The Art and Craft of Flower Pounding is awesome. This arts and crafts book is well written with easy to understand directions. The photographs of the projects presented in this book is a motivator in itself. The ideas are endless. Flower pounding is easy enough to do for a child's summer project as well as for an adult. My family is really enjoying this new craft so much that we had to go out and purchase a few more hammers! I highly recommend this book - especially if you are looking for a new, easy and unusual craft - this is it!!!!

A wonderfully stress-relieving craft using flowers & leaves!

I found Laura Martin's book over a year ago, and following the very easy to understand steps, have learned to pound flowers, leaves, and stems onto treated material (she gives the receipe)and also on paper. I have been able to spend many stress-relieving moments with my board and hammer in my little flower garden on cool mornings capturing and preserving the lovely blossoms which I have used to make very special cards, gifts, and treasures that will last a lifetime. I am now teaching this art to a few good friends and some young girls in our homeschool group, encouraging them to buy this book! My 9 year old daughter and I love to make "Flower Fairies" and "Flower Ballarinas" to put on cards, in frames, and on material for pillows and handmade journal covers, etc. The ideas shared have endless possibilities! If you have had a stressful day, go outside in a shaded area, sit on a blanket with your supplies, pick a few wildflowers, or blooms from your garden, or even some from the flowers you find in the floral market of your grocery store, and pound to your hearts content! I especially appreciate Laura Martin's knowledge of flowers shared in her "Plant Guide" in the back of the book. It has inspired me to plant more flowers, spend more time at the floral market and public gardens. I have even purchased seeds from a Wildflower Company online to grow this spring on our 1/2 acre of land that is usually overgrown with weeds! When I visit our kids in Oregon next month, we plan to find some ferns on our hikes that we will pound while taking a rest from our hiking. We will have these beautiful plants preservered as a wonderful reminder of our visit! As a homeschool family, we are using this art to teach our daughter about botany, keeping a visual record of the plants & wildflowers in a notebook, and then looking up the names in books at the library. And we are learning how to cultivate the flowers and are keeping a diary of that process! Highly recommend this book and craft for Garden Clubs, Girl Scouts, and the boys like it, too!

Doug Purdon is a very talented artist. His paintings look like photographs. He is a landscape painter. In this book he demonstrates alot of rock formations and scenes with water. He's very detailed in his explanations and even tells you what colors he mixed. One page in the book, he goes over all the things you should check for in your painting, which I will really use alot.

I think he used too many rock formations as examples, but this is a good book regardless. He paints incredible skies. You will definately want to try alkyds after you see his water effects. Now, I just wish he had a video.

Dougs last entry page says it all and you do not want him to end now you want to learn more.
In Dougs writting he is trying to 'teach' the 'reader' to 'think' like an artist. Doug has not only explained the methods and materials easily but has gone beyond the basics. He has shared his 'insights' and 'knowledge' through his life learning journey as an Artist as though you were with him in person.
Reading through the first 34 pages of his book with active mental imagery has been an inner eye ephany that I have never gotten from any other; Art book or magazine, various selective workshops or art classes, color theory course studies, or even through my Associates degree program in Advertising Art and Design.
I came to this Web Site to see if he has written any other books or recently, but this site shows none. I will certainly try and follow any future Artistic publications by "Douglas Purdon".
And I sincerely look forward to working through his 'basic demonstrations' to comprehend even more 'in depth' with my own 'hands on experiences' with his 'reflected insights' and detailed step by step guides. This is a treasured Art Book that I know I will always remember I have on the shelf as the years go by. (And I do have numerous)
This book is comprehensive and clarifying a blessing for any frustrated Artist who wants to design and create, and to know 'HOW' and 'WHY' and understand with simplicity.

This book was on the summer reading list for my daughter's upcoming first grade year. After receiving it, we read it together and both thought it is very good. Each page has something a child can read, and a small paragraph for me to read. We enjoyed reading this together and have done so many times. She especially enjoyed looking at the pictures of the paintings the Elephants (!) had painted. We both highly recommend this book.

This book has quickly become my 5 1/2 year-old daughter's favorite. She delights in looking at the paintings made by elephants, and I appreciate the way facts about elephants are "sneaked" into the story so seamlessly. Switching back and forth between human students and animal ones makes for an engaging structure. There is humor as well as beauty. Best of all, the book has made us look at elephants--and by extension animals--in a new way (and has also broadened my daughter's concepts of what grown-ups can do as careers). We both really love this book.

An excellent book that fills a gaping hole in the cartooning field. A better title would've been Cartoon Character Design. The book accomplishes everything a How-To book accomplishes while focusing on helping budding cartoons work towards personal style. Each section contains tip lists, excellent shortcuts and insider notes you won't find in other books. I've collected cartooning books for over 30 years. This one is at the top of my list along with Cartooning the Head and Figure by Jack Hamm and Ben Caldwell's Cartooning series.

This book takes you through the union wars of Jimmy Hoffa. It also covers Hoffa's death, as well as Crazy Joe Gallo's death with enough evidence to convince you that Frank Sheeran was atleast in the know, if not the shooter. I'm always skeptical of guys pumping themselves up in these books, but this guy convinced me. Just a fantasic read!!!!

This is the guy who kiled Hoffa and the author lets him spak int he 1st person and adds narrative to it along the way. At first, I was going to put this book down, but I kept going and found it to be an excelent account of life during those times. Some very nasty people accounted here.

The print in this book is large as advertised. This hard cover has a good, sturdy binding.
It's a smooth flowing read.Sheeran's words are in quotations while Brandt's words are in bold type.
The Prologue in this book lays the groundwork for how Frank Sheeran eventually came to confess his involvement in the Hoffa disappearance.
He explains why there would be no body to recover and how trusted people close to Jimmy Hoffa had to be involved.

The information in this book verifies information in other mafia related books that I have read.
Some examples:
Hoffa's claim to possess audio sex tapes involving Bobby Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe.
Joe Kennedy recruiting Sam Giancana to steal the 1960 Presidential election.
Multiple mafia figures and their involvment in the assassination of John F Kennedy.

A lot of the organised crime figures in this book are mentioned in most JFK assassination books.
It's interesting that Frank Sheeran claimed that he deilvered three rifles to David Ferrie in Baltimore shortly before the assassination.

Jimmy Hoffa strenuously opposed the mafia's aiding Kennedy in the election. He was right in the end.

The Nixon administration's corruption was detailed.

One of the bigger contributing factors in Jimmy Hoffa's murder was the access to Teamster funds.Hoffa apparently was not as lenient as Frank Fitzsimmons in collecting debts.

This book is believable to me.Each individual reader will have to assess for themselves whether this book is credible.
It's one of the best mafia related books that I have read so far.

"The incredible secret formula book" gives plenty of neat little things to keep you and your kids busy on those boring summer days.

Most of the things in this book use items you probably all ready have in your home: paper, corn starch, sugar and various food items.

This book details things like How to make invisible ink or disappering ink. If that doesn't interest you there's making chalk out of egg shells or how to recylce paper. you can even make "Mutant slime" a kids favorite. Don't like mutant Slime? how 'bout psylly slime or miss muppet slime? victal slime or udderly Gross slime? lots of fun for kids and thier mom and or dad.

I teach a little art class for two to four year olds at my library, and as soon as I got Lipsey's book I used her enticing "Blob & Blot" lesson on them. They loved it! Many of her lessons will be over their head, but I'll keep turning to her clear illustrations and brightly colored examples for inspiration. Her happy enjoyment of her materials really comes through.

I have purchased all of Jennifer's books for my grandchildren as well as friends and neighbors. They are a wonderful reference book for any type of art work. I found myself browsing the finger painting one yesterday to make a simple ant, lady bug, bumble bee picture. All 3 were in there and very easy and fun...even for a fifty year old. Money well spent for hours of interactive fun. Kim

I checked this book out of the library and was very impressed. The art experiences in this book are open-ended which means the possibilities are up to the child. It is very simple and to the point and most of the materials you already have around the house. Although this book is directed to school age children as it is intended for them to read- parents can take the ideas and gear it toward younger children. The book provides step-by-step color illustrations of every activity. A must buy for anyone wanting to develop the creative spirit!

This book is a welcome addition to the vast repository of teaching materials by Jerry Yarnell. The paintings are more intricate and challenging than in the previous two books. There are moody seas and skies, dramatic cliffs, serene settings, quaint buildings, and birds, elk and a variety of wildlife in the compositions. The step by step instructions are comprehensive, with excellent and detailed color photos of each step. Mr. Yarnell does a terrific job of reiterating and expanding on the fine art techniques that form the basis of all of his teaching material. If you are looking for an instructional painting book that is beyond the beginners level, then you should find this book inspirational, challenging and fun.

I just got back from one of Jerry's workshops and am amazed at how much I feel that I learned. I bought this book at the workshop and it is excellent. It follows Jerry's method of step by step instructions with a photo of what the canvas should look like at each stage.

Jerry's workshop followed the same procedure except we could ask questions and get Jerry to help us over rough spots.

I've bought lot's of art books trying to find something that will help me. Jerry's books fill the bill perfectly! You can't go wrong with them.

Every paint maker must have this book on the shelf. It covers an area which would be otherwise almost completely dark, since there are not many books which deal with paint components, paint making and paint rheology in the same volume.
For artist's paints formulator, everything is useful in this famous reference.
For those who make industrial coatings, even if the formulas of industrial paints have changed since its publication, the principles of dispersion and the theoretical knowledges exposed here are still accurate and have still to be known by engineers. This book presents them clearly.

The book is very important for every person who want to enter the realm of coating technology. But the weakness of this book is also obvious:it is too old to keep abreast with the increasing development of coating industry, for instances the emergence of green coating :high build, solventless, powder coating ,water-borne coating etc.,the new application procedure ,such as cvd,dvd,self-leveling.I think it is time for Mr. Patton to roll up his sleeves to review the theory and practice of coating that have come up since 1979 .God bless Mr. Patton to present his new edition to his readers who is waiting so long for his new book.

This is a typical Mary Engelbreit book with lavish pictures and a "vintagey", comfortable look. Where some of her books are more for ideas than how-to's, this one is not. While you will most definitely find much inspiration in these pages, it also includes shopping lists and detailed instructions for recreating these looks in your home. There are many painting techniques described, including striping, sponging, glazing, and a few more!
