I just got done reading this book. It is a very good "broad" overview of the world of miniature horses, but I am a little disappointed because on many of the aspects such as care, showing, conformation, etc. etc. the author instructs the reader to read "other" books that go into more detail. I feel that if you have never owned a horse before, and are interested in minis, it's a good book for you. But if you are like me, and already have knowledge of equine behavior, this may just be a simple review of what you already know. Definitly a good book for the novice, but the more experienced horse-person will not gain a whole lot.

This is a beautiful book that opened up the world of miniature orchids for me. The information provided on each species is concise yet more than thorough enough for my needs as a hobbyist. I love the vivid, full color pictures that the author generously uses to show the hundreds of miniature varieties. I also found many useful tips on cultivation and insect and disease control that are covered in easy to understand terms in the first couple of chapters. If you want to learn more about miniature orchids without having to wade through excessive botanical and scientific jargon, I think you will find this book to be very helpful.

I decided to get this book to help me understand my new Min Pin. It has great information, including behavior, obedience, nutrition and grooming. It's hard to read, though, because the pages are printed out of order. One chapter will abruptly stop, then pick up a few pages down (after another chapter has started). It makes it confusing and hard to follow. I'm very surprised that a publisher would have been so careless as to put pages out of order like this.

I've had a copy of this book on my dog book shelf for many years. Each new puppy buyer is encouraged to get a copy of this book prior to picking up their new dog. I often have extra copies for my new owners.

A small but very complete reference manual that covers most of the basics and then some. I would encourage anyone new to the breed to pick up a copy. You'll find yourself reviewing chapters throughout your dogs lifetime.

Miniature Pinscher by Caroline Coile has proven to be a very comprehensive book on this mighty dog. This book cover topics such as: history, how to pick a min pin, raise it, understand it, train it, No-No's, how to take care of its skin and its problems, how to choose a vet, preventive medicine, genetics, and even a Min Pin Nomenclature! This book has a special chapter on "Understanding the Min Pin Mind" which I find very helpful. Vision, Olfaction, Taste, Hearing and Pain are briefly yet accurately covered here. In addition to its friendly language, 34 color photographs + illustrations will help you know what you really need to know about the mighty Miniature Pinschers. Highly Recommendable.

Altamente recomendable.

While this isn't an exhaustive book on my favorite little bundle of energy...it's really quite good for the size and price. I got this book after my son brought home a mini-pin in need of a family.

While deciding if this little (9 pound) angelic looking creature would be suited for our family it was a good book for an overview on common health problems (some skin problems that she has had, som knee problems that she has not had)... some behavioral issues with other dogs (that she has had) and that they are one person dogs (which she hasn't had)...that they are very much the *clown* (which she very much is :). Overall...my point is...the book for it's small size and and low price was a very good intro to my new family pet.

I would suggest buying this book prior to buying the dog. It's always better to know if a dog is suited to you before you make a 15 year committment.

Whether you sew doll clothes or Victorian costumes, this book is the best resource to have! It covers the entire Victorian era, describing the chosen costumes in great detail. It discusses the general shapes of each period, what undergarments were used, what fabrics were popular, what details to add, what accessories to use.

There is a wonderful section on handsewing, showing you how to use period sewing techniques, plus sewing specific to the Victorian period, such as piping. Another section shows you how to finish your seams -- French seams, flat felling, etc. The patterns are clear and easy to size up or down. The diagrams are excellent, clearly showing you each step.

I make oaak fashion dolls, and sew Victorian costume for myself, and I find myself opening this book at some point during every project!

This is the pattern book I have needed for years!

I have now tried most of the patterns in this wonderful book, and even with my limited sewing skills, I have been very pleased with my results. I have particularly enjoyed the tips for constructing clothes without patterns. The simple smock dress idea works well for my Ginnys, as well as for my composition baby dolls and small antique bisque dolls. I'm looking forward to learning to make hats and purses. I have a stack of old leather gloves just waiting to be made into the darling shoes pictured in the last chapter of the book.

The BEST book on sewing doll clothes on the market!

The book is a must-have for anyone wanting to sew reproduction clothing for dolls.  This book includes wonderful color plates of the antique dolls chosen for the study.   You can clearly see every detail of the wardrobe.   There are many underwear items included : corsets, hoops, bustles, etc.   There is a large detailed explaination of each dress, listed by the color plate.   Then, there is a large section which not only tells you how to sew a duplicate of the original, but which includes much useful information about the period of time the dress represents.  Finally, there is a wonderful bibliography and an excellent section on how to hand sew the items, carefully detailing descriptions of each stitch used.

It is a wonderful reference for the doll collector who is interested in recreating historically correct clothes for china or bisque dolls. The range of styles in broad, and the instructions are clear even for the novice at sewing. Without question, this is one of the finest books on this subject that it is possible to find. Whether you've got sisters or not, this over sized set of non-fiction essays and photos of 35 sets of sisters (some pairs, some trios) is sure to hold your interest. It's fascinating to read the variances between behaviors of sisters still in their teens (they don't get along) and sisters well into adulthood--they're tight as knots.

It's a terrific 131 page read, a great gift for your sister (if you have one), or a fun way to spend an hour if you happen across a copy on someone's coffee table, as I did.

This is my favorite set in the Star Wars miniature series because it contains only figures from the original trilogy. You don't have to worry about getting expanded universe fluff. You'll know every one of the characters you'll pull out of this box. If you'd like to play a Star Wars miniatures game with characters you'll actually recognize, this is the set to invest in.

A really fun game. Short of like playing Dungeons and Dragons, but with pre-made Star Wars Characters with special abilities. The more you collect, the more you can combine them into special teams for special operations. "Rebel Storm" is just one of the many expansion modules available. You have other that are still in print like, "Champions of the Force", "Endor", and "Universe" Others that are out of print "Revenge of the Sith", and "Clone Strike". Soon to be released in September 2006 is "Bounty Hunters". Have fun!

Good game system/bad collectible format
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-06-11
Star Wars is a great setting for a miniatures game, and this miniatures game system from Wizards does a pretty good job of exploiting that possibility. Now you can fight out some of those skirmishes from the movies and catch all that action with Luke, Leia, Han, Vader with some decently sculpted and painted plastic miniatures. The game system is good - solid and easy enough that you can get playing fairly quickly - if a tad simplistic.

Now available again, these boosters will let you flesh out your Rebellion Era armies. You'll need several (along with the starter set) in order to play, and many more in order to play more interesting games. In each booster you will get seven figures: one rare/very rare, two uncommons and four commons. Unfortunately, you won't know what figures you'll be getting, making it harder to build those stormtrooper squads or get the named characters you are most interested in having. That's the real problem with the Star Wars miniatures line - the collectible format for purchasing the figures. It a word, it stinks. It's certainly no help that all of the unique, named characters from the movies, the figures you would most want to play with, are all rare or very rare, and thus acquired slowly and randomly, one per booster. It doesn't help that with the Rebel Storm set, Wizards divided the 60 figure set equally between the Imperial, Rebel and Fringe factions. The latter really has only a few figures of interest, so your booster may well include a mini or two that you won't recognize from the movies.

These boosters are not a standalone game - you'll need a Rebel Storm starter for the rules and a map in order to play. The "Rebel Storm Ultimate Missions" book helps, too, by providing scenarios from the movies and a double-sided map.

Great game! Lots of fun for the Star Wars Fan!

Star Wars "Rebel Storm" is the very first set for the Star Wars miniatures game. There are 60 different pre-painted figures in the set, and each booster includes seven random figures (including one rare OR very rare figure). The best thing about this set is that it the figures are based almost exclusively on the original trilogy. Thus, you will have seen all but a couple of them in those movies.

The game itself very fun (definitely one of my favorites). It is similar to the D&D minis game in many ways, so if you like that game, you are sure to also like this game as well. But there are also enough differences to the two games to keep it interesting. Further, there are enough different figures in this set (each with its own stats, special abilities, commander effects, and/or force points) that you will never have to play the same game twice. Several expansion sets have also been released to add even more variety to the game. Finally, the minis can also be used with the Star Wars RPG (though Unlike the D&D minis game, the stats cards for the Star Wars minis game do not include info for the RPG version of the game -- but many of these stats are available elsewhere).

In sum, I love this game, and if you love Star Wars and/or gaming, I think it's definitely worth a try. Hope this helps!

ADDENDUM: (Please note that I include this addendum at the end of all my Star Wars minis reviews, so if you've read it before, there is no need to read it again.) If you want to play the Star Wars minis game as it was designed to be played, it is best to have at least one starter (each starter comes with game instructions, a map, a D20, terrain tiles that are very helpful and add great variety to the game, and more). I like the Rebel Storm Starter the best because it's from the classic era/trilogy, but the Clone Strike and Revenge of the Sith starters from the newer movies will also work. If you don't want to invest in a starter, you can also get one of the three "Ultimate Missions" books, as each comes with a double sided map and a few smaller terrain tiles (again, I like the Rebel Strom Ultimate Missions book the best because it is also from the classic era/trilogy). Or, you can buy the "Attack on Endor" scenario pack, which comes with TWO double sided maps (in addition to a scaled AT-ST that is fully usable in play). The main point here is that you'll need some type of map/grid. If you don't want to buy a Star Wars one, generic ones are also available at most gaming stores (you can use your imagination to set the scene, or draw terrain with an erasable marker right on the grid). Of course, the minis are also useful for the roleplaying game (RPG) -- in which case you may not need a starter or map, but will likely need the "Core Rulebook" instead (for those interested in the Star Wars RPG Core Rulebook, please see my review of the recently released "Saga Edition"). Finally, the minis are just fun to collect for those who like all things Star Wars!

I had never thought of decorating my kitchen and bathrooms with live plantings, and wow, what an improvement! I am buying copies for my friends and family. This makes a wonderful housewarming gift. Don't miss it!

This is a very narrow topic. By definition these are gardens that are very limited in size and scope. Having said that, i was still very disappointed in this book. It doesn't take much shopping around, thumbing through other books and checking the Internet to find dozens of good ideas for tabletop gardens. And any garden writer worth her (or his) salt can come up with "how to do it" and "plants to choose" text to make the ideas a practicality. So why the paucity of ideas? Why are we treated, on pages 52 and 53, to a two-page close-up of gravel?

Don't waste any time on this very ordinary book about ordinary plants in ordinary containers.

Striking, simple and complete

This striking book is an excellent choice for those of you who simply can't stop gardening, no matter what the season or location. While apartment dwellers will especially benefit from the tabletop gardens, everyone could find a place in their home for these beautiful examples. Everything from dry gardens to bogs is covered. Each example includes information on lighting, water, temperature requirements and average life span.

I have never had much success with indoor plants, but I am tempted to try out a few of these, including the ones growing simple grasses in pretty containers.

This book is definitely useful when collecting Wade miniatures. There are many clear pictures with lots of information. The only thing is that they do not clearly specify the difference from the boxed whimsies and the ones that came in the Rose Tea. They could be a bit clearer on that issue. Other than that, I think this book is a must have if you are interested in Wade.

The book 'Wade Miniatures' (2007) by Diane Baker is a wonderful first book to have if you are starting to collect Wade Miniature Figurines. The color photos are so true to life. Ms Baker includes some history of Wade of England and a current price guide for the figurines.
Most of the figurines included in the book start in the 1950's and continue up to the present. The Wade factory in England however, started out making porcelain pieces in 1810.
Everyone remembers the Red Rose Tea Miniatures that were included in the Red Rose Tea boxes. Those little Miniatures currently range in value from $5.00 to about $20.00 - $30.00. More exquisite pieces can range in value from $50.00 to over $400.00. There is a price range for every level of collector.
I had an older copy of her book from the Library. However, when the 2007 edition came out, I just had to have it as a handy reference guide.
As a novice collector, or for that matter, as an amateur collector, you will find this book to be an invaluable reference guide!
Happy collecting!!

This is a delightful little tome that every artist and wanna be artist would enjoy. Only about the size of a small paperback, but the book is chucky jam full of wonderful art. Mickey, that ever loving mouse as portrayed by the world's best artists. My favorite is Andy Warhol's painting. I like Mark Newgarden's drawing of Mickey on line paper and I also like Ben Verkaaik's oil on wood of Mickey. Heck I like 'em all. I'm a huge Mickey and Disney fan and if that description fits you, you'll enjoy this book.

Most of the illustrations are rather weak interpretations of the mouse. There are, however, several excellent ones especially "Vincent Van Goghs to Disneyland" by Bob Buccella
