This fascinating book contains a selection excerpted from 2 early 19th century British books that contained wonderful illustrations of Chinese people (one by William Alexander and the other by Major George Henry Mason). The wonderfully detailed illustrations of people in different professions and activities were accompanied by short descriptions. In this small-format book, 44 of the illustrations have been reprinted with the text description on the facing page. The people shown include such diverse activities as "The Distiller", "A Man Striking a Small Gong During an Eclipse" and "A Mandarin in His Court Dress". Not only does this book introduce the reader to people and dress of Qing Dynasty China, but the entertaining and often dated descriptions allow you to see them through the eyes of a early 19th century Westerner. Although this is not a book that you sit down and read cover to cover, it is a great one to pick up and leaf through a few pages periodically.

My thirteen year old used this book and it helped her train her mini. She took Reserved Grand Champion in obstacles at our county fair this summer.

What a delight it was to read the story and say, "But this was exactly what I wanted when I was a child!" I wanted my little Skipper doll to comb her hair; I wanted my little plastic farm animals to baa and moo on top of the dining table. If I had toy soldiers like in the story, I'd love for them to do little parades and to tell me tales of campaigns in Africa. I wanted my toys to surprise me, speak to me, have ideas of their own!

A fascinating read! I took this book with me everywhere I went for a week until I had digested it all! Crammed with useful and interesting tips and facts, and unlike other books in its field, contained a bulk of information that I had not come across before. I like how every time I pick up this guide I read further towards understanding the facts a little more. You can read it in any order you like, you don't have to go from cover to cover. A really useful little book, a super reference guide, that will stay at the front of my bookcase!

This is a nica, small book of Carnap. It may be interesting for the layman, since it is not so technical. It is mainly about physicalism: the physical reduction of psychology to physics, which is closelly related to behaviourism.
All this is put in the usual framework of logical positivistic views from the 30's.

This is a mini book full of stories, Christmas songs and activities to do and things to make for Christmas. The Christmas Treasury is good for age 4 and older. It's a cute, colorful, beautifully illustrated collection for little ones. It has The Christmas Story, The Story of Saint Nicholas, Santa Claus, A Visit from Saint Nicholas, The Story of Cinderella going to the Christmas ball, The Story of the Nutcracker, The Little Fir Tree, and Christmas Traditions. Children enjoy hearing these stories read to them and making things for Christmas. Fun book.

One of the few books ever published on the subject. This book features over 100 pages of detailed (yet easy to follow) text, illustrations, photos and diagrams on the art/craft of ventriloquism. Great for beginners (of any age) and for those who already some intermediate skills in the craft.

I am a theater teacher. I borrowed this book from the school library and kept it in my room to browse through until it was stolen. The pictures in the book are absolutely gorgeous and feature famous bunraku shows and the artistry behind them: the puppet making, the puppeteers, the musicians, etc. The text is very informative. Those who read/own this book will gain a greater appreciation of both Bunraku puppets and the Japanese artist.
