The Complete Book of Man to Man Offense is exactly what it promises to be...complete!

The first three chapters of the book take the reader through a series of steps which help to identify the factors that determine what kind of offense will make a team successful. These are perhaps the three most important chapters of the book as they help the reader understand the basic principles of team offense where other books simply swamp the reader with a series of x's and o's.

The chapters that follow delve into the famous UCLA offense (with some of coach Kresse's own adaptations) the flex plus, and motion offenses. A variety of set plays and options are also discussed with an emphasis on the teaching points to consider.

Special situations are also covered, proposing several options for creating three-point shots as well as inbounding the ball. In each case the explanations are written with a clarity that allows the reader to gain a greater understanding of offensive basketball.

Having read the book it becomes obvious why coach Kresse has lead the programme at the College of Charleston to success. He is a great teacher of the game! If you are a coach this book deserves a place in your library.

Don Kirkendall is a doc that really has "been there and done that." This book provides super information, based on studies and years of experience from the youth to national team level on what comprises soccer fitness, how to improve it, and how to test for it. The section on injury prevention alone is worth the cover price. This is a great way for club and high school coaches, in particular, to get up to date with the latest in exercise physiology as it relates to soccer. It's a much more user friendly book than Jens Bangsbo's excellent, but way down in the physiological weeds, book.

Homer Smith is well known and respected as an offensive guru and innovative thinker. What he has given coaches with "The Complete Handbook of Clock Management," however, may be the single most important work he has ever written on the great game of football.

Coach Smith lays out his system of clock managment for coaches at all levels. Although he assumes that playcalling will be done from a press box, his methods are applicable to every level of the game, from youth football to the NFL.

Every facet of clock management, whether behind or ahead, is covered in detail. His systematic approach to the problem involves taking stock, choosing tools, and getting the difficult job of clock management done right.

Highest recommendation.

In this book, everything is right to the point. Coach McGraw writes the book like you are part of the team. You are immediatly introduced to the Notre Dame Women's Basketball team. Later in the book, you meet her son, Murphy, her husband, Matt, and her assistant coaches. She first starts by explaining roles and explaining what each role is. These roles can be in life, at work, or on any athletic field. As the book progress, she starts to get more intense. She takes you through getting good team chemistry, the grueling practices, playing games, and she talks about the recruiting process.

Courting Succes is a book that I believe everyone should read. It is the kind of book that shows you every detail of what really goes into being a winning college program. If you are a basketball freak, you will love this book. However, there are a lot of moments that Coach McGraw slows down the tempo of the book and teaches you a life lesson. When I read this book it got me fired up, and I felt like I was playing in the big game, I was there, feeling the pressure and hearing the crowd. This book is a pure adrenalin rush form the moment you read the first page.

Create Your Ideal Body

I read the book "Create Your Ideal Body" this summer. It is an easy, natural way to lose weight by following Terri Levine's simple steps. I quickly and easily noticed myself listening to what my body really wanted in a much different way. When I thought I wanted something sweet and I asked if I wanted the usual cookie, the answer was often, not really. I began substituting macadamia nuts and found I was so much more satisfied both in terms of sweetness as well as substance.
I hadn't realized I was that much thinner until people started commenting that they saw I'd lost weight. One of my friend keeps asking me how I can eat so much when she is starving herself on all the latest diets. My reply is always, I eat a lot, but I am eating in a way that is more natural for me. By being aware of what I am eating and being intentional about my overall health, I am making healthier choices. When I thought about it-and checked the scale - indeed I had lost 10 pounds in under 3 months without giving anything up!

"The issue of how athletes can be assessed as a basis for performance management and enhancement is a crucial one for contemporary sport psychology. More basically, assessment for performance management and enhancement in sport is an area where cogent theory, practical concepts, effective methods, and technically defensible measurement procedures are needed. Roland Carlstedt's seminal work provides valuable information that helps fill these gaps. Based on a solid theoretical model of critical moments during competition, coupled with a clear and internally consistent conceptual and operational framework, and using persuasive empirical research from psychology and other areas, including results of his award winning dissertation, Dr. Carlstedt demonstrates substantial relationships between psychological characteristics and performance outcomes in a range of athletes. His work provides guidance for sport psychology researchers and practitioners as well as others involved in human performance at all levels. "The material in this book can help shape the larger knowledge base of sport psychology for years to come."

--Charles A. Maher, Psy.D. Professor of Psychology Rutgers University, Sport Psychologist, Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Browns

Why do some professional athletes tend to "deliver" in critical situations, while others are less dependable? Dr. Carlstedt's Mind-Body Model of Sport Performance focuses on this well known and vexing performance difference between comparably talented highly-skilled athletes. He traces these differences to certain basic personality characteristics and their interplay. Depending on their strength and configuration, these general personal propensities may play either a facilitative or counterproductive (but potentially modifiable) role. Carlstedt's model is obviously of great relevance to Sport Psychologists. Because of its plausibility as well as its amenability to empirical scrutiny and continuing development, it also merits the attention of a wider readership. It has the potential for evolving into a general model for understanding consistent excellence in response to challenge.

--Auke Tellegen, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology, Emeritus, University of Minnesota, Personality Psychologist and Behavioral Geneticist

Methodologically rigorous in its approach , Dr. Carlstedt offers a thoroughly innovative perspective on the field of Sport Psychology in this new book. His model of peak performance ambitiously and successfully integrates a wealth of physiological, psychological, and cognitive neuroscience data to forcefully make the case that athletic performance can not only be studied in a controlled fashion, but can be improved systematically. Although scholarly in its methodologies, this book is highly readable, and will be of interest to a wide range of academics, coaches, athletes and mental health and Sport Psychology professionals.

Personally, the more technical a book is, the more I like it. This is especially true in this installment of Tubby Raymond's series. Although many coaches will not use the playnames or the language of Delaware, it is good to see the package's internal logic explained fully. This is a great introduction into the triple-option offense and a flank-attacking philosophy can make any defensive coordinator have an instant panic attack. It complements the rest of the series and is a must-read if you want to truly utilize the wing-T.

The book every new basketball coach should read first

I highly recommend this book. It better prepares the new coach for his new profession. It is the first book a new coach should read once he or she has received their first assignment. It discusses a large variety of topics that are important in the success of a coach and his enjoyment of his profession. Many of the things covered in this book are not discussed in the innumerable skills and drills or offense and defense books that are available on the market. For example, there are chapters on player development including developing the confidence of players, communication, coaching at the junior high level, teaching new concepts, dealing with parents, as well as a section on basic fundamentals and how to teach them more effectively. It's a can't miss book for the new coach or even the veteran coach. Loved it!
