Breeds Books

Althought this is a rare breed, I was so glad to see an eminent expert on Dandies as the author. The information on the breed could not have been more complete, addressing the history in detail, with excellent annotations supplementing the standard, personal stories and details on grooming and showing. I was also impressed on the detail of the grooming techniques provided. I have a number of other books previously written on Dandies, but consider this to be far and above the best them.

This book is exccellent. It gives very detailed information about the breed. I recommend anyone who thinks they are interested in this perticular breed to read this book and you will have a very good understanding of the breed. For those who are interested in showing this breed this book gives excellent recommendations and suggestions on how to groom for the show ring and the pet. EXCELLENT EXCELLENT BOOK

This is a long overdue book for folks seeking information about the intriguing Dandie Dinmont Terrier. It is informative of every aspect of the Dandie including the history and description of the standard with color pictures throughout. One chapter is devoted to raising a puppy. Several chapters include geographical, grooming and training needs of this terrier. Finally there is substantial material on health maintenance and potential medical problems.

I had heard this book was the best one on the Dandie Dinmont Terriers. It is an extraordinary book, and made well. The pictures are absolutely beautiful and highly glossy, with thick paper. There is a lot of interesting information on these wonderful dogs. I highly recommend this book to anyone who owns one of these dogs, or who happens to want one. Well written and worthy to be included in the best of collections.

The author has captured the lure and lore of an era never to exist again with a vivid narrative of a fascinating man and a mesmerizing account of the Great Danes! The unique persona of the book and the saga of an amazing life is beautifully written!

Expertly written by Robert Heal, an experienced dog judge who specializes in Great Danes, The Danes Of Send Manor: The Life, Loves And Mystery Of Gordon Stewart is the informative and engaging biography of the great and famous entrepreneur George Stewart who made his multimillion fortune developing airplanes and automobiles. The Danes Of Send Manor also focuses on the more than 500 Great Danes that Stewart kept about his manor. Recommended reading as an engaging and candid study of a consummate businessman who became an intimate friend with the King of England as well as his important contributions to the world of Great Dane breeding, The Danes Of Send Manor would make an excellent addition to any community library biography collection and is a "must read" for Great Dane fanciers.

I had been looking for a book like this for years, and this one didn't disappoint. The applique's are just right for the work I want to do. The drawings are fine enough to recognize each breed and simple enough to make them very adaptable to any project. And they's not "cutsie" so you can use them for a large range of projects. The author included great product suggestions and directions. It would be difficult to imagine how Ashton could have done a better job. I also have her book on large dog appliques which is just as great. This author just leaves us wanting more. Got horses? Woodland Critters? If you do applique and want design help, if the topic is one Ashton covers, get the book.

DARLING LITTLE DOGS contains 35 small dog breeds for you to appliqué. Each of Ms. Ashton's books is autographed if they are purchase through her website - a special touch that you don't often get unless you can attend a book signing. Since I don't get to many book signings, this makes the book extra special to me. The 52 page book contains so much information to help you in your appliqué/quilting process; it is hard to know where to begin but since they are widely available through most quilt stores you won't have a problem obtaining a copy.

The inside front, inside back and the back cover show three quilts that could be made with these appliqués. Then there is a table of contents so you don't have to hunt through the book to find your "little pal". (Check the website for a full listing of the breeds included in this book). The next two pages contain suggestions on how to embroider the eyes which I was glad to see as animals eyes can say so much (if you are a pet lover, you know what I mean) and other details about the appliqué process. Lots of colorful graphics are shown as well which give you more ideas on how to put the appliqués together.

The appliqués are full-sized so you don't need to run out to the copy shop to start your project. Besides, using these patterns for appliqué, I can see more uses such as painting or stain glass templates. There are eight projects ranging from wall hangings to lap quilts to bed sized quilts and, of course, no bed is complete without a matching pillow.

Instructions on how to transfer the patterns, do needleturn appliqué and Prairie Points to add a cute finish to your project are also included in this very informative and all-inclusive book. This book relates the history of bull terriers and it's grouth in life in society.But it also focus very important items about the standard the we cannot find on any other book.

Excellent choice! The first few pages tell you about dogs in general, following this with one page of information on each breed (seperating small, medium & large breeds). Then the main thrust of the book is on dog care, which is very helpful, such as what to look for before buying your dog (ex. examining ears, eyes, mouth, body, posture), the vaccination schedule, emergency treatment (choking, CPR, shock), nutrition, toys, collars/leashes, grooming/bathing (which brushes/combs), fleas/ticks, worms (chart to compare them & symptoms), diseases. I ordered a few books on dogs & this is my favorite.

What a wonderful time the author must have had preparing this amazing book. WELL WORTH THE PRICE!

I bought this for my sister in law who does K9 rescue. I was sad when I was initially told the book would not be in by Christmas and sooooo delighted when it came in a week before the holiday! My sister in law cried as she went through the book and said this one has been on her book list for a while.

This book is a beautiful,thought provoking tribute to the wonderful service provided by the trained search and rescue operations carried out by these dogs, with particular emphasis on 9/11.Over 100 life sized German Shepherd forms were distributed to artists to paint in any fashion they wished to celebrate these animals.The results were exceptional.Each piece of art was given a name ,displayed and later auctioned off with the proceeds used for the future benefit of these dogs.Each piece of art is explained by the artist and there is also a short note about the artist.Overall this is a well put together coffee table sized book and should be appreciated by everyone.

This book is truly a comprehensive guide to owning this wonderful breed. There's a lot a potential owner need to know about this breed before taking ownership of one and this book tackles that issue plus extensively covers feeding, training, and caring for your Dogo.

This book was so helpful in understanding the history,characteristics and special qualities of this breed. The pictures are great and the section on puppy care, training, healthcare and everyday care were especially helpful. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a first time Dogo owner as we were!

These dogs' athletic endeavors, their incredible endurance, and their very special bonding with their owners are all showcased in this fantastically visual and highly recommended read for dog lovers everywhere.

Being partial to sled dogs myself (I am owned by two) I very much enjoyed leafing through this book. I actually bought it as a gift for my brother who adopted an Alaskan Husky last year, but I may have to buy another copy for myself!

Good portraits of the various types of dogs which nowadays run this intense and challenging race. The photos and text give you a glimpse into the world of sled dog racing, yet the book also shows the "gentler" and "calmer" side of these magnificent animals (lets enjoy the quiet times, as we know, calm or slow is not really an important part of their vocabulary!).

If you love sled dogs, get this book, it is worth it.
