A delicious box of literary bon-bonsReview Date: 2004-08-27
Reading it is the adult equivalent of having your dad tell you stories in which the main character has your name. Each story speaks directly to you, its ideal reader. Some were written specifically to amuse Swanwick's wife, or son, or favorite editors, and these happy origins may contribute to the effect. It's not a children's book -- there's no sugar here, rather, an intoxicating, slightly tart, effervescence.
An entertaining collection of short storiesReview Date: 2004-03-27
While only a few stories here reach the quality of his longer fiction, Swanwick's creativity and sense of humor shine throughout.

I love this bookReview Date: 2008-01-30
The only problem I have is that I live in Australia and I don't have a clue where to get some of the wood and a few other things from as the suppliers are English or American. You get use to this.
As soon as I figure out where to get these things from I will have a go at making a few things.
Great instructions and color photos.Review Date: 2007-04-22

Excellent Resource for Customizing/Making Mini AccessoriesReview Date: 2002-02-16
Making and Customizing Doll House FittingsReview Date: 2000-10-17
Using this book, you can make the basic furniture, or customize ready-made pieces with gilt, paint, or upholstery. There are also directions for creating and re-creating accessories, such as lamps, mirrors, picture frames, etc. Or you can create smaller accessories, such as pots, bowls, or fruit.
If you like (or can do) needlework, draperies, rugs, cushions, and upholstery are possible.
Overall, the book provides a very good 'how-to' for various aspects of finishing and furnishing a dollhouse. With a little imagination, many of the ideas in this book can be adapted to your style of decor.

Excellent Book For Anyone Interested In Miniature PinschersReview Date: 2008-02-05
I had a two-fold reason for reading this book. I'm writing a novel where some of the characters have dogs (a Min Pin, an Italian Greyhound, and a Keeshond). So I'm doing research on the breed for my book. Currently we don't have a dog of our own. That might change, so I'm reading these books also to aid on which dog would be best for us (though odds are we'll go to the shelter and find a wonderful dog).
This is the best book I've read out of the dog books. Rose Radel is an interesting writer, and does a good job of keeping one's attention. In other words, I enjoyed reading the book just as a book.
The information is also very helpful and useful. It warned me that Min Pins are barkers, and to try to train them would make them less useful as a guard dog, which they are good at. I also learned a good tip that one should not call a dog (I think this advice is for all dogs) to discipline it, or your loyal friend won't come the next time you call.

Great Book. Keep 'em Comin.Review Date: 2008-01-07
My only complaint was that the author devoted a bit too much space to the crude one-off models from obscure builders like J Rettig and Enchantment Land Coachbuilders. I would much rather see multiple photos of one of Motor City's masterpieces than have it share space with some converted 1/43rd-ish toy covered in sloppy chrome foil. Yuck.
The only error I found: The 1964 Ford Country Squire on Page 64 is a plastic slot car from Ideal's Motorific line - not an AMT kit.
