For the price it is OK. It reminds me of the videos that teach you how to pinstipe and paint flames. They make it look so easy when it isn't. For a much better, albeit more expensive and a bit more difficult to locate, get the FAQ Frequently Asked Questions about painting figure techniques by the Andrea Miniatures Team published by Andrea Press.

Actually, I haven't seen the new edition of this book; only the original. The techniques of using acrylics for figure painting are explained very clearly and the photos are very good. Each stage of achieving the final result is shown. BEST OF ALL: The authors of this book do good work, so you know THEY know what they're talking about! Beware of another book on painting figures with acrylics...this was the first I've seen and is still light years ahead of the 'other'.

This book was exactly what I was looking for. I'm fairly fussy when it comes to my hobbies, and will only invest in something that I know is good.

It has lots of step-by-step photos and techniques explained in detail.

The authors are very experienced and do excellent jobs of conveying their many years of experience.

I highly recommend this book if you're interested in painting figures. Novice to experienced painters will not be disappointed, it's definitely a keeper that will be used many times as reference in the future.

The current edition is a major revision of the original book, and includes detailed information on painting with oils as well as acrylic paints. Most techniques are well illustrated with good quality closeup photographs, which really helps to walk you through the steps.

I was very disappointed with this book. Not only is it very small in size (about 3"x3") which makes it hard to read, the farther I got in this book the more critical it seemed to get. If you parent in any way different from this writer, you are looked down on. I am very sorry I waisted my money on this book.

I was Jan's undergraduate advisor at the University of Connecticut in the mid 1960s. Even then she had a keen, quick-witted sense of humor. It is nice to see that after 35 plus years, three marriages, two divorces, two sons, and two grandkids, Jan has not lost her "edge." She simply has that much more material with which to work!! This is definitely her best book yet. A good read, even for males.

I ordered Job Hunting for Dummies and I guess Amazon found one. It turned out that this wasn't Job Hunting for Dummies but a mini-book with a few excerpts for the full book. Since the picture on Amazon looked like a book and Amazon didn't flag that this was a mini-book, I didn't know that I bought the wrong thing until it arrived in the mail. As a result, I had to go to the bookstore and bought the real thing. Buyer beware!

After several years of complete dedication to my career and to the company I was employed by, I experienced a layoff a few months back. Thus, I suddenly find myself back in the job market and felt ill-prepared to deal with it until I got this book.

I went on a few interviews but had been nervous about certain questions such as; do I tell them how much I was making at my last job? Do I write a "thank you for interviewing" me letter after the interview? etc, etc...

This book covers all the topics that you are nervous about. Examples; what to say in a cover letter, interviewing, salary negotiations + much more. Included are some useful sample resumés and cover letters in different formats.

After reading this book, I feel much more confident that I'm handling my job hunting in a more professional manner. I would recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a job, or even if you have a job but hate your boss and want another one.

In general, I like the For Dummies clear and concise and easy to read format. While there are some For Dummies books that have very little substance, this is not one of them.

A job market author, I give this book five stars for its breadth. As it promises, it covers all its bases, helping the reader to organize the job search, prepare for an interview, hone a resume, and achieve myriad other successes in the process of finding that dream position. Job Hunting for Dummies could offer more in the way of up-to-date technological information--more on online job sites, posting your resume on the Internet, the proper protocol for emailing a potential employer, etc.--but perhaps more detailed tips will be provided in a later edition. Overall, Messmer achieves what he sets out to do: he gives the reader a solid starting point.

The New Job Hunter's "Bible"

"Job Hunting For Dummies" is an easy-to-read book that spells out the most effective ways to find a job and it does so in a clear and concise manner. Even in the best of times, the job market is an imbroglio that is difficult to navigate and that is why JHFD is a must-read for all job hunters.

Although job hunting is serious business, JHFD adeptly uses humor for comic relief as well as to emphasize a point. The section on actual resume' and job interview miscues is both funny and cautionary; readers would do well to take note.

Of all the job hunting books I've read, JHFD is clearly the best. While Richard Nelson Bolles' "What Color Is Your Parachute?" has been acclaimed as the job hunter's "bible," I know from experience that it is a tedious and often contradictory piece of work that has outlived its usefulness. Accordingly, job hunters should consider bypassing "Parachute" in favor of JHFD as it has more to offer its readers.

The Art of Belly Dancing (Miniature Editions Pocket Pack) was given to me as a keepsake from a friend who wanted me to always remember the years of dance that transformed my life in so many ways years ago.

No, you can't really expect to learn dance from it. But keeping it on your desk or coffee table does serve as a reminder to constantly seek out creative outlets that will always serve to transform your life!

It5's a beautifully designed package and -- most importantly -- it works for me!

An easy way to acquire "Zils"

I can't tell you how many bellydance DVDs I've gone through without zils and I really wanted to try them. There is something intoxicating about the sound and the rhythm and in a class setting they are fun to use or you can try them out with this book. I'd advise you find a bellydance video if you are trying to learn the moves because it is simply easier to experience the flowing beauty of this dance when you can observe a dancer in motion.

This kit provides you with the finger cymbals (zils) and a 32-page (really tiny) booklet about how you can learn a head circle, head slide, shoulder shimmy, rib slide, rib circle, belly roll, hip shimmy, hip circle, hip drop, snake hips, waist circles, snake arms and figure eights. The short section on finger cymbals explains how to put them on and then how to use them to "gallop" or "run." The advantage to having this small box is that you have a place to store your zils.

If you are looking for some fun Bellydance DVDs, you might enjoy the Veena & Neena Belldance Fitness for Beginners series. I especially enjoyed the Basic moves & Fat Burning Routine. Here are some to try if you want to try the DVDs:

I have to disagree with the previous reviewer, and ask whether or not that reviewer actually tried making the pattern. I have made three of these splendid bears, and they came out beautifully. This is a wonderful selection of different, appealing bear styles, you are sure to find many that you love and wish to make. The instructions are easy to follow. The ideas you get from this book will serve as a springboard to designing your own if you wish. An excellent book for anyone interested in making miniature bears!!

This book has quality color reproductions covering a broad spectrum of Morris's work. I love it. However, I wish Phaidon had come out with the same book at a much larger scale in hardcover. The large book "William Morris" edited by Linda Parry contains good visuals and a great collection of essays about him, so I would recommend that book instead if you are looking for something big and comprehensive. "Designs of William Morris" is very nice for the price, though, and makes a good introduction to his work.

This is a very nice book is you are into dolls. There are lots of pretty pictures and good directions. More than a third of it's content is devoted to making doll dresses. If you count the many pages included that cover the bride's accessories (shoes, bouquet, champayne glass, veil; that sort of thing), then I would state that the majority of the book is about the doll. There is very little on the settings for weddings.

I purchased this book because of an interest in the wedding celebration itself...(groom's dinner, bridal shower, differing wedding event styles for examples). All this book offers are two settings. One is a courtyard, the other a garden. Neither one of these sparse and juvenille dioramas proved to be inspirational from my point of view.

If you are looking for ideas for making roomboxes showcasing a wedding celebration, don't bother with this book.

The best miniatures book EVER !!!!!

This stunning book has absolutely EVERYTHING to help you create, not only the best looking dolls house dolls I have ever seen, but also a fabulous bridal salon, and totally awesome little accessories such as lingerie, floral arrangements and even wedding cakes that look good enough to eat!

What's makes this book better than every other doll-dressing book out there is that you can mix and match the dresses to suit whatever you want to do. You can even make them ball dresses if you want! The possibilities are endless.

I simply can't recommend this book more - the dresses are awe-inspiring and you don't even have to be a whizz with a needle and thread to make some of them as there are some gowns for total beginners (like me!) and others for those who are more experienced. My personal favourite is the totally divine Crystal Snowflake gown!

The bridal salon the author has made is simply gorgeous and I couldn't believe how easy it looks to put together - in fact, I can't wait to start!

This book is an absolute "must have" for anyone fanatical about weddings AND anyone who wants to dress dolls to make all your friend green with envy!!!

PS - The first review of this book is very misleading and extremely bizarre - to say the least. The book is CLEARLY for dolls house enthusiasts, and it in no way professes to give information on wedding celebrations. The setting is the totally awesome bridal salon which is plainly obvious to anyone who reads the book's contents BEFORE buying.

The new DeathKnell miniatures are extremely detailed. There are 60 miniatures to a set. The majority of the set are finely detailed. This series has a variety of character classes. The mini's I enjoyed were the Dwarf Artificer the detail is exquisite. The Beholder rare mini blew me away, along with the Grell mini. The miniature settings range from Temple of Elemental Evil to The new Ebberon setting. I would like to have seen more undead minis. The undead mini's I noticed in the set was a dwarf skeletal, and a hobgoblin zombie, again great detail. I could do without most of the rares in this series. I noticed a rare samari dwarf. Nothing rare about that mini. I agree with some in their reviews that if you were to buy a case of these boosters, it's very doubtful, and unlikely that you will get a set. I would just buy a case of these then hit ebay up for the ones you are missing to complete your set.

Of all the sets I've purchased, I have to admit this 1 is one of the more interesting ones. It comes with many large sized pieces and it isn't very unlikely you won't get at least one of them. Most of the pieces are relatively useful. Creatures such as Griffons, Beholders, vampire spawn, vampires, ettins, etc are very commonly liked creatures for use in game. Overall, this is one of the better deal packs I've seen as of far. However, I do wish they would release an Undead Pack. That would be interesting to see. ;)

The beholder is truly spectacular and several other miniatures in this set are "must haves" for any collection but distribute across Rare, Uncommon, and Common is even worse than earlier sets.

I look at these mainly through the eyes of RPG so if you play the miniatures warband games with these you may like this set better than I do. Alone this set is great, I like the Grell, the Couatl, Centaur Hero, and Flind Captain for their workmanship and variety they add to the game. The Uncommons are all interesting and appear in the distribution just about right.

Taken as a whole with what has already been released I get the feeling of Deja Vu. Again the number of dwarves available has increased with 4 more selections in this set while other player character races are only slightly represented. Mages and priests are present but still only add a few to your collection. While the Blue Dragon is large, as are several of the Rares and Commons, most of the dragons and large creatures represented are smaller that life when set in front of your party's miniatures.

The reason I only gave this set 3 stars is the distribution with continues to get worse with each set. The number of commons has fallen to 12 but they continue to make up 1/2 of a box. Rares have increased to 24 so you have to have perfect distribution to make get a full set out of two cases (doesn't happen) and you end up with 8 of each common (funny, THEY are perfectly distributed over 2 cases). It's getting where I don't care if I get all of the miniatures, I'll just pick out a few that I like and get them on ebay.

Over All: Very Good. Excellent construction and paint, Out of 2 cases I did not have any damaged or deficient pieces as I had in earlier sets. Would be happier if the commons were really the foes we commonly find in higher numbers and we didn't have to buy so many of them to get the better, rare, pieces.

When this book arrived after ordering it from Amazon (and being fooled by other reviews), my husband and I couldn't stop laughing--this is not an encyclopedia but a pocket sized dictionary (literally 2inches squared), with entries such as "ants"--the descriptions of anything are way too short to be of any merit, and if you really need to look up the definition of "ant" you are going to need a lot more help in your garden than this book can supply!!

The only reason it gets two stars instead of one is the shock-value I had when I received it--and a good laugh is always worth something.

In place you might consider Nancy Bubel's "Seed Starting Handbook"--lots of useful, easy-to-follow, and fairly detailed information on gardening.

This book has been around for many years and is one of the most valuable resources on organic gardening. True, it does not have beautiful glossy coloured pictures to capture one's attention, and you likely will not find it sitting around on someone's coffee table ready to stimulate conversation. However, what the book does offer is a wealth of information covering organic garden techniques, vegetable growing, organic fertilizers, fruit orchards, fruit and nut culture, herb gardening(my favourite section) and exotic tropical fruits (certainly not conducive to all climates, such as mine, if you are an outdoor gardener.) This is not a book the average person will sit down and read, cover to cover, in an evening - the length is over one thousand pages! However, if you are into organic gardening this is a must-have book. I particularly like the way the book is organized; considering the size of this monsterous volume, everything was easy to find. You are definitely getting a terrific value for your dollar, considering this is probably the only book you will ever need in respect to organic gardening.
