Let me start by saying I really enjoy the book. It's definitely for fans looking for more detailed accounts of certain events. There is a LOT of stuff that even the most diehard's will not have known. That being said, the presentation of the material is awful. There are countless misspellings and even repeated sentences. It really makes it a difficult read. Too bad because the content is great.

A lot of info

Sometimes this book has too much info and detail that makes it hard to read. It reads like a term paper sometimes. But facts are facts; and all Kiss fans will learn something new.

Wyland Paint Kit

My 8 year old granddaughter did very well with the drawing part. She still does not seem to be interested in the painting yet. I think 8 years old is a little young for most for this type of kit. They are still in the watercolor stage, which for them is easier.

Great for Kids

Although I am 25 years old, I bought this book because I love Wyland's work and was curious about how he drew his sea creatures. It came with brushes, some acrylic paints, drawing paper, pencils, and a book giving instruction on how to draw and paint (all in a hard cover folder). It is definetly worth the price and would be a great start up book for kids interested in sea art.

Great painting Techniques Great Decorative Painting Book!

Very thorough, easy to understand with detailed instructions and great photos. Covers step by step instructions for high end decorative painting, not just for beginners or country spong paintings. This shows shellacing, japanese style laquering techniques as well as standard wall painting techniques for many different styles. Just very all inclusive for anyone wanting to add extra touches to their home or to learn a new craft.

Some good information, but a supplement to other books

While the jacket says that it's for all levels, from beginners to masters, there are considerably friendlier books for beginners, such as Fabulous Finishes, Recipies for Surfaces, or The Practical Encylopedia. The layout is better for inspiration than instructions, and the instructions are rather sparse.

The focus is almost completely on oil-based techniques, rather than latex/water-based, which can also intimidate some beginners.

That said, there are some interesting techniques (esp. lacquer) that aren't covered in depth in other books.

Get it if you're interested in a big collection of ideas and techniques, otherwise, there are more usable guides.

His artwork is good. It is helpful in learning techniques to eventually graduate in doing your own work by just looking a scene or picture. All of his books are great, predictable, but great.

A very straght forward and very simple to understand book on perspective. Sure there are more complex and detailed books on this subject on the market, many of which are on my book shelf, but this one is great for beginners and intermediate painters. His video on perspective makes a nice companion to this book.

I purchased this for my 9-year-old daughter, who loves to paint by number. She has now spent many satisfying hours with it. The kit comes with all the paint one needs. The instructions are clear and contain appropriate detail.

I absolutely love this paint by number calendar. My sister got it for me for Christmas and I am crazy about it. It's so much fun to start out with a white picture and then watch it come to life as you color it in. It's the closest thing to being a real artist. Of course, I wish that I had a painters ability to paint my very own sunflowers but we all can't be Vangogh's or Da Vinci's. This has inspired me to go take an art class and who know's maybe I will paint something of my very own.

Here's a tip - The reason I gave it a 4 out of 5 is that I have only finished 1 and 1/2 of my paintings and I already ran out of blue #3 paint b/c of the lighthouse painting, running low on a few others and the brush isn't the greatest. So, I suggest you keep a small cup of water next to you while you paint. Dip your brush lightly in the water (not dripping) just enough to keep it wet then lightly dip in in your paint before applying to the canvas. This will stretch your paint to last longer and make it look smoother especially on the backgrounds. In other words, try not to cake it on but lightly paint by combining the water and paint then watch it go on smoothly. Also use a little water when mixing colors for the same reasons I mentioned above.

I'm going to go to the arts and crafts store to buy more brushes and paints so that I can finish the other 2 paintings.

I suggest getting this gift for anyone who has some time on their hands and loves to pay attention to detail. It's a cool hobby better than watching tv.
Thanks Sis!!

New Orleans sex scene stakeout.

Sonja, with Palmer still around is getting closer to tracking down Morgan, the vampire she would most like to do away with. This supernatural search leads her to the sordid and seedy clubs.

Vampires can control the minds of human, and hence their pleasure centres, making them extremely plaint sex toys as well as prey.

So, much sex and death on the way to a showdown, and hence this novel is a little more twisted than the previous.

This is an amzingly dark, but great series. Not light-hearted like "Bufty", this is much darker, but MUCH better. I have these books on my keeper shelf and I think when you read them you will too.

Detailed how-to book

You know, I'm quite fond of this book, and it isn't because the instructions in this book are greatly better than any of the others in the marketplace, although I would certainly recommend this book before, say, "The Creative Calligraphy Sourcebook," "The Calligrapher's Project Book," or "Illumination for Calligraphers: The Complete Guide for the Ambitious Calligrapher" to someone looking for information on painting medieval-style illuminated letters.

Like Seligman and Noad's "The Illuminated Alphabet," this book is concerned with teaching you how to draw and paint illuminated letters based primarily on pre-1600 examples, and it offers 25 projects towards that end--more than almost any other such book. Its materials and methods are modern rather than pre-1600, unfortunately, so the emphasis here is not on reproductions but bringing the style of the past into the modern world. Materials lists and step-by-step instructions are provided for each project.

However, what I really love about this book is Mr. Oliver's skill level. I do not mean that he is exceptionally wonderful. Mr. Oliver is indeed good at what he does (otherwise, why would anyone publish him, right?), but what is exceptional here is that Mr. Oliver allows himself to be imperfect. Man, that takes confidence. It also allows the illuminated letters to be beautiful as handcrafted works of art. I'm actually kind of tired of instructional manuals that feature art works that seem to be so precise that the work could have been painted by a computer-guided robot arm rather than a real human being.

Excellent Do-it-Yourself Book

Excellent for those who want to paint their own medieval-style illuminated letters. The shading of the paiting leaves a little to be desired, but the book is overall informative on the techniques and styles of manuscript illumination.

Inspiration and instruction

This book has inspired me to be more adventurous when it comes to painting my furniture. I have a hard time imagining what I want in a room, so this book is just what I needed because it provides the inspiration as well as step-by-step instructions. There are plenty of examples from funky to formal, which will help you make your room lively and personal.

Helpful for ideas on complete rooms

Categorized into rooms,(aka living, bedroom, dining) this book starts off demonstrating how the painting of existing furniture can accentuate a room. In some photos, everything is monochromatic, in others - brightly decorated with bold colors and patterns. All photos are color, and show the entire room. Complete instructions for each project are in the back, along with some stencil patterns used.

If you're looking for a primer on faux painting, this isn't it though. It does cover antiquing & crackle finishes.

I liked looking through it, but there's nothing really impressive. ...

It's a great book. Very informative. Next release should be colourful, with pictures, graphics, and may be with a formulation CD, DVD movies on the back cover, showing how you make it practically. (Hint:You can use some sponsored product suppliers for demo expenses while giving their product exposures, its a win win situation.) Thank you all.

A broad yet relatively complete technical foray into the specialized domain of printing inks. For inkies I find this book is most useful to shore up on ink types you are not most familiar with. Not too technical. A must for those involved in formulating inks.

A fantastic book that will show you step by step how to get the most out of Paint Shop Pro, even if you have NEVER worked with a graphics program before (such as myself). After working through the book you will be very comfortable with all the different tools and you will have created some spectacular projects. The only negative remark that I have is that this book uses the exact same tutorials that were taught in the book for version 5, they have however been expanded to cover the new features in Paint Shop Pro version 6.

Well...

This book gets three stars. It's okay. If you are totally new to Paint Shop Pro, this book is for you. For those that know a good amount or are masters, don't bother.

First of all, it's almost exactly like the Teach Yourself Paint Shop pro 5.0 in 24 hours. The only thing is added is the few new features in 6.0. Even the tutors are the same...same wording, same everything. If you have 5.0 book, don't bother getting this book.

Second, it reads like the manuel. Why pay 20 bucks for a book you already have?

Third, don't believe the 24 hour thing. Usually there is about two or three tutors per one hour session...but trust me, it takes more practice and more tutors with some applications such as layers and masks.

On a good note, it does teach you some techniques and also gives you information on PSP's tools. You also get information on basic web design with a lot of common web design questions answered.
