Jeff Crosby and Shelley Ann Jackson have created an informative and beautiful introduction to dog breeds of the world. The book is filled with interesting facts about many of the popular breeds and great illustrations of the dog breeds. I would recommend this book to parents with kids that are interested in dogs or to adults that are interested in the history of dog breeds around the world.

Living with Small and Toy Dogs, has the answer to almost any "small dog" problem. It makes people look at every thing in the dogs point of view. This book has every thing from what kind of equipment to use, to dog obedience, to formal training. It also has many solutions to the dogs aggression toward people, children, animals, and other dogs. All of the examples of things that people should do while training their small dog, helped me understand why I need to do different things while training. The examples also proved they were necessary. This is the best "small dog" book.

We recently adopted a small terrier mix from the local shelter. Since she's our first dog, we have been consulting many books for advice. This one has proven to be one of the very best we've found. Jester's style is personal and frank. She covers all sorts of issues and I have found her insights into the "whys" of dog behavior very helpful. I was especially grateful for her listing of the different stages a dog goes through after it joins a new family. They were right on target!

It was so nice to actually find written work on the Morab breed. The author has done his homework, and the history of the breed is well-researched. I enjoyed reading it, and feel even more proud to be a Morab owner. There are pedigrees, black and white and color photos, plus information on some Morab breeders and their breeding programs. Club information is also included in source information. Recommended to the Morab owner, or anyone just curious about the breed!

Morab Moments was a tough book to write but it captured everything people were asking me as questions and then some. I ship within 2 days of receiving the Amazon notice of sale.

This is a remarkably thorough account of the Morab horse.

This is the seminal book of the Morab breed of horse, including its origins, history of the various registries, current breeding farms, and stories by individuals about their beloved Morabs. There is specific information about the organization of the International Morab Breeders Association, as well as a glossary of terms and other technical aspects of horsemanship of interest to all horse people.

I love this book! For a small and quite inexpensive book, it has lots of expert advise to help make up your mind whether to get a dog or not. Packed with great color photos and illustrations, it's also well organized with detailed checklists and charts on what dogs are like, what to expect, FAQs, etc., and includes a test to determine whether you are a dog person. Plus it includes a brief chart of recommended breeds and which dogs are best for families, singles and seniors.

All in all, a very handy and informative guide for someone planning to buy or adopt a dog. Best of all, it's cheap!

One of the very few books about a very facinating breed, and also one of the best every written. Although some information are a bit out dated, but it is still very informative and detailed. This book begins with the history and development of the breed, and most improtant of them all what to expect from this breed. I Bought my first bullie after reading this book, and still referring back to it time after time. A must for new Bull Terrier owners or anyone interested in them!

The best corgi book out there
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 2001-10-30
This is the most complete corgi book I've found. There's so much information I can't begin to do it justice - from history of the breed to prime examples of corgis, this book blows away every other dog book I've ever had my hands on (for any breed). Though this book might cost more, it is well worth it - I bought 5 or 6 Corgi books and this one makes the rest look like cheap info pamphlets.

Definitive Corgi Book

Review Date: 2002-02-11
There are a number of "breed" books out there on the Pembroke, but this is the official one. Mostly geared toward people who are interested in conformation showing and breeding, it is the only book with extensive photographs and discussions of bloodlines which have influenced the breed. Like all books by breed fanciers, it does not say anything critical about anything. If you want to find out about problems in the breed or in certain lines, you won't find it here (for example, temperament, genetic health, over-popularity). It does have short but informative sections on other topics besides showing and breeding. It is an excellent example of its kind. Certainly all Pembroke breeders should have a copy (but they probably do).

The new complete pembroke welsh corgi offers quite a bit of information for fanciers of the breed. The history of the breed is well documented and includes rare photos of champion corgis. The text is written so as to interest both those who breed and show corgis, as well as those who are just interested in owning one as a pet. The health care information is informative and provides pet owners with important insight into corgi care. This is definitely one of the best references for the breed that I have seen.

The authoritative standard by which all other doberman books are judged. Ms. Walker, and various contributing authors such as Peggy Adamson and Frank Grover, compiled an in depth history of the breed, along with fascinating anecdotes about top breeders and dogs. Ms. Walker has lived with and bred Dobermans for many years, and her knowlege, experience, and love of the breed shines through on every page. Even though the publishing date is 1981, the information is still current and applicable to the Doberman of today. This book should be a prominent part of any Doberman lover's library.

The very best book on the German Shorthaired Pointer

Review Date: 2002-01-07
C. Bede Maxwell wrote the best sourcebook on the German Shorthaired Pointer I have ever read. I have owned 4 German Shorthaired Pointers and am involved in GSP rescue (Mid-Atlantic German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue; ... My daughter has two GSPs, my sister has had five. Bede Maxewll's book was the first book on the breed I purchased after I bought my first GSP 30 years ago. No other book ever came close. She traced the breed back to the standards in Germany. It turned out that my first GSP was from some of those standards, both international and dual international champions. Since then, I have used the book often. I just purchased my 4th copy because it seems every time I loan it out it never comes back. It's a great source of information on German Shorthaired Pointers and a must own for anyone interested in the breed.

Lots of Practical Information

Review Date: 2002-05-09
This book tells the story of Pfaffenberger's search to develop test for puppies to determine which would ultimately become good guide dogs. There are pearls of wisdom throughout this book. I have not seen info on issues he brings up before. Understand this is a story of what he went through but he discusses the science of dog behavior at that time and where his work went wrong and where it went right. Did you know it is best that hunting breeds be allowed to hunt even if they will do work where , if they hunt, it would be a detriment to the work. Allowing the hunting dogs to hunt for a season increased their success rate in these breeds. One might think this was counter-intuitive, but Pfaffenberger provides info to the contrary. I recommend this book for people who want even more detailed info on puppy tests and producing great working dogs.

This is not your ordinary pet-store-learn-about-the-breed book. It is the best book on the market about Pomeranians and I have read lots of them. It has complete information about the history of the breed, care of the breed, care of puppies, pregnant Poms, and how to keep your Pom groomed, and clean. It is NOT a generic book, but has very specific information about Pomeranians. If you buy only one book, this is the one to get.

The New Pomeranian has an extensive chapter on the genetics of the Pomeranian breed. More importantly, it has examples of color genetics that insure that breeders will be able to "plan" their litters based on the colors they wish to do selective breeding for. I have not found a better book on dog color breeding or Pomeranians in general. The conformation drawings are sure to help novice and experience breeder alike rate their puppies for the show ring.
