This was an awesome book! Mia is a really great player and this book told all about her life, family, and determination. I found out that even though she's had a lot of success, she's had difficulties too. I recommend it to anyone who likes Mia Hamm or soccer.

I picked this book because it looked really interesting and when I read it I realized that the book was better than I thought it would be.

Michael Jordan's life was both happy and said. He had a lot of money but he was still bothered by media. It was ridiculous when people start making rumors about his dad dieing because he was involved in drug botched drug deal and some said he faked his death and he was still alive.

I am still curious to know exactly why Michael's "dad" died. Was the rumors right? Was he killed because his son Michael Jordan was gambling too much?

I really recommend this book to anyone who loves or likes basketball and everyone who have heard about basketball legend "Michael Air Jordan". This book doesn't contain stuff about drugs or anything that influence people bad way. IT'S FOR EVERYONE.

Michael Jordan is one of my favorite books and it only has 7 chapters. If you want to know how Jordan became the NBA'S best player, you should read this book. You can learn about his family. This book shows how he gets through his childhood, high school, college, basketball and baseball careers!!!
Michael Jordan has lead the NBA in scoring over 5 times and he has over 3 MVP (Most Valuable Player) awards. He has scored over 20,000 points in his career! The NBA says when he retires he will be an NBA Legend.
It's the best book! The thing I liked about this book is how they described his childhood and his family. The thing I didn't like about the book is they made it too short! In this book you will see how interesting basketball is. I give it 5 stars and 2 thumbs up. Be sure to read this book.

I accidentally bought this tape instead of an excellent book of Jordan quotes by Janet Lowe. The book was so good I'd pass copies out to kids that I thought could use some mentoring or role modeling. This tape, however, is hardly worth the time to listen to it, and absolutely not worth the price. A verbal 'People' magazine piece at best. In disgust, I am throwing away the 3 copies I bought so that no one else should be victimized. Please do the same.

This is a wonderful book for children. The chapters are short but informative. There are many lessons to be learned here, including the meaning of the word determination, and the importance of family. Mike didn't start out to be a catcher but learned the position and is now the best.

Amazon misses a sale

The Amazon search engine shows "The Modern Recorder Player" by Walter van Hauwe to be out of print. The book SERIES is currently in print, published by SCHOTT, and is a classic of modern and baroque style recorder technique. I have ordered the 3 volumes of the series from another bookseller, and they are currently on their way to me by post.

Volume 1 covers basic technique such as playing position, the all important topic of breathing, articulation, tone production, and some aspects of original music practice.

Vol 2 continues these topics, with more consideration of baroque music.

Vol 3 is devoted to specifically modern recorder techniques for 20th century music.

These books are continually cited by other technique and method authors, and have been classics in the field since their first publication.

Too bad the Amazon search engine would rather show it as 'out of print' than admit they don't carry it. Obviously, users of the Amazon search engine who come up with an 'out of print' message should reconfirm this by other methods, and always remember that even "Books in Print" is merely an advertising medium, listing only those books which publishers pay to list. Smaller publishers and specialty publishers frequently don't list all their books there.

----------Followup--------
The book is no longer shown as out of print, but readers should still be wary of 'out of print' Amazon messages as I originally posted.

I got the series, and found it lives up to its reputation. There is plenty here to keep me busy for the rest of my musical life. The material is well written, well illustrated, and easy to understand. The technical advice is appropriate for anyone from beginner to professional level.

This essential text is NOT out of print!

As the previous reviewer said, this series of three books is indeed not out of print. It is the most complete technical manual for serious recorder players. I use it with all of my pre-professional students, as do many teachers around the world.

"Money Players" is precisely what the sub-title says it is: "A guide to success in sports, business & life for current and future pro athletes." This is a detailed guide for athletes - should you stay in college or go pro, should you cheat and get an agent early (NO!), "The Business of Your Life," taxes and insurance and estates, saving your money, and much more. Any high school or college student would benefit from reading this book, because much of the advice here applies to everyone in life. And many high school kids would probably read it because of the sports angle.

Why is a book such as this one absolutely necessary? Let's look at the lives of two professional basketball players. In early January 2008, former NBA player "J.R." Isaiah Rider was arrested on a no-bail warrant. Following a dispute between Mr. Rider and his cab driver, the police discovered he had two warrants out for his arrest. His troubles with the law go back years, and he is hardly the first pro athlete to have his name in the paper for breaking the law. But it is always sad to see someone just throw their life away (SF Chronicle January 7, 2008).

Baron David, on the other hand, came to camp for the Golden State Warriors with a new attitude. Davis was upset about his contract and could have come to camp with a very bad attitude. But he had several conversations with the great Jerry "Logo" West, who basically told him how fortunate he was to be a professional basketball player and that Mr. Davis should "Be positive. Just go up there, shut up and play." Mr. Davis is now enjoying the best season in a stellar career. (SF Chronicle January 17, 2008.]

March Isenberg stresses honesty and integrity in this book. And he walks the talk. Many Amazon book posts have several 5 star reviews that just happen to come out a day or two after the book is published (sometimes the same day; sometimes even before!). You check those reviews and several of the writers have not reviewed another book - before or since. Makes you wonder, doesn't it? Well, this book has been out 4 months and this is the first review and you may rest assured it is 100% my work with no input or suggestion of any kind from the author!

That's the way it should be. And if you have the good sense to read this book, you'll learn how the game of life should be played: The right way.

Fact of the matter is that Eddie Robin is probably the greatest pool and billiard writer ever. "Winning One-Pocket", "Shots, Moves, & Strategies", and "Position Play in 3-Cushion Billiards" are some of the best writings on the subjects. "More One-Pocket Shots" was never released. It is still a work in progress, so to speak. If Eddie starts his business back up, which he fully intends to, that and "Winning 9-Ball" will be some of the releases. For the time being, all 3 of his books are hard to find, and as I said, this one does not exist. I would highly recommend using your local Library's "Inter-Library Check Out" program. All his books are available. All 3 are at a library in Oregon. Many others are at various other libraries. Shoot well...

The Latino Influence in Baseball - Past and Present
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2005-09-06

Wendel gives a face to the many Latino players that have been a part of baseball in the US -- first in "Negro" leagues and finally in the majors where they have come to dominate. Wendel's writing is always very readable, with facts interlaced with plenty of stories by and about the Latino players. The photographs are a wonderful plus to this excellent account of the rise of Latino players in baseball. Six year olds (such as my grandson) can readily identify the pictures of current players. Another excellent read (this one fiction) by Wendel is "Castro's Curveball." I highly recommend it also.

Good Stuff!

Okay, let's start with my admission that I'm not a baseball fan. I knew the game from childhood but the big money and greed have alienated many of us who enjoyed baseball as kids. That being said, I found that The New Face of Baseball refreshing enough to evoke some of those feelings that made me appreciate baseball in the first place. The book has to do with talented Latino baseball players like Clemente, Cepeda, and Sosa. The common element is that these players played the game elsewhere before coming the United States, places where the game is more sacred and believe it or not more important than here in America.

The books consists of short stories about many of today's heroes that have quickly become baseball superstars, and those older stars who paved the way for the younger Latino players much the way Robinson and Dobry did for African American players. The author uses player interviews and past experiences of his own to give the reader a greater appreciation for what players Latin America have done for today's game.

Maybe the most interesting part is the All Century Latino team listed at the end of the book. It's a lineup that would challenge any other all-star team, past or present.

I bought this for my soon to be 3 year old daughter... She loves playing with the music player.. All of her cousins fight over this book!! A big hit... Highly recommend..

She changes the discs and dances along... and we read the book together every night. It is easy for her to use the music player without any help.
