This is a beautiful collection of watercolor paintings featuring a wide range of different subjects including nature, animals, people, landscapes and still lives. It will offer inspiration for years to come.

Each picture lists the artist, tile, size and paper used. A brief comment by the artist is also included. All images are placed one to a page. Contact information for each artist is included in the back.

Some of my favorite paintings include a colorful, energetic landscape titled the Blue Shadow Side by Harold Gregor and a portrait of four little girls of various ethnic backgrounds by Judithe Randall. I liked the whimsical mushroom piece called Magical Forest VIII by Jerry Little and the nostalgic tricycle by D. Denghausen. I also enjoyed a polar bear by Colleen Newport Stevens called Midnight on the Ice, done mostly with a wet-in-wet technique.

This book is a great addition to any watercolor artists or enthusiast's library. It also makes a great gift.

For the beginning watercolor floral painter there is no better guide than Joan Hansen's FLORAL SCENES IN WATERCOLOR. This inexpensive, beautifully illustrated, large format book takes you through all of the steps from basic composition to the many watercolor techniques used for creating texture and color balance. The book is well written, concise and easy to follow. As a watercolor instructor it is the first floral painting book I recommend. Interested artists will find no better guide.

This book is very inspiring. It helps you to make your own paintings. I just started to make watercolor paintings. I have had only 10 lessons. But this book is a great help. I like the style of painting of Shirle Bedient. The colorprints in this book are beautiful.

After months of sitting with my preschooler at the easel and painting nothing but crude daisies, I bought this book. It's been three days and I am already painting flowers that look like flowers. The techniques are simple and are explained well with text and photographs. I find that many how-to-paint books are filled with the artist's own finished works but never show the intimidated beginner how to get there. This book is different in that it takes the reader through a step-by-step process that begins with the first stroke and ends with the final product. I highly recommend this book to the beginning watercolorist.

I highly recommend this book for learning to use watercolor pencils effectively. The book gives clear, easy-to-follow instructions. As a rubber stamper, I found many of these techniques a very useful addition to my artwork.

The book starts out by explaining how watercolor pencils are different from traditional watercolor. Materials needed are covered next. Then, making various textures & mixing colors to make them work together are explained.

Many types of subject matter are covered including vegetables, flowers, landscapes, animals, china, and glass. The emphasis is on a demonstrating a wide range of techniques in a step-by-step manner rather than actual projects.

There is also information on using watercolor crayons & combining watercolor pencils with traditional watercolors. Working on colored paper is discussed as well. This small book provides a wealth of valuable information.

A Fun Way to Make Fast Progress--Great Book!!

I needed more experience with landscapes in watercolor, so I bought this book. The paintings that you learn to do in it are beautiful and exciting, but not too difficult. Step-by-step instructions are given beginning with the pencil sketch you will need on your watercolor paper and then proceeding to the first wash. Each lesson teaches something new.

The book begins with the usual material needed section, and then proceed to teach the basic painting techniques step-by-step by having you do a simple painting of ex: a simplified tree using wet-wet and then adding the trunk using another technique. Wet on dry is then taught in a 3-step exercise of a cloudy sky, lake and hills (nothing detailed---the book teaches everything in small exercises (paintings).

Next, 2 exercises in the use of masking medium and lifting medium.
Next, there are 2 pages on each subject of composition, choosing warm vs cool colors, perspectives. A few color mixes are suggested that can be safely used for landscape subjects.

The rest (majority) of the book is then dedicated to step-by-step painting projects-- the first several paintings teach you the basics of painting different types of clouds and skies. Next---Water--sunlight on water, reflections in water, moving water, waterfall, rough sea, moody sea. Each of these lessons are taught by following step-by-step directions to make a small painting

Next, mountains and lakes, then, trees and foliage--winter tree, foliage, tree shapes, trees in a setting, autumn trees. Next, a 6-page class on painting a scene of a road surrounded by trees with sunlight beaming through the trees--- as you progress in the book, the paintings you do become more detailed, building the beginner painter's confidence in a stepped method.

Next, Buildings and textures--linear perspective, light and shade--again, a step-by-step painting to do--simple but beautiful. Next, simple brickwork, with a step-by-step instruction to achieve an interesting end- product of a stuccoed wall with bricks showing through a hole and cracks on the stucco.

Next, windows and roofs, then a 6-page class on painting a farm scene-- the sketch to have on your paper is shown, making everything easy and fun.
Next, reflection--puddles on a farm track, buildings reflected in a flooded field, reflected boats, and a denver mill.

Several more beautiful paintings are taught in a stepped method, including winter landscape with a snow-covered tree, shadows on snow, low tide coastal scene, etc..

This is an outstanding book for beginner watercolorists. I was impressed by the simplicity of the paintings that you do, but at the same time, something you can be proud of and build on for the more complicated paintings.

Humorous and intelligent account of one man's experiences during World War II and then in theatre design primarily in New York City during the late 1940's through the 1970's. Full of original sketches by this Broadway pioneer. Would be of interest to anyone who loves theatre history.
