Miniature Books

I used the third edition so much that I rushed to get the 4th edition at a fair and was lucky to get Pat to sign my copy. There are sections on true whimsies along with earlier pieces, year figures, collectors club figures, pipe bowls, pin trays etc. etc. Each piece has a black and white photo and a guide price in £UK, $US and $Canadian. The bible for all Whimsie collectors.

Pictures of basicly all of them. Lots of descriptions and history too. And a price guide. Love this book and is worth the money. Lots of color pictures, but most are black and white.

Now I know what you are thinking "Well it just looks like 40k" and there are similarities but I asure you that Warmachine is a whole different beast. The main thing I will say is that it is very VERY simple opposed to 40k. There are 2 phases of combat: Maintenance and Activation. Maintenance is just moving your focus ( magic points ) and planning. Activation is everything else ( movement, attacking, using focus, spells, etc ).

Also a big thing with me, I live on a small budget and this is MUCH cheaper than 40k. I just bought this and a starter pack ( a battlegroup for one of the factions ) which is essentially a little under a 400pt army for about $60. Any new rule that's added for a certain unit comes WITH the unit when you buy it. All the models come with a card with their stats and abilities on it.

This game is really easy to just pick up and play. The backstories for the factions are all very well written and do a good job in submerging you into the world. So like the book says, "Play like you got a pair" Pick it up, buy a battlegroup, and play it...you'll love it.

Someone left a towelette from this line on my desk so I had to research where I could get more. These are very funny products to either give to someone, or keep a really straight face and use them in front of someone else, pretending you think they work.

This is certainly the best Book on Wayang Golek, the Puppet Theater of Sunda (West-Java) published to date. It is really the first Source Book ever: Well organized, concise, with many wonderful photographs and drawings. The only other Books written on Wayang Golek are neither avaiable nor reliable. Of particular interest to me was the list of Wayang Golek Puppets arranged on stage and the arrangement of a Set according to affiliation. The categorization of Puppets may be considered arbitrary by some, but is really well thought out, useful, and a first attempt as such. Buurman categorizes the Puppets into Series primarily according to Facial Types and Head Dress. The Family Trees and the large Glossary contain some errors, but are both usable. I hope that Oxford University Press will decide to reprint this excellent Book.

A Short Story about the Book: I first saw this Book in Bogor in the early 90's, where a Puppetmaker showed it to me in Dutch. I immediately procured it in English, and from then on we used the Categoriztion used by Buurman for the ordering of Puppets. In that way I commisioned several hundred Wayang Golek Puppets to be made for me, and there was never a misunderstanding on which type was meant.

Hide him around the house during St. Pattys day or week. The kids had a blast finding him and can't wait until he returns on March 17th.

I appreciate what the Kalmus press has done to give helpful footnotes for the ornamentation and the score layout is very clean and spaced well. A good "easy" read, that is relatively easy...if you know the pieces in this book you'll know what I'm talking about!

I have never fallen in love with a book so fast! (Well, it only takes 45 minutes to read it AND look at all the exquisite little cat pictures.) Fun to see if your very own cat is hiding somewhere in those pages; I found mine on the cover, fluffy orange tail and all.

Although this is a children's book, this is a great book for people of all ages. It shows how there is no one insignificant in this world and that everyone has a purpose. As Patches reflects on the accomplishments of his variety of animal friends, he wonders about his purpose. Katie reminds him of how very special he is. It is one of those encouraging stories that one never tires of hearing and can be read over and over. A child will be entertained, and those who are older will be reminded of how valuable they are and that they do have a purpose. It is also beautifully illustrated. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

This bilingual collection of clever sayings from Latin America is a delight! It's wise, funny, and enlightening. Buy this for anyone traveling to Central or Latin America! It's a joy.
