Excellent for new painters, worthwhile for the experiencedReview Date: 2008-11-05
If you are interested in painting fantasy or scifi miniatures, the technique will definitely work but is fairly different from current styles as it makes little to no use of washes or glazes. Having no access to Foundry paints, I'm trying it with other brands (GW, Vallejo).
The book itself is of excellent production quality; the images are clear and rich in detail, the writing well done (I saw one typo in the entire book) and the examples helpful. It's a pleasure to read and browse through.
My criticisms of the book center mostly around a few secondary areas: brush maintenance, basing and terrain construction. The book doesn't discuss how to condition brush hairs, and I dislike the Foundry basing style as being too drab. Terrain construction is simply too complex of a topic to tack on and belongs in a different book.

The BEST so far!!!Review Date: 2004-02-03
This autobiography may be Tada's best work to dateReview Date: 2004-06-27
The basics of Tada's life are well-known in Christian circles. Reared in a Christian home, Joni Eareckson was planning to enter Western Maryland College in the fall of 1967. But a trip to a Chesapeake Bay beach in July of that year permanently changed her life. A "simple" dive went wrong, and Joni ended up paralyzed from the neck down, confined to a wheelchair for life. In the following decade, Christians in America would become familiar with the once-unknown young woman who had learned to draw and paint with her mouth and was steadily producing a successful line of artwork sold in Christian stores. Her story was told in print and on film, and her voice later became a mainstay on Christian radio. In the intervening years, she has become an advocate for the disabled, not only in the United States but also around the world.
In no previous book has Joni Eareckson --- now married to Ken Tada --- been quite so transparent and open about the highs and lows of her relationship with God, particularly in the years immediately following the accident but also amid the day-to-day frustrations that come with being dependent upon others for the basic necessities of life. Through it all --- through the extraordinary accomplishments of someone who at one time had every reason to give up on life --- you get the sense that many of Tada's inner struggles are very ordinary, very human, and therefore very easy for others to relate to.
Tada writes about social issues, such as her firsthand experience with oppression in former communist countries, with as much sensitivity as she writes about highly personal issues, like her disappointment and sorrow after learning that she was infertile. She seamlessly intersperses detailed accounts of her many international trips with loving stories about her close-knit family, her circle of friends, and her marriage to Ken. Especially poignant are passages relating to the deaths of her mother and father.
Throughout, of course, the focus always returns to Tada's relationship with God and the subtle irony inherent in the subtitle, "A Lifetime of Walking with Jesus." Even from her wheelchair, Tada "walks" with God. She writes, "Ah, this is the God I love. The Center, the Peacemaker, the Passport to adventure, the Joyride, and the Answer to all our deepest longings. The answer to all our fears, Man of Sorrows and Lord of Joy, always permitting what he hates, to accomplish something he loves...There are more important things in life than walking."
Fans of Joni Eareckson Tada's previous books will not be disappointed with this one. It's a beautifully written tribute to the love of God as seen through the life of one woman who found freedom and joy in Christ in the midst of what another might consider a cruel confinement.
IrresistibleReview Date: 2003-10-31
Since her first book detailing her accident, I have purchased every one since and given many as gifts. I love them all but this one is the most revealing.
The God I Love, is wonderful. I relate to Joni and her horse accomplishments and her life before the accident. She is an incredible writer. Now in this book, she fills us in on her entire life up to the present. There are several surprises. Her family, her friends, her travels thruout the world, how she deals with her physical condition, and what makes her joyful, are all here, written so beautifully and so sincerely.
I recommend this book to everyone - young and old - no matter what your religious affiliation - this book is about a life well lived despite being confined to a wheelchair because this talented intelligent woman reached out to God.

A Christian heroineReview Date: 2005-06-11
Today, besides being an author, artist, and advocate for the disabled, Joni Eareckson Tada is an outspoken opponent of embryonic stem cell research. It's too bad the general public has not heard as much from her as they did from the late Christopher Reeve (as much as I respected his and his wife's courage.)
Joni Eareckson Tada is a modern Christian heroine.

Excellent deck.Review Date: 2008-02-17
Except for a few cards, the meanings are right there. There's a page of red paper with the card positions for readings right there, so it's like having a tutor guide you. It's really quite simplified. The readings produced are quite remarkable.
A mini guide book gives additional help. If you're looking for a little fun for yourself or to do with friends, this is a little money well spent.

Very Creepily Fun Deck, hehe!Review Date: 2006-04-11
This deck is interesting. I thought it'd just be your run-of-the-mill oracle, but it is actually rather interesting. Besides the odd campy (but fun) look to it, which is unique, it also has a very dramatic, campy feel, but with room for interpretation (though surprisingly specific for being simply keywords).
Here's a funny example: Today I said "Give me some good news!" half-jokingly, and I pulled one card. The "Good News" card!!! Wowza. That was odd.
I say it's worth a look even though on occasion the meanings are a bit hard to use in traditional tarot spreads. I think it's better for smaller spreads or for a single card pull, but I also don't have much practice with this particular deck, so that could be the issue as well.
Two thumbs up for the dramatic black/white and red Answer Deck of the ages! :)
Oh yes!Review Date: 2005-09-08
I did two readings on my husband and darn near fell out of my kitchen chair.
I recommend this deck to anyone. Tarot cards are a nice fall back {for indepth clarity} when doing a reading using The Answer Cards too!
Its money well spent!
Although, instead of paying full price at a pricey book store, I should have followed my instints to go to Amazon.com to make my purchase! LOL!

Kermit, the early yearsReview Date: 2008-03-24
This is the first (and only, as far as I am aware) book to contain Henson's early sketches and artwork, and any fan of the Muppets is likely to find this fascinating. It is possible, through these pictures, to see how many of the Muppets have evolved. For example, in Henson's original sketches, Oscar the Grouch was purple with a long, skinny neck, a far cry from the green monster who now appears on "Sesame Street". Furthermore, in spite of the fact that I wish there was less text and more pictures, I did find the text to be of interest when I finally sat down and read it.
Hopefully, there will one day be a second book, featuring more of Henson's artwork. However, until then, this is all that is available and provided that you are aware of the limitations of this book, you shouldn't be too disappointed.

Jim Henson's Designs and Doodles is the #1 Henson book!Review Date: 2001-04-07
The wonderful new long awaited book, Jim Henson's Desings and Doodles is almost a museum on paper. It shows Jim's best artwork, from storyboards, to puppet desingns, even a very early Kermit sketch. The book also features a never before seen look at the never produced special, "Johnny Carson and The Muppet Machine" which was to be a physcedelic trip into the 1960's. The artwork is very detailed, and even has a stone carving of Ed Macmahon! The book also shows some of his early work, including silkscreen images of meloncholy (which was inspired by the death of his brother , Paul) and concert posters and crazy characters who were soon to be Frackles!
One of the best parts of the book is Henson 's early commercial storyboards, which feature the two popular commercial Muppets ,Wilkins and Wontkins, Hansel and Gretel Muppets, and Kermit, The Snerfs and Rowlf (the IDEAL doll ad where Kermit sings the unfamilliar jingle"Oh buy us, oh buy us, oh buy us we beg! If you do not buy us, we'll bite you in the leg!!!) . Early drawings of the La Choy Dragon, and Nutty Bird(Royal Crown soda ads, precursor to Big Bird) are also featured.
The book brings us for the first time many illustrations of show ideas that never made it to the small screen. The Zoocus (The Zoo Circus), The Entertainers, and Martian Landing are all examples shown by illustrations from Jim's fertile imagination. The Zoocus was to be a show full of new Muppets such as Mr. Ripple and Carbourator Jones and had a guest star on each show (Sound like TMS to you?). The show would be a variety but would mostly ,as shown in Henson's drawings,be a talk show with the guest, where the Muppets would lounge behind large alters and other sets. The Entertainer was to be a show about a travelling vaudevillian show where Muppet men (and a can can girl) would sing popular songs at the time. This was also to be a Variety type show. Martian Landing would feature Muppet Koosebaine like creatures that would swap jokes and do skits on another planet. It was to be a Live variety show. It ashame these didn't get aired.
This book has so much I haven't mentioned yet, (I don't want to spoil it!) and it is definetly worth every penny. By far, one of my favs. among a long line of Muppet Books. Enjoy!
Facinating collection of work from Jim HensonReview Date: 2005-03-20
This is sort of an odd book for me to have. I don't collect books based on movies or TV shows. But this one doesn't really fall into that category at all. It's more of an artist's diary and sketchbook. I enjoy just paging through it to look at all of the wonderous things Jim Henson imagined. His work seems to have something "odd" to it that I can somehow connect with and be fascinated by it.
I think anyone who has enjoyed Jim Henson's productions will probably enjoy looking through this book. It's an adventure to page through time after time.

We haven't been disappointed. The illustrations are very clear, and very much to scale. I love having clothing patterns for the dolls available- they're worthwhile even if you never make one of the dolls. The clear directions make it almost easy to make a face that actually looks like a face. The supplies lists are very straightforward and doesn't include anything you can't easily pick up at your local craft supply stores.
I highly recommend this book, even for children. A 6 yo is a little young to be able to carry out the project on her own, but working together with an adult is very possible.
