Wow. Fat Daisy hits the nail on the head for any gal or guy who's ever dieted. As a chronic waist-watcher, I really identify with Daisy's struggles. I think she's got the right idea that we should all strive for self-acceptance. Writers Bev West & Jason Bergund are masterful in coupling beautiful photographs with thoughtful and inspirational captions. This book is damn hard to set down.

I bought this book on a whim as I already have plenty of other similar books but to my delight I found it to be funny and insightful as well as interesting and informative. The authors obviously have in-depth knowledge of this lovely breed and will give the reader many chuckles as they comment on the Frenchies quirks and peculiarities. However, it is also an excellent guide for the prospective owner giving good, sound information (and masses of photos)on how to look after a special little dog.

Great book!

This is an excellent resource for anyone considering a french bulldog. (I also recommend it if you just like lots of cute puppy pictures!) It's packed full of everything you need to know about your frenchie, with special attention paid to health and training issues. Please make this book your first step in acquiring a french bulldog. Proper research is key to finding the right dog for you!

Fantastic! I pick up a book and scan through it to see if I want to "get involved". Not only did I purchase and read this one, but I bought the next two in the series and read them also. Cyn Mobley writes mysteries in refreshingly entertaining style while departing deep affection and knowledge of the retired greyhound. In Greyhound Dancing, pack behavior and territorial lines are explored through the eyes of greyhounds. Tweeter, the grey queen, is introduced to a new pack and must establish herself and enforce rules of behavior. It is a greyt read. I am sure you will enjoy this book completely.

This is truly the best book about Brussels Griffons. There is so much information about raising your puppy, showing, and past champions. The author is a very experienced Griff breeder. It also has the best photos of Griffs. If you have or want a Brussels Griffon, this is the book for you.

This is the most comprehensive book on the griffon bruxellois since Marjorie Cousen's legendary book from 1960. Cousens'book did not include many photos, and here lies one of the strengths in Raynham's book, it is packed with lots of beautiful color pictures of som very nice specimens. Being such a difficult breed to succeed with, it's imperative to show the proper breed type in the examples presented, in this field many books on griffons are simply not good enough. So; to get a good impression what a good griffon should look like, buy THIS book and have a look at the photos of Ch. Marquant Miss Scarlet, Ch. Hunters Melody of Gregtoi and Ch. Dorelove Jimmy Mac who graces the cover, just to mention a few!

One-of-a-kind 'inside' story of a breed
Helpful Votes: 12 out of 12 total.
Review Date: 1998-09-01
I've seen breed books before. Boring club lists. Here is a change of pace. This is riveting reading for anyone. A rare look inside a breed. (The only look? Any other insider books like this?) If you wonder why a dog book needs to have a lawyer look it over, you'll know why after reading this. Candid reports on the serious troubles a dog breed club faced with its dog going downhill fast. Starts with how the dog was created; its highpoints; its intro to the US; then outlines how the trouble started. A great distillation of the purpose and spirit behind those who work for dogs and why. A great primer! Health, stability and function: these basics were all in trouble. But the club found a way out. A desparate measure. ---The one fault with the book is its one-sided nature. But it is quite clear that it is a personal story. My own subsequent investigation showed that the situation and rescue method was perhaps arguable. But that's second-guessing. This book puts you on the frontline of an emergency. You get the feel that if someone else wanted to stake their career and reputation on the quality of a breed, they could have. But you won't find many who will make such a stand. The characters in this book do. Many people quit the club. But it looks like the dogs are far better off. Quite a tale! As good as any potboiler!

This book is a labor of love for Versatile Hunting Dogs. It includes the detail progress of how to change a breed of dog to a better ( some would say the best ) versatile foot hunters companion dog. The detail on the history, breeding, and testing of a hunting dog is brought together with dog info on a current breeding/program in a special insiders view.
This is a single source point of reference for Versatile Dogs.
A very interestingly presented lesson in dog breeding.

This book is more than an excellent, well researched, history of the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. It is about the future of all breeds. That future is in the hands of people. Some individuals use a breed for their own ends. Others cooperate together for a common goal. This book is about people cooperating together to develop the Griffon Gundog Supreme. The history of the Griffon and the methods used by the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Club of America to improve and preserve this breed can apply to any breed.

I have read this book many times as it is a book you can read in one sitting which makes it even better.

If you have an Weimaraner puppy or are thinking of buying one, my suggestion is to be sure and read this very helpful guide on Weimaraner Ownership. "The Guide to Owning a Weimaraner", written by Anna Katherine Nicholas, is an absolute MUST-HAVE for anyone who, like myself, is the proud owner of a beautiful Weimaraner.

I bought this book right before I started to research getting my second Wiemaraner pup. I had made a few mistakes with my first one, especially regarding the training aspect of puppy ownership. I love both of my beautiful dogs equally, however the pup that I trained (so easily) after reading this helpful guide made training a dog enjoyable.

This book will start with the very basics and assume you know nothing. I found that to be very helpful since there is always something helpful that you can learn, even long after years of owning a dog. You'll begin with how to select the best possible puppy from a breeder or pet store. She'll discuss everything from training issues at different stages of their development to common veterinary issues associated with Weimaraner's. It's one of those few books in life that seem to have answers to all of our questions. The photograhs are wonderful as well!

I've raised several different breeds of dogs in my life. I've loved each and every dog from every breed in very special ways. HOWEVER, the joy of owning a Weimaraner, as you well know or WILL know, brings with it experiences that you will cherish for the rest of your life.

It's a great read with a fantastic index for finding specific answers to most every question you might have. Whether it's feeding, breeding, training, exercise or grooming-you'll find it all in this handy guide to owning a Weimaraner.

Happy Reading to ALL!

I read this book from cover to cover. I loved the way it was written. I enjoyed Kerrin and Dale's personal stories as well as all the great tips they provide. I've been taking pictures of my pets for many years with my Pentax K1000. While I was reading this book I noticed that my pictures had dramatically improved because I was putting in more time planning the pictures before I took them. I'm sure that now that I've completed reading the book (some parts several times!) I'll be capable of producing consistently good pictures of my pets and my friends pets.

What a joy to read! I couldn't put it down until I had completed it! This is the best money I've spent in a long time!

You don't need to be a "pro" photographer to take great pictures of your dog. This book will show you that, with the camera you already own, you can really capture the essence of your four-legged friend. If you don't have a camera yet, buy this book first!! It has wonderful and clear tips on what to look for in a camera.

Step-by-step, you will learn that planning is the key to great dog photography. You will learn things like head portraits, how to choose a great location, as well as how to make beautiful action shots. There are stunning pictures in this book that will inspire the photo artist in you.

I wish that I had this book years ago, when my first dog was still alive. Pictures like these would have brought me joy long after her passing. On the other hand, I'll be ready for the next puppy!

Whether your dog is noble, courageous, dignified, tender, or just a clown, the techniques in this book will help you capture these qualities on camera, and will provide you with additional and poignant memories of your best pal for years to come.

Every breed that I know is there, and there are a lot of dogs there that I didn't know existed. And the two pictures of the AMERICAN COCKER SPANIELS are great!!! I love the pictures, I think they are one of the best representatives of the breed. Even the very rare ones, even though the info is short, it still gives you an ides of what the dog is like. And the introduction is VERY helpful!!! GREAT FOR NEW DOG OWNERS, DOG LOVERS, DOG FANS, AND EVEN THOSE THAT JUST LIKES TO LOOK AT THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF DOG!!! My friends and I LOVE it!

This is a really beautiful book, I bought it for my husband as a Valentine's day gift. It's light reading, just stories by hunters and a poem or two. The photographs are excellent, some will just make you chuckle out loud and others are simply beautiful. If you love a hunter, who loves his dog, this is a great gift. My husband enjoyed it immensely.

My girlfriend and I purcahed a chocolate lab in May of 2000. This was my first dog. We searched long and hard and did a lot of research on how to choose the right pup... and we did. I had all intentions of training our new pup to be a champion hunter. I purchased many trainging items and spent many hours to make sure Bailey was going to be ready for the fall pheasant season. As the season grew closer so did the love for my new best friend. One of my co-workers at the time who also has a hunting a dog (a Llewyen Setter)gave me his copy of "Just Dogs" to read while I was away on buisness. As I strated to read the book, I couldn't put it down. After returning home, I ordered my own copy of it. It is probably one of the best bird dog books I have ever read. The more that I read the book the closer I feel to Bailey. He became my best friend the family pet and also a very good hunter. Through out the season Bailey and I were able to bag five birds (with the help of Sadie)which his first two I had mounted as a found reminder of a great day of hunting. The season has past I am sitting at home with about four feet of snow outside with my boy at my side and the MY copy of "Just Dogs" on my desk. When I get that itch and begin to think about the season to come, I begin to read the book all over again. I have probably ready the book cover to cover about five times since October of 2000. Every time I read the poems, I end up typing one of them up and framing it with a picture of my chocolate hunting partner. I recently purchased a copy of the book for my brother as a birthday present. My brother does not hunt but has two black labs, Coal and Chole, who mean the world to him. After reading "Just Dogs" he says that the book makes him feel even closer to his labs and makes him appreciate the friendship, loyalty and love that only a dog can bring. He thanks me all the time for the book and I have Gary to thank for lending me his copy along with a pheasant season that I will probably never forget. "Just Dogs" is worth every penny and more!!! You do not need to be a hunter to appreciate this book, you must possess a true love for just dogs.
