This book is so good, that after 20 years since reading it, I remember the joy it brought me. As a young reader, the Danny Dunn books opened up a whole world to me.

Danny Dunn was my introduction to the excitement and wonder of books and turned me into a voracious reader. In this book Danny once again acts without thinking and creates a substance that will defy gravity and send a space ship (and himself as well) into outer space. Delightful and intriguing.

I highly recommend this book to the novice or experienced decoupager. Rhonda Rainey has very thoughtfully compiled a very user-friendly guide. What impressed me most, in comparison to many other decoupage how-to books, was how clearly everything is explained and layed out in order to complete the featured techniques. Not only that, there is an easy to understand, not too technical overview of decoupaging at the start of the book. The print is very readable. All the materials, tools, and supplies needed are pictured and listed which is very helpful. Last but not least, her creative ideas with combining decoupage with faux finishes are the most appealing designs that I have seen compiled in one book. I have many other decoupage books but I regard Decorating with Paper and Paint as my decoupage bible.

Twenty-six completely different, gorgeous and remarkably easy techniques are shown in glorious, large photos, and with very complete step-by-step instructions.

If you have (or want to have) anything to do with either working with paper or paint, stamping, embossing, decoupaging, gilding, scrapbooking, or pressing flowers or leaves, you will use these techniques for the rest of your life in millions of ways, and never tire of the creative possibilities uniquely yours with professional, stunning results possible every time.

I've only begun to get into paper crafting in the last few months, and I had no problem re-creating the techniques into projects of my own, and into three of the eighteen projects she gives to kick-start creativity with the demonstrated techniques. This book will be a favorite for years to come! It's for the person who is only thinking about trying this type of craft (by the time you're done perusing this book, you'll jump in and start doing!) all the way to the person who has done this stuff for years, as the inspiration is powerful...

This book is like a Bible to me and my girl friend. We use it about every day and selling it to some of our customers. This book has so many colors in it and they are true colors to match up with. I think it helps to see the colors that you are looking for not to just read about the color and match it up that way, it is just so handy to look at the colors.

This is not a book on technique, but I wouldn't sell it for the world. Rubena is truly an artist, and just picking up her book, makes me want to do decoupage. I actually bought it to learn more about varnishing methods, and she does explain that well, but to me it's more a source of ideas.
Every project in her book, she explains in detail how she accomplished it.
If you buy it you won't be sorry if you like decoupage.

Sophisticated Decoupaging

I have to say that out of what I have seen in decoupage books and artists, Rubena Grigg has it over all. In my book, sophisticated wins out especially after one is continually confronted with the endless stream of cutesy, mediocrity in so many "crafts" today. This lady is an artisan!

Her pictures are quite good and her decoupaged tabletop along with the black ground floral tin pitchers are BREATHTAKING....no overkill here...they are my personal favorites.

The instructions, although not pictorial are adequate and the pictures will definitely inspire you to get started....I know I want to!

For incredible inspiration alone, this book is worth the purchase.

Great kit for anyone wanting to learn to draw

My 12 yr. old daughter received this kit for her birthday, and I have been very impressed with it. It comes with several pencils, a pencil sharpener, a kneaded eraser, sandpaper, blender, black watercolor paint & paintbrushes, plus complete instructions on how to use them. My daughter loves to draw, but I was still amazed at how good her first drawing was using this kit! Having the right tools and knowing how to use them are a powerful thing for a kid - or anyone else, for that matter.

Cool way to learn to draw!

This is a sweet little kit to add to my collection of things to do when I'm bored! I really love the pencil sharpener, it's some sort of metal.
Gee, I suck at writing reviews...

Love scrapbooking? EASY SCRAPBOOK EMBELLISHMENT will take you to a whole new level. Even if you are new to the craft, this book offers many easy step-by-step instructions with a list of materials and tips for the beginner with an expertise guide.

This book provides 65 scrapbook layouts, information about tools needed, such as various adhesives to use, the top five tools to use as well as tools for the pros. The book also includes where to store your materials and 15 extra project ideas, such as party favors, keepsake boxes and framing suggestions.

Each project in the book focuses on one embellishment and includes a list of what you'll need in order to complete it. You'll not only get written instructions, but nice large photos to accompany each step.

I could go on and on about this book, because it's a must have for scrapbooking fans. I highly recommend it. This is something you'll use time and time again as a reference guide.

There are several projects within the book, but each project only focuses on one embellishment technique. There's a large photo of a scrapbook page, followed by a "what you need section" that gives a complete list of what was used to make that particular scrapbook page. Then there are step-by-step instructions for making a specific embellishment on the following page. And since I am pursuing a side business in mixed media art, I find that several of these techniques will transfer over quite nicely!

Should Get An Award For Best Layout
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 2000-12-12
One would think that art books would automatically have the best visual layouts of any books. I wish that were true! This book is probably the best layout for a how-to book I've yet seen. You can open the book to any page and the visuals are so good and text so well integrated that you will learn something then and there. This is wonderful because artists don't necessarily like progressing in art books from page 1 to the end. However, most publishers assume that is the way that they do take in how-to material. I work in mixed media and am currently concentrating on the human figure and face. Thus, this book perfectly suits me. The author is also open to a variety of styles and is not focused on only one style. I too like variety in style. Someone who is still trying to choose a medium should also benefit from this book as you can easily see the benefits and detriments of each as applied to this subject matter. However, if you are solely focused on one medium, rendered in one style, on one small portion of the human body or face, then this may not be a good choice for you. Although, then I think you especially could stand to have your artistic vision given a bit broader and looser scope than that description implies.

Great "how-to" book

For anyone interested in learning to paint portraits, this is an excellent "how-to" book, much better than the average. For a relatively small book, it contains a surprising amount of information, including painting in different media and styles, selected palettes of several contemporary painters, with particular attention given to composition as well. I saw this book in Ireland on a recent trip, and am so glad to find that I can get my own copy here at home.

Great Lessons for Watercolor Flowers
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-14
This is an excellent book to learn watercolor flower painting with, and I love the loose, relaxed style of the 50 flowers you will learn to draw and paint. It is different from some other watercolor books I already own, and fills a nice gap in learning to vary painting styles.

I really like it for it's simplicity and loose relaxing style, while at the same time, presenting about 50 different types of flowers to paint in a step-by-step fashion. It's a great book. It has drawing instructions for each flower, pointing out the details and things such as a folded or twisted petal, and how the bud attaches to the stem. Arrows explaining where the light and shadows fall and how to paint that are easy to follow. The palette for each painting is between 3 to 6 colors, which I also found nice. The washes and layering are also taught in an easy to follow manner.

The book is almost completely devoted to 50 two-page exercises on painting 50 different flowers from letter A to W, and does not spend much time on presenting such things as color theory. I really like this book and recommend it to anyone who wants to learn and practice flowers in watercolors.
