My children loved this book. I started reading it to my daughter when she was 19 months and my son when he was 14 months. It is a wonderful introduction to the birth of Christ for little ones. My daughter memorized what was written under the flaps at a very early age. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph were some of her first words. Our book has had so much use that I am looking for another.

My daughter loves flap books but never picks this one up to read. The illustrations are nice but perhaps not as appealing to a toddler. Text does not instill her curiosity.

The superb photographs of the lovable little hounds are sure to make beagle lovers out of anybody who encounters this book. If you are lucky enough to own a beagle, this book will make you appreciate your winsome, intelligent, loud barked little hound all the more.

If you are not the owner of a beagle, you will get vicarious pleasure through this book. The photographs bring the lovable hound into the hearts of those who read this adorable little book.

A wonderful introduction to the joy of Beagles.

Maybe you have loved Beagles since childhood, when a precious tri-color companion was your best friend. Maybe you are a hunter dedicated to habitat preservation and interaction with "man's best friend" in a working relationship. And maybe you just saw a beagle photographed in a Paris apartment on the pages of an upscale magazine. No matter who you are, you are going to love this book - and want to give it as a gift to those special people who have admired your special dog. With some of the very best Beagle photographs ever collected, this sweet little book may surprise you with the depth of knowledge sometime lacking in the dog books that promise more than they deliver. If you can't cuddle up with a beagle tonight, cuddle up with this book instead!

This isn't a book about goddesses or any form of neopaganism or "mythology", but it is a fantastic book of inspirational quotes. And contrary to what some people said, my book has many beautiful illistrations on the inside pages. This is a fantastic book to keep in your purse and pull out and read when you're down and out to help you bring yourself up!

Affirmation / Quote Book. Not a Goddess book.

This book is only for people who like affirmations or quotes from famous women. There is no artwork other than the cover. Not for people who collect books on the Goddess. Also, it is a mini-book.

This beautiful little book that has a bookmark with a sun pendant attached. The images inside are bright, simple but have a symbolism in them. The words are powerful. This is the little book you buy to give away as a present or keep for yourself be reminded of other strong women out there. I enjoyed it because I don't often see many little books like this around.

Better than the Golden Snitch I got from the Noble Collection

A few months ago I bought a Golden Snitch from the Noble Collection which has tons of high quality Harry Potter Memorabilia for $55 dollars and it was worth it. However this one has more detail more closely resembling the Golden Snitch seen in the movies. Yes it is plastic, however had I seen this in a store I would have paid well over $200 dollars for it and no more than $100 for the one I got from the Noble Collection. True if you are looking for a sticker book than you will be disappointed, but I did not want a sticker book ~ I wanted the Golden Snitch and it was well worth it to me. But for less than $9.00 this is well worth the cost. If you are a Harry Potter fan you cannot go wrong to purchase this item.

I find it a little dissapointing.
You will find no book here. Only 8 stickers. The four seals of the Four Houses of Hogwarts, the Hogwarts seal, and 3 portraits of Harry, Draco Malfoy and Cedric Diggory (not drawings, the actors). Then, there's the Golden Snitch. The stand where you can put it on is made of solid wood, but the actual ball is (bad) painted plastic, and the wings are also plastic.
I don't recommend this object for small children. They can hurt themselves with the wings (they are very pointy).
I like to collect gadgets from movies, and in the end, this turns out OK put on a shelf, besides the books. But there are better gadgets for Harry Potter fans out there.

I purchased this item for my brother & sister-in-law, who are HUGE Harry Potter fans and into the whole collectibles scene. They already have a decent collection of Harry Potter merchandise, and were pleasantly surprised to acquire this. It is definitely not a toy, nor would I consider it for small children, as indicated by the 9+ age advisory. For what it is (a cheap, fairly accurate movie prop), it's a great product. It is much better than similar products, of which there are many in and above it's price range. I researched the product before buying and aside from an actual Snitch, built to movie specs and licensed by Warner Bros (which does not exist at the time of this review), I would definitely pick this one.

Not as good as book 1

Review Date: 2008-10-20
I really liked book 1 of this series, and so was looking forward to book 2.

Book 1 struck me as original, in this book I thought the author had a contract to write a book, but no idea what to write about. For example, one thing a nosey parker type detective has to have is a good, believable reason for getting involved with a crime in the first place. It was never explained why a half stranger would ask our detective to get involved and why Gerry would get involved with it, since her grand child was visiting.

At one point in the story, the main character's tires were slashed. If nothing else, she should have quit then since she was imperiling herself and grandchild for no real reason.

Believe me, I do understand that no one really involves themselves in murder and to do so in any situation would be dangerous, but in most mysteries, there's a semblence of reason for getting involved. In this one, a supposedly loving grandmother imperils herself and theoretically the grand child for someone she barely knows and wasn't much interested in before the crime. It never mades sense to me. (understand that no one ever threatens the grandchild, Gerry just wonders about it from time to time.)

The story seemed to be written to formula, and you could pop anyone into the story as the main character with out changing it.

I wouldn't bother with this one.

Who wouldn't want to spend time with Geraldine Porter? She's a wonderful grandmother to Maddie and not above ice cream for dinner. Not only does she impart all kinds of neat hints about miniature making - like using salt to fill a tiny pillow, but tracks down the real murderer when of one her craft students is accused of the crime.

The small town setting with the Lincoln theme is fun and a nice place to escape into during this warm and intriguing story.

Miniatures and Morals: The Christian Novels of Jane Austen

Only buy this to read if you are a severe Jane Austen fan, otherwise, you'll be a bit bored. I was bored - sorry the truth is painful. I love Leithart though, so buy his other books!

Or, perhaps I should say, Leithart's depth of knowledge and love for the texts he's dealing with is obvious; and he communicates both well to his audience. (He spends the first 30pgs or so defending, rather well I must add, the thesis "Real Men Read Austen"; quite funny.)

An excellent text for a newbie or for a well studied Austen-phile.

Beware: You may begin to enjoy Jane Austen

It was not until I had read Peter Leithart's gem of a book "Miniatures and Morals", did I have a better understanding of the writings by Jane Austen. Mr. Leithart offers wonderful insight into the world of Jane Austen and the intent that she writes with. Mr. Leithart delves into the world of Jane Austen and looks for possible Christian themes and undertones that may be pulled away from the text. As much as a praise as that may be, it is also my only criticism of his work. I believe that Mr. leithart attempts to create a religious context around POSSIBLE Christian undertones throughout her work. Nevertheless, the insight does help create an ambiance around all of Jane Austen's writings which is intriguing and very insightful.

I do not know which is more difficult, getting six junior high boys interested in the works of Jane Austen, or motivating myself to teach them "Pride and Prejudice". But this became an intricate puzzle of history and literature that both, myself and my students, accepted as an adventure and a struggle worthy to fight.

Above all, I highly recommend this book as it was very beneficial for me and my students. If you are looking for a platform to use to jump into the works of Jane Austen then I would ask that you consider Peter Leithart's, "Miniatures and Morals" as you secondary resource, for it is unquestionable that you supplement that for Jane Austen. Read Austen with your left and have Leithart in your right.

Good, but lacking in grooming and body language
Helpful Votes: 16 out of 16 total.
Review Date: 2005-12-14
Based on other's recommendation prior to mine, I was looking forward to this as a definitive Miniature Schnauzer guide, but was somewhat disappointed in its lack of depth on certain subjects.

Not to say this is a bad book or has irrelevant information, but for new dog owners it has both its pros and cons.

As a plus, the explanation of the breed and characteristics is thorough, as well as picking a puppy and what to expect. This takes up the first 1/3rd of the book.

I found the grooming section to be great in some areas, but not so informative in others. There is very little information about cleaning ears (the proper and safe way) and why it's important (ear mites, bacterial odor, discharge, infection)....the best it says is pluck hairs and clean with rubbing alcohol in only two sentences. There should be much more on ear treatment. There is a section devoted to oral care which is good. This book more so concentrates on brushing the coat, baths, and clippering.

I would have also like to have seen more on body language as new owners may not always know what their dog is trying to communicate to them. This includes if the puppy or mature dog is not feeling well and what 'subtle' signs to look for.

There is a section describing ailments, parasites, and diseases...but not so much information on how to treat, other than: "See your vet." Duh!!

The only training really covered in this book is "house-breaking, which while important is one facet of a puppy/human relationship. I would have liked to see expanded discussion on other basics such as: Sit, Stay, barking, etc...

While I do recommend this book, it is a very high level look at the breed, but lacking in some detailed information on important day to day concerns of new dog owners.

Good Book, Could Have More Basic Info.

Review Date: 2005-07-28
This book is pretty well done as pet books go. The photos and the quality of the paper are excellent. I was a little disappointed not to have an anticipated weight as a function of age or the weight range of the mature dog. I would like to have known how much and when (what hours of the day and how many times a day is best)to feed the puppy as he matures. I got all this info and more from the vet, but more detail in the book, of what to do and what to expect from the typical schnauzer from puppy to dog would have been helpful.

There is a lot of information about showing and breeding, but these are not my areas of interest. The section on Housebreaking and Training beginning on page 80, is well done and quite helpful.

Very helpful for a beginner

I bought this book because we were considering getting a new puppy and were interested in Miniature Schnauzers. I liked this book because it gave a brief history and evolution of today's dog which helped me understand more fully the personality of the Miniature Schnauzer. It also answered my key questions about selecting a puppy, as well as, crate training and housebreaking. The book will give you a general feel for what will be needed to appropriately care for this breed. I feel that after reading this book, I can better converse with breeders and am more informed. Since I haven't read any other books specific to the Miniature Schnauzer, I cannot compare to other sources. But I have found it more than adequate for my current need - preparation for purchasing a puppy. One final comment, the book has glossy pages and has plenty of supplemental color photographs. I particulary enjoyed the photographs of a variety of dogs of this breed - it helps me tremendously in the selection process.

Not Exactly What I Expected

I was slightly disappointed when I received this score. While the contents of the book are exceptional - as is always the case with Dover - and the binding of the book is unusually strong - sewn, not glued - I found it disturbingly thin. Much to my dismay, I discovered that this book did not contain every piece I had expected. Perhaps I am unfamiliar with the exact contents of the "Nutcracker Suite," but all the pieces on my Nutcracker CD were NOT in this score.

99.9% of the time, Dover produces the best score available to the average consumer. This is the .1%. While it might be the best score on the market today, I found that it was not what I had wanted. Don't get me wrong - everything in the book is fantastic - I had just expected more.

I purchased this score years ago before Dover published the full ballet score, and though I wished I had the full ballet at the time, this sufficed as a convenient set of selections from the ballet that form the Suite. Please, do realize that this is the SUITE and not the full ballet. It does say it in the title, but I've read a few reviews from people upset by the fact that it wasn't the full ballet. The title says "Suite" so please realize this before purchasing this product.

This book is a $14.95 disappointment. Davidson coversonly ONE figure, a resin one, and never bothers evento tell us the scale. What you get is numerous colorphotos of the SAME figure, from different angles. Youend up learning about ONE figure, ONE technique, ONEstyle of painting. How much can anyone learn from that?Schiffler has pulled this stunt before. I figure thatit is just a ripoff. Find any of the older books onpainting miniatures. You will be happier
