This is an excellent resource for the miniature horse for both the experienced horeman and the owner new to miniatures. Miniatures do present some veterinary issues unique to the breed and this book addresses them thoroughly and well. Information is clear and easy to understand and the drawings and pictures are very helpful. The breeding section is filled with helpful information for the mini mare owner who may be considering breeding and should be read before breeding your mare.

Maintaining good equine health, and prompt diagnosis and treatment of illness or injury are Number One concerns for any horse owner. In the case of Miniatures, having the right information at your fingertips can often make the difference between having a positive result or a tragic one. This veterinary guide addresses the special medical concerns of the Miniature Horse, as they pertain to small size and the attendant unique physiological and metabolic demands.

Dr. Rebecca Frankeny approaches Miniature Horses from both a veterinary standpoint and that of an owner, and her fondness and appreciation for the breed gives her advice a nice personal touch. Dr. Frankeny holds the position of surgeon at Comstock Large Animal Hospital in Reno, Nevada, and also teaches equine medicine to pre-veterinary students and animal science majors.

This guide is organized by systems: Musculoskeletal (in-depth discussion of feet and legs), Respiratory, Teeth and Jaws, Liver (including hyperlipemia and hepatic lipidosis), Gastrointestinal (colic including causes, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and when to call a veterinarian), Endocrine (diseases as they relate to treatment in Miniatures), and Reproduction (extensive information on special needs of Miniature mares). A brief, but informative chapter on dwarfism outlines what it is, how and why it appears, and how to care for dwarf Miniatures.

Contributing author Stephen Duren, Ph.D. discusses nutrition in Miniatures, with special emphasis on balanced nutrients in feed, and nutritional needs of various stages in the Miniature's life. He also discusses feeding the overweight or underweight horse, needs of older horses, stallions, broodmares, growing horses, and performance horses. This information is of great value to any owner, new or seasoned.

Several appendices enhance the text: Normal Physiological Parameters and a list of Poisonous Plants are good information to have. A chart of Clinical Signs of Disease is one of the outstanding features in this book-a quick look-up for a symptom has the corresponding page number next to it. The final appendix is a list of resources for Miniature Horses; the only disadvantage to such information is that as the book ages, so does the contact information.

This book is well-written and understandable, for both laypersons with no equine experience, and established owners. The author is careful to explain new words and, in many cases, veterinary terms are in boldface type with extended explanation in the glossary. The text is nicely enhanced with color photos and good diagrams. A comprehensive index rounds out this excellent book, which should be part of any Miniature Horse owner's reference bookshelf.

One of the most chronicled phenomenon of the American west is the saga of range wars between cattlemen and sheep herders. I have a suspicion there is some exaggeration on how widespread and serious the problem was, but it certainly is great material for a novel - especially a Christian one. The role of Jesus as the master shepherd (the word pastor means shepherd) allows the parable to be woven seamlessly into the fabric of an American western novel. This story is action packed with events happening at almost dizzying speed sometimes and contains lots of plotting and intrigue among the various bad guys. Terry is a master story teller. This book is another winner, though I enjoyed the first two books in the series a little more.

Jay Mendelson's father died and the only way Jay and his mother can keep their ranch is to switch from raising cattle to herding sheep. Jay isn't happy with the change at first, but to his surprise he finds he doesn't mind the wooly creatures at all. But this is cattle country and the local ranchers don't want sheep for neighbors. Led by Blake Johnson, who practically runs the town and surrounding country, the ranchers are determined to get rid of the hated sheep. They don't have anything against Jay, but if he gets in the way,it's his tough luck.

Blake sends Rafe Silbee, a man who served with him in the war, and Rafe's hired guns to attack Jay. They even shoot his dog, which was a mistake. The ranchers, who don't mind if a few sheep get killed but it's going too far to shoot a man's dog. Besides, Jay and his mother are well liked in town. Instead of being frightened by the attack, Jay is even more determined to hang on to what is his.

Carrie Sue, Blake's daughter loves Jay Mendelson and she isn't afraid of her father or Rafe Silbee and his hired killers. The war heats up and Jay is outnumbered as Rafe calls in reinforcements, but with God's help and the love of a good woman, he doesn't stand alone.

I grew up reading Luke Short, Max Brand, Zane Grey, and B.M. Bower. Terry Burns is right at home with those great western writers. You can't miss with this one.

This book is a very accurate history of the Brahman cattle in the US. I would recomment it to anyone who would like to know more about Brahman cattle and the history of it's association.

This is a great little starter book for someone who is interested in ball pythons. For those more into the hobby, this is an excerpt from Kevin's larger book, The Complete Ball Python. Serious hobbyists should forget this version and buy the Complete Ball Python instead.

MOST BOOKS THAT I FOUND THOUGHOUT THE BOOKSTORES ARE BRIEF AND BASICALLY COVERS THE FROSTING ON A CAKE. I FOUND THIS BOOK TO BE VERY DETAILED AND TO THE POINT. IT CONTAINED INFORMATION THAT WAS UNAVAILABLE ELSEWHERE. IT IS HANDY AND I WILL USE IT FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

This book is great for those who own a rottweiler. It gives important information on the breed and should be a part of anyones library that owns a rottweiler. It can help all those with questions about the breed. Glad to have been able to read and review this book.

I bought this book and used all the info in it, She puts it in easy to follow visual guides, i wasn't shure it would work, but I tried it, and Just had my mares checked and IT WORKS!!!! I bred 10 mares using this program I wanted all Fillies, and according to my vet, that is exactly what I will have next year, YAY!! no holding colts, and they are are already PRE-SOLD!!!! We are having an outstanding XMASS THIS YEAR
A MUST HAVE IF BREEDING HORSES, also from what I have read in here IT WORKS ON HUMANS TOO,, she wanted all Girls, and she had them LOL HOW COOL.

A great book for anyone, young or old. Full of information and fun facts of dachshunds. :)

this is a good book, I have adopted and hope to adopt more dogs in the futre to me adopting and rescuing animals is the only way i will get them, to many animals with potential are being put to sleep, it's murder, fix or nueter your dog at the eirliest possible time PLEASE!!!!

English Springer Spaniel (Breeder's Best) (Breeder's Best) This is a very well written and informative book on the English Springe Spaniel. The book is easy to understand and gives great information on buying, caring for, and training your dog. I would highly recommend this book.
