I enjoy all of Matt Christopher's books especially his "Sport Bio" ones. I checked out this grand book at the public libary. "At The Plate With Mark McGwire" is a great book because it's all the way Matt Christopher writes, the way he wrote this book was especially GREAT. The way Matt Christopher wrote when McGwire was little to when he was a slugger,when he "stunk", and much more.I really hope people of all ages read about such a star.

Hammans bridge career is quite interesting. I didn't know that he had been in the Bermuda Bowl before the Aces. Reading about some of the Aces training methods (the group criticism, and allocation charges for misplays) was interesting. There are plenty of funny stories thrown in.
Lots of interesting hands. Certainly a good biography.

But for me, there was a lot more. Hamman is famous for not getting rattled and putting bad hands behind him. There was Hammans discussion of certain conventions, and what he percieves as negative trends in Bridge.

Of all the bridge biographies I've read, I liked this the best.

This book written by Mr. Longoria is a unique sports narrative which gives any sports fan another aspect on the history of professional football. Aptly entitled "Athletes Remembered," Mr. Longoria documents the stories of the Latino athletes in a positive and very interesting style. I personally was unfamiliar with many of these athletes; however, I enjoyed reading their stories and learning about these talented players. My professional background is education and I firmly believe that this book would be a tremendous reading experience, not only for Latino children, but for children from all ethinic backgrounds. While Latino children will more readly identify with these athletes, they are really establishing role models for all children, regardless of their ethnicity.

I really appreciate what mark stang does. Culling from wire photos, collectors and the hall of fame, Stang builds a great photo history of players and teams. He manages to focus on players who are not famous, and photos not often seen. His books are invaluable to anyone who collects vintage baseball material.

I was surprised to see this listing on Amazon. This book was never in print. This is my great-great grandfather's memoirs. J.J. McCloskey was an actor, playwright and very interesting person. He wrote this 200 page memoir in the early 1900s. As far as I know there is an original copy that with my father's cousin and the carbon copy (my father's copy). My father sent a copy to the New York Public Library and to the University of Pennsylvania. It was great fun to read as I began my genealogical research (in 2003) of my very interesting New York family.

I have heard this story many times in movies and books - but this is the accurate full-telling of well-researched facts. Very interesting and educational. A must for any Yankee or Ruth fan.

My grandfather Babe Ruth loved children! I know that he would have encouraged children to read this. He believed "baseball is the greatest game in the world and every kid should play it". He also believed, " Everyone should do their best and follow their dreams". He certainly did! It is about friendship and sharing. The story is told in a very imaginative, fun & positve way! It's about a 10 year old girl who is pitching for the Yankees, but dreams of being a a ballet dancer and her best friend is Babe Ruth. I suggest it for girls as well as boys! In fact the first time I saw it, I was appearing at a little league game, and a young boy asked me to autograph it for him. I immediately fell in love with the title, and the illustations looked outstanding! I love how Babe was drawn! Mr. Shortt capured his fun-loving spirit well! I give my blessings!! Enjoy!

this book was soo good! i loved it! the pictures are awesome, and i learned a lot about the best group in the world-- b'witched!

This is a great romp through the alternative side of the world's favourite sport. It's "an eclectic collection of amazing true stories from the world of football, revealing the bizarre and hilarious reality behind the beautiful game." That's football, or soccer here in the US. (There is actually a great section explaining how the original US soccer league was closed down by worried baseball owners!) There are chapters on sex, drugs, violence, music and movies, and more. You'll also be able to find the answer to these questions:

Who is the former top-flight footballer now living as a fully post-op transsexual?
What possessed a World Cup superstar to kidnap 120 Cameroonian pygmies?
Which ex-goalkeeper genuinely believes he is the Son of God?

If you like soccer/football, then this book is for you. It could also make those who don;t like football change their minds! Recommended - and also the UK's Independent newspaper recently named it one of the sports books of the year.

Not knowing much about Florence, I purchased the Whitehot Audio Guide and visited their suggested sites. Everyone was magnificent and the audio descriptions were superb. The background music was enjoyable and timely. It gave my wife and I a moment to reflect upon and better appreciate what we had just seen before moving on to the next item. We particularly enjoyed the Baptistery and the Ghiberti's fabulous Gates of Paradise
