This is a well-written and thorough resource for Independence Rock and the surrounding area. I found it facinating and helpful
and would highly recommend it to anyone who has interest in the area. The authors have put an incredible amount of time and
effort into listing all the known and readable writings in the area. You should get it before you go, rather than after you
leave as I did. Your experience will be much greater if you look through the book first and take it with you.

I am a Color Manager for one of the worlds largest paint companies and even though I have been working with pigments for 15
years I have found W. Herbst & K. Hunger's "Industrial Organic Pigments" to be a great reference book which I wouldn't want
to miss anymore.
It contains information on almost all of the currently available organic pigments, including chemical structures, properties and much helpful information to each of them.
It is full of information that one needs to make educated decisions on the use of organic pigments and their suitability for the intended purpose.
It is well worth the comparably high price, as this book will save you hours and hours by providing information that one would have to "hunt-down" from suppliers or other books. Highly recommended.

If you want to learn the basics about industrial paint or powder coating 101, this is the textbook. It explains in lamens's
terms what you need to know. Perfect for someone just starting out in the business as a buyer or specifier. Just enough technical
detail wihout being too scientific. Even a veteran painter could learn a thing or two from this book.

I have the second, and now the third edition. I think it's no possible to find a wider coverage about all the subjects related
with painting, in only one book. Pehaps, if you use Internet and you have many subscriptions to paint magazines, you can read
about specifix items, but never a such coverage.
Direct language, no too much chemistry (we are in the industry, and not in the Universities), a very straight orientation to our every day work. Congratulations

I have been practicing art, mainly pin-up art as only a past time for the last year or so. I have bought many books and gone
through various methods. I really dig this book. In the introduction he mentions all of the past artists that should be researched
and the importance and style of pin up art. He addresses throughout the accetuations that separates a pin up girl from a life
portrait. He also tries to keep up with modern times with where 'sexy' art is.
His methodology was great, I wish there was more, but with his great examples you get plenty. He has some nice break downs, from pencil to paint, all the while pointing out key ingredients. He deffinitely has inspired some good art out of me already.

This book is hilarious. Each page contains a scene of famous 90s personalities, from Bill and Monica to Dan Quayle and the
potato incident. My favorite is Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding, though Marion Barry behind bars and Hugh Grant's mug shot
after arrest for soliciting prostitution are pretty good too. This book would make a great gag gift.

My Copy was given to me by the author after meeting her on a train, she gave me the book because I was wearing a jacket I
had made myself out of used tyveck express mail envelopes. She said the jacket reminded her of the character in her book.
It is a darling little book with cute funny illustrations and is a great book for little girls and is somewhat reminicent
of D. Manus Pinkwater in that it is appropriate for children and is sophisticated enough for adults to enjoy. I think this
would make a lovely gift for any little girl interested in science or art or both.

Lotus, a modern-day fairy tale, is a wonderful story that cleverly mixes fantasy and science while remaining completely accessible
to an audience of both children and adults. It's so refreshing to read a fairy tale whose message is not the pretty=good,
ugly=bad theories that I grew up with, but rather presents characters that are motivated to make the world a better place,
to help the environment and (yes!) find personal happiness. Worthy encourages the reader to use his/her brain, with a little
help from scientific discoveries, to improve their sociological and environmental surroundings - a tall order for a short
book.
Worthy writes expertly, incorporating humor and creating vivid images. I love the descriptions of Queen Francine's empire and delightful drawings by the author. I can't wait for the next in the series!

the talented authors love Airedales and appreciate this unique breed. Although the book is paperback, the quality of the
images are very good; the pictures are vibrant and colorful. Very nice to own or give as a gift!

I have demonstrated to my son how to draw a house, a stickman, and a tree - that's where my artistic ability ends. This book
gives me the tools to expand my son's imagination about the potential to create using paint and fingers (very simple tools).
The finger paintings demonstrated in this book look fun even for me as an adult.

Dr. Shanefield was an improtant colleague and advisor back at my first job with Western Electric Engineering Research Center,
Princeton.
Dan gave guidance to me while I worked through a critical problem in a WE ceramic manufacturing process. It was during this period that I learned to focus on the obscure and think. We had a great team.
Thank you, Dan!

A VERY HANDY BOOK FROM THE MASTER OF THIS BUSINESS

Well...I am a little (!) biased at the get-go in writing this review since I know Dr. Shanefield in person (in fact his office
is next to mine!). This book aims at providing the reader with a sound backround in ceramic processing, as well as the essential
"working tools" needed in real life. It is written rather densely. You will find useful information in almost every single
sentence of the book. The text is nothing but a reflection of the infamous DJ Shanefield trademark of competence that is
recognized all over the world (spanning three successful decades of industrial research).
The book addresses all the main aspects of ceramic processing (from powder characteristics to colloidal processing and sintering) and provides the reader with great insights into the underlying chemical phenomena from an operational point of view. What I particularily like about this book is its very concise summary of the underlying organic chemistry principles of binders. Consequently, the reader does not have to make recourse to organic chemistry books and extract the necessary background information for him/herself. This book, terefore, is a very valuable source in aquiring the threshold amount of information on organic chemistry for an array of applications in processing science.
The book also contains many case studies (including laboratory experiments) at the end that are derived from the author's many years of experience in industry. Many footnotes are included in the book as well, which are very entertaining and educational. In my opinion, the book deserves special recognition since it blends "science" and real life together in a very effective and balanced manner, which some of us simply call Engineering! Specifically, in this book the reader is exposed to problem solving en lieu of being bombarded by a wealth of encyclopedic information which, unfortunately, is the case with many books on this subject. I highly recommend this book to those who want learn more about Ceramic Processing.

Reviewer Dr. Lund notes on the book's back cover, "If you are a serious student of the western emigration, you will want this book." No argument there. Even to the novice of westward migration this is a wonderful look into the history, mystery, legends and emigrant experiences of this seemingly mythical, but certainly real place, along the Oregon Trail.
An insightful read.
