster-ese - "I want what's mine, I sez....."

I recommend this to cat and dog lovers alike, provided you enjoy humor! Oh, and someone should open a can of tuna for the author!

I have bought many books about Schnauzers and this one is the best. It gives you information on everything you are looking to read about. Information about training, grooming, health care, the show dog world, and the list goes on. This is a must have book for any Miniature Schnauzer owner, or someone who wishes to buy into the breed.

you'll ever need! This book has more information in it's 224 pages than any of the others I have regarding Mini Schnauzers. The pictures are clear and detailed. It explains grooming, training (as a pet or show), breeding, health and dental issues, and much, much more. Buy this book and you won't regret it.

Although the book is paperback, the quality of the images are very good; the pictures are vibrant and colorful. Very nice to own or give as a gift!
