Of all the pastel books out there, this is the keeper!I cannot believe it is out of print! Elizabeth Mowry is well known in
the Pastel world and in this manificently detailed and illustrated book, she demonstrates why. This lady writes well, and unlike
most artists who write books, has no vague generalities concerning what to use and how to use it to achieve the results that
she demonstrates. Elizabeth Mowry's talents are in the use of pastels in the landscape and her work is stunning! As a professional
portrait artist, I have utilized her pallet and techniques in combination with my portrait work and would recommend ANY of
her books to any level of artist!

Paint the Sea in Oils Using Special Effects
This is the hardcover edition of the above book. (See more reviews for this book on that other listing).
This book is well worth buying just for the spectacular artwork of E. John Robinson, but the lessons are fantastic, and unlike any I've seen in other books on painting the sea. Even someone who doesn't paint in oils could thoroughly enjoy this book for the knowledge John Robinson shares about his meticulous observations of waves and how they move and how the sunlight plays on the water, etc.. It will make you enjoy the ocean a lot more when you're there, with the deeper understanding of it that John Robinson so graciously shares with us.
John Robinson has spent many hours taking videos of ocean waves, then going home to watch them in slow motion to understand their anatomy as an artist would. He will show you about everything you need to know about painting the ocean and it's many moods, along with rock painting as well, of course. Along with teaching how to paint the sea, Robinson has a very gentle way of teaching which is relaxing and often philosophical. This is a fantastic book that you really will want to keep for quite a while. Robinson's paintings are breathtaking. It's amazing how many different ways there are to paint the sea.
I will give a brief outline of the topics taught, as indicated in his contents page:

Jeri Castronova's Paint The Sky And Dance: Women And The New Myths Wookbook is a workbook companion to Paint The Sky And Dance:
Women And The New Myths. Presented to aid women in the exploration of their personal myths, this consumable resource offers
questions to ponder and write about, in the voyage to understand one's spirit guides and guardian angels, how to transform
oneself for the better, be the Hero in one's own life, and harness the power of personal myths to set and pursue positive
goals. For example, the first step suggested to free one's Inner Child is "Give your imagination permission to express itself
by imagining your Inner Child coming out. What feelings and sensations do you feel?" Paint The Sky And Dance is an excellent
and recommended self-discovery tool.

This is a great book for an art lover to read. It is not only because the author Mr. Dong has a tremendus reputation in the
watercolor world but also his beautiful art works with familiar city scenes. Reading this book makes you feel that you have
been traveling with this great artist as a long time friend, bringing you into his life. from a young boy who like to paint
the Yellow Tiger until he becomes a famous artist. Whether this book serve as an autobiography or a story book, the author
put most of his art skills and philosophy into it. Such as, all his human figures are facing the same direction and think
the same things, He always seems to put the oriental Yin-Yan rule into his painting. I also enjoy his soft color, the balance
of shape and light and the composition for which he has become so famous.

Finally, a management book that is ensightful, very useful, and very easy to read. I wish one of my college professors would
have incorporated this book into the class. I learned more from this book than from all the classes I took for my undergrad
and grad degrees. I give it a very strong recommendation.

"Successful paintings express feelings. I think paintings without emotion content aren't worth the paper. Clever technique
alone has little lasting value. Superficial dash and sparkle fade pretty rapidly in interest." That's what the artist states
and is ever so true, true to the feelings and true to his faith to art. I am always inspired by this artist, through what
he says, through his paintings and how he started his watercolour painting at his fifty! The light, the emotions, the people,
and the whole feel of the picture... the painting itself tells!! I have read this book for many times and every time I read
like is the first time. If you love watercolour painting, you should not miss this book!
