a new look at chapmans Review Date: 2006-07-03
--- would prefer the older edition , as it was more portable !
and much of the new material will be dated before the year is out!
---this is a volumne at once , serious , and readable,
many an old trick , well preserved , well presented make it quite useful for nearly all navigational tasks,
did remark , a lot of typos , and was surprised , but then this is the cyber era !? so it goes !? --- a real tool !, however!

"Front, Bow! Back, Stern!" Review Date: 2006-07-28
Unlike Rousmaniere's book however, CHAPMAN'S is just as applicable to power boating, and because it is updated much more frequently, it's information on changeable topics such as boating regulations and new technologies, among others, is far more current---CHAPMAN'S is in its 65th incarnation, ANNAPOLIS in its seven-year-old third version (Where's the Fourth Edition?).
Did I say "competition"? Actually, the two volumes complement each other, and both are absolutely crucial for the serious skipper.

An entirely new way to look at Corporate ImageReview Date: 1999-05-04
The corporate image and the process of managing it is a discipline that affects all areas of your business. Now you can find out how to turn this to your advantage.
The use of live examples throughout the book helps to clearly illustrate the effect that the mis-management, and pro-active management of your corporate image has on the public, your customers and prospects.
It is a unique book in the subject of corporate image.Review Date: 1999-05-16

Certainly her choices color are astonishing--layer upon vivid layer, one explosion of red and gold piled on top of pink and purple--yet she manages to pull it off. Laces and velvets, damasks and bits of feathers combine to dazzle the eye in every room.
If you are, say, a college student living on a shoestring, and wish you could think of some way to liven up your shoebox of a dorm room, this book will fill you with ideas. This is certainly the way to turn trash and flea market treasures into colorful, intensely personal style. Also there are great hints. She very carefully explains how to tea stain any bits of lace you may have.

A comprehensive coverage of CRMReview Date: 2008-11-25
Expanded and updated second editionReview Date: 2008-11-03
The publishers contacted adopters and readers of the first edition and asked them what changes they'd like to see incorporated into the new edition. Thanks to everyone who took part. This resulted in a number of important improvements to this edition.
The book is significantly expanded. At seventeen chapters, the second edition is seven chapters longer than the first edition. There are three new chapters dedicated to operational CRM applications - sales force automation, marketing automation and service automation. The chapters define important terms, identify the main vendors and actors, and set out the benefits CRM users can expect to experience and the functionality that is available.
There is a new chapter entitled `understanding relationships'. If CRM is about developing and maintaining relationships with customers, it is important to have clear understanding of what a relationship looks like, and how, if at all, it can be managed. This chapter defines the term `relationship', examines whether customers want relationships with suppliers and vice versa, identifies attributes of successful relationships and reviews five different schools of thought that have influenced relationship management in a business context.
There is a new chapter on planning and implementing CRM projects. This takes readers through a disciplined 5-stage process designed to promote successful CRM outcomes.
There is a new chapter on `customer experience'. Customer experience has become something of a buzzword in the last few years. This chapter explores the concept of customer experience, and addresses the question of whether CRM can or does enhance customer experience.
Many new case illustrations have been added to every chapter, and all other content has been revised and updated. An added feature of this edition is the inclusion of a large number screenshots from CRM software applications. This is designed to give readers a sense of the CRM user's experience.
A final enhancement to this edition is the provision of an array of enriching online content, targeted at meeting the needs of readers and adopters. Adopters have access to a comprehensive set of PowerPoint materials, case studies, learning exercises, and links to CRM vendors, ASP's and analysts.

Buttle's writing is clear and his organization of the material is even better. I especially appreciated his discussion about quality and the importance of understand that the market's perception of quality drives satisfaction and competitiveness. This helps fill in what is a chronic gap in CRM: Most companies look for ways to find the right customers and fire the bad ones using data analytics that they call CRM, based on some of the most insidious principles of customer value management (CVM), viz., that it's the value the customer has to YOU that matters most. That's not the full picture. It's the value YOU have to the customer and prospect that makes sure you're going to be around for any length of time.
This is but one example of how Buttle has laid out CRM as a complete view of the organization, inside and out.
My only "ding" is that it needs to be updated a bit: The next part of CRM will be customer experience management (CEM), which starts with a business rules layer driven precisely by perceived value metrics, so that the right value components of your value proposition are expressed in the right channels in the right way. Another trend that should be emphasized more is the value of using a multi-channel approach for gathering the voice and behavior of the customer to drive innovation, operations and marketing.
So, if you're interested in a well-written, documented, rich and yet broad view of CRM and its implications for your organization, Buttle is a great buy. But also pick up something on customer experience management.

Great translation. The classic black and white illustrations by THE master Gustave Dore. A must for your classics library. I bought it at B&N, very happy with the quality of paper and the lay-out.
This title is quite large in size, almost coffee table book style. Not for dragging around the beach.
Highly recommended!

One tangential note - if you like the illustrations in this you should also check out "Barlow's Inferno", published a few years ago. Wayne Douglas Barlow synthesizes interpretations of hell from many cultures and periods into illustrations of terror and frightful beauty. Barlow is the spiritual inheritor of Dore's vision.

I have given away dozens of copies of this book over the years since I discovered it and have never had anyone not come back to thank me. I reccommend this book to ANYONE who will read it regardless of their beliefs. In it's own way, it has sometimes had a much more profound effect upon those that choose to read it than that of the bible itself. If I were told I could no longer read the bible but could choose one book to take it's place, Jim Bishops' book would be the only choice I could make. It contains within it the complete story and reason for His coming and His murder.
I take time to read it every Easter season and have not yet failed to experience again the awesome chills and overwhelming emotions I felt the first time I read it. It is the most incredible single work to come from the 20th century.
