This is a Great Book with Great Pictures. It is easy to read and understand. However.. Beware..The other book that Amazon offers, Exotic Shorthair Cat (Popular Cat Library) by Karen Cummings [Library Binding]is the same as this one, the cover is just different. This book is paperback and the other is hardback and the 2 covers have different pictures. I know because I ordered both thinking I was getting 2 different books. Don't make the same mistake I did. It's just a personal preference, paperback or hardback??

This is a great book for cat fans, but especially for those who own or enjoy Exotic Shorthairs. The photos are fantastic and are incredibly glossy and colorful. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the printing and the stock that this book is printed on- it made my a great Christmas present for my wife. The reading was entertaining and factual, but the real selling point for this book is the photos.

SPOTlight on Ocicats

Review Date: 2001-06-09
Bill McKee one of the founding breeders of Ocicats, owned the first Ocicat grand in CFA GRC Dalai's Golden Cavalier of Ociville, writes from personal experience with this "wild cat" look alike.

Ocicat owners from all over the world contributed pictures which give the reader a fantastic insite into the numerous colors in this fantastic breed.

The history of the Ocicat and it beginnings in the cat show world is well documented by Bill McKee as he was intrumental in getting the Ocicat accepted by CFA which was the first cat organization to fully recognize the Ocicat for Championship status.

It was indeed a pleasure to Ocicat breeders everywhere to see Bill McKee's name on the first published Ocicat book.

A great -- and belated -- addition to a helpful and informative series of breed books.

Bill McKee is an inspired author choice, bringing new insight into how the Oci was 'created' just three decades ago. Modest as he is, it's fascinating to think that the farsighted breeding choices he (and a handful of others) made, not so very long ago, have defined one of the most popular and distinctive breeds today. Thanks for bringing him back!

I know this book is no longer published but I have to write on it. This is a wonderful book! Every character has a secret that entwines with one large secret. And as the book procedes a little bit of the secret it dolled out. I found the book fascinating and could not put it down until I read every last word. Some of the characters are not as bad as the appear and some are worse. It is for you to jusge.

You can't go wrong with any book by Georgina Gentry! I have been tracking down and reading her out of print books ever since I read her first book! You can usually find her out of print books in used book stores or Amazon.com's auction resources, etc. "Half-breed's Bride" grabs you in the first chapter and never lets you go! It is more intense than most of Georgina Gentry's books (but, not quite as much historical background as usual). Everyone has secrets in this book! The reader finds out the secrets little by little. All of the characters in this story are extremely strong and unforgettable. The story is exciting and very lustful as it takes you through a journey of human character (black, white, and grey).

An inspiring picture book on rare sheep
Helpful Votes: 17 out of 17 total.
Review Date: 2000-12-27
Many knitted and woven garments and a woven carpet as well, all made out of wool. Accompanied by pictures of many of the endangered sheep breeds. Its mainly a picturebook, no instructions on how to do the projects. It begins with an explanation on rare breeds, then comes a short chapter on the history of spinning and some comments about the spinning of the yarn and the making of the finished piece. In the end you can find an introduction into spinning (combing, carding, handspindles, washing of yarn). 80 pictured pieces and many sheep.

This book highlights rare breeds of sheep and gives all kinds of fascinating information about them: where the breed is to be found, how it came about, the type of wool the sheep grow, and the status of the breed in terms of rarity.

If that isn't interesting enough, there are pictures of projects done in various wools like Jacob, California Mutant Red, Pitt Island, Leicester Longwool and Cotswold. The projects range from knitted lace to woven rugs. If you are a handspinner, weaver or knitter who likes fine wools, this is a very interesting little book. I really enjoyed it.

If you show dogs or want to own a dog, don't be mistaken that nobody likes this book, even though the price is under ten cents! It is worth a lot more. Great show photos and photos, info on where it's suited, personality, appearance, health problems, care, puppies, comments, and reccomendations for the breed section, and a section on selecting a dog, care, and a glossary make this book right up there! I like the pictures and it is very organized, although it only has AKC recognized breeds. It is out of date, to-the Border Collie, Australain Shepherd, American Eskimo and Coonhounds are all the UKC breeds! It is great when choosing the right dog.

I live on the acreage next to one of the authors. Our hearts were melted by this wonderful breed of dogs. We now have a rescued Harrier of our own or perhaps it would be more accurate to say she has us. I was very impressed with how straight forward and factual this book was written. If you want to know about Harrier's....history, breeding, showing, care and loving this is a great book for you.

Harriers are a rare breed in the US, this book gives you lots of information about the dogs and contains some beautiful photographs! It covers what the breed's history is, what they are like to live with, how to care for them, and demonstrates the dog's abilities with information about harrier packs, agility, obedience, and therapy work. There is also information about the harrier's health concerns and what to look for when you purchase a harrier puppy. If you are thinking about a harrier, you NEED this book!

Words cannot explain how great this book is. It goes back and tells you about the great Mastiffs of the past, how they were bred, and how modern Mastiffs came to be. The photos alone are a marvel. This is a treasure that never should have been put out of print. It is the kind of book that Mastiff lovers and breeders will be reading forever.

Similar-sounding books usually have large-size formats and coffee table-like hardcover weight: the joy of Horse Breeds of North America is that it offers up an affordable, easy 96-page photo display in pocket size lending to toting. This means you can take it along on a car ride, trip, or anyplace else a horse might show up. Quick sidebars provide height, description, history, and suitability for potential owners.
