Jeffrey Lane scores big with this riveting look at how the sport of basketball has evolved into something many of us do not recognize from it's heyday of the 1980's. It is a fascinating read that will enlighten even the non-basketball fan amongst us.

Wayne Gretzky Review

Review Date: 2006-04-15
By: Travis Reeves

This book was very good at giving information about the sport of hockey and one of the best players that ever played it, Wayne Gretzky. This book also kept me wanting to read. It did this too by using information I didn't know about Wayne Gretzky such as, his family life and the role he played off the ice.
Even as a smaller guy on the hockey teams he played on in the NHL, including the Rangers and the Oilers, Wayne Gretzky dominated. With his swift moves and technique he was able to score high and set records. One of his records he set was 300 points by his 30th consecutive game in an NHL season, which he continued to break by his 31st game.
Also in this non-fiction book of the hockey pro it mentioned some of the role models Wayne Gretzky had. These role models included his father, Walter Gretzky, a man who guided Wayne through his career and further.
This book really shows the good points to hockey. Also it gives good information about Wayne Gretzky and his accomplishments. I recommend this book to hockey fans and even those who aren't into hockey at all.

This is a fantastic book about Huskies football history. I am a big husky fan and I learned a ton about former players from Greg's book. It gave a lot of really neat insight into their opinions of the program and their personal experiences. This is a MUST READ for any Washington Huskies fan! Thanks for writing a great book, Greg !!!

This is a terrific book written with honesty and courage and filled with wisdom and encouragement. However, the title is a bit misleading because Dave and Jan do comeback: better and stronger than ever. I highly recommend this enjoyable and fast read.

This is a great book. I am a sophmore in high school and I am so glad the english department chose to put this on the summer reading list. It shows that the all-amercian family isn't perfect and how they coped with all of the hurdles that were put in front of them. They should be commanded on their ability to cope with any problem that arises. Their kids should be recognized also because they had to see Mr Fix-It(aka known to families as Dad) have something that couldn't be fixed. This is a great book and I recommend it to anyone who needs a little diversion from their problems, because there'll always be someone who has it worse off than you do.

Awesome Insight into Mosconi

Outstanding book that gives you a look at one of the greatest champions of pool of all time. Very well written with Stanley Cohen (written many sports books). Cohen uses an unusal writing style, letting Mosconi speak in his own words and then uses seperate interviews or other historical research to add to his story.

Very well written and an easy read.

A fun and informative look at one of pool's greatest players

Willie's Game chronicles the life of Willie Mosconi, one of the greatest pool players in the history of the game. That in itself makes it a necessary edition to a billiard enthusiast's bookcase, but those interested in sports, competition, and prodigies will enjoy it too.

From learning to play by hitting potatoes around on the pool table, to winning tournaments for big money, to setting the world record for the most balls run (526), Mosconi did it all. He talks a lot in his autobiography about what makes a good player, and about the difference between an apt technician and a champion.

As you'd expect, the personalities are colorful, especially when set against the background of early twentieth century America. Mosconi doesn't mince words about his impressions of and experiences with other pool notables. There's a lot of valuable pool history and anecdotes here.

This book is a great history lesson not just of baseball but of the times Willie played. There are many memories of the "Giants" of yesterday.

a magical book about a truly great baseball player

"Willie's Time," by Charles Einstein, is a magical read, in my opinion. Einstein basically starts when Willie made it to the "Bigs," and he weaves history into the phenomenal career of Willie Mays, who is arguably the greatest baseball player that ever lived.

I started playing Little League baseball in 1960, and I played center. Willie Mays was my hero. Mays could-and did-do it all: (1)hit for average, (2)hit with power, (3)run the bases, (4)play defense, and (5)win games for his team with intangibles. Many players challenged Willie's arm, and Mays threw the majority of them out.

To attempt to compare drug-enhanced players of today with Willie Mays is ludicrous. They are mere children compared to Willie.

Today (27 May 2005), Major League Baseball no longer exists (to me). But "Willie's Time" was a wonderful reminder of not only a great baseball player, but also a time when Major League Baseball was fun. (RIP, Major League Baseball.)

In my opinion, you will NOT be disappointed if you buy this book.
