I am a huge Yankee fan and I have read a lot of books about them including some about Mickey Mantle. Out of all the books about the Mick this is my favorite.

Bill Liederman and Maury Allen have created a different perspective about Mantle by not telling about his life and career but letting his freinds and other famous people who knew Mickey best, write a paragraph about experiences with him. It shows the real Mickey Mantle and some of the funny and great things he did.

The book is divided in four categories; Mickey as a Yankee and Teamate, Mickey as Legend, Mickey as Personality, and Mickey as a Ballplayer. The book has people such as Whitey Ford, Willie Mays, Billy Chrystal, Joe Torre, Donald Trump, Regis Philbin, and more.

I loved reading this book and I recommend it to not just a Yankee fan but any baseball fan or someone who lived during his career and remember him.

First, I am not a Yankees fan, but they have had some great players over the years and Mantle is, arguably, one of the best, and I have always admired his considerable talent. Everyone knows his statistics and how he liked to party, but I was looking for some insights into the man, and this book delivered. The book is a series of reminiscences by teammates, opponents, writers, friends and people whose lives were touched in some way by Mantle. Some are funny, some are poignant, but all of them together give a picture of the man. If you enjoy reading about the person behind the legend, and how he was perceived by others who knew him, then you'll enjoy this book. It's a good read and I recommend it heartily.

There are lots of Mickey Mantle books out there, but I've never seen another like this. Anecdotes about Mickey from friends, teammates, and notable fans whose lives he touched. It's a fun, fast read as each story gives you a new perspective on one of the most colorful Yankees of all time. Unlike the standard-issue biographies out there, this book reads like a series of quick conversations and it is fascinating and entertaining to hear from such diverse names as Yogi Berra, David Halberstam, Regis Philbin, and Willie Mays. I learned a lot that I didn't know about Mickey, and I highly recommend this for you other Yankee fans out there.

I got this book from a close friend and she warned me, but she should've WARNED me. This book is so good. Now the sex scenes (and there are plenty) are very detailed! Not very good for me( no way for me to channel all of that uhm...energy) Anyway, the plot thickens, and thickens and there are some surprises. Heck just read the book. If you like Zane you will love this!

PLAYERS GOT PLAYED is one of the most drama-packed, unique books I've read this year! Rechella did her thang with creativity!

Mississippi residents Parrish, Dhelione, Emberly, Myilana, and Renalia have formed a "wives club" with a mission to get back at their philandering husbands, while at the same time, pleasuring themselves. For five years, the group strategically carried out their plan, meeting once a year in a recluse area in Mississippi to rehash their activities.

The story begins with the annual meeting, and each wife gets her turn to share her sexcapades from the past 12 months. When Myilana recounts her story, Renalia becomes enraged, and all hell breaks loose. From that point forward, the "wives club" is never the same. Mayhem begins like you've never seen before, and everyone involved faces tragedy and dispair that will forever change their lives.

PLAYERS GOT PLAYED has the reader engrossed in the story from the first page, and the outcome of the story is unbelieveable. I commend Rechella for creating such an enthralling story!

I'm Matthew Low, better known on both Pojo.com as the person who techs decks and stuff like that. I wrote one of the articles in this neat book; the Videl deck, dedicated to my sister.
This is one of the best things you can get if you want some tips starting out. Of course all card game books get outdated from time to time, but this one is all you need to catch up to right before Buu Saga. People like the almighty IQ and accomplished veterans like Zeller, Williams, and Fashbinder give their ideas. Most of the people included in this book (not all) are of the greatest there are in the game; take their advice.
It helps the person wanting to start out with a bunch of nothing, like the Cheap decks, to the tournament level ones like Richie's outdated Cell Namekian. More or less the decks are still good for the most part; make sure you swing by dbzcardgame.com and find any changes that have sprung up in the last few months.
If anything, read the articles. They are by far the most useful things you can read to help you in this game. The decks will get you started. After all, this is a beginner's book. If you are ready to go to the advanced/expert level, feel free to email me (go find my address in my article ^_^) for a deck tech or some tips.
So... I say get this book, especially if you need some help in the game of DBZCCG. It has a wealth of information you won't find ANYWHERE else. Get this. I said so.

It's about time someone created a book about the DBZ Card Game. This game has been around for years, and there's not too many places to get information.

This book is perfect for newbies, and people that are trying to get better. I think you World Champion type guys will enjoy it too, as you finally can read about your sport. ;-)

This book has History, Killer Decks, Top 10 Lists and more. My favorite part is the Top 20 Most Collectible Cards, as I like to collect the rare ones.

There's 96 pages ... and all of them are fun to read! Pick in up!

I enjoyed this book so much. Coincidently I finished it just before seeing a ceremony in honor of Roberto Clemente with his widow Vera present at the 2006 MLB All-Star game. From reading this book I understand why the word "Pride" is always used when discussing Roberto Clemente. This book carres the theme of Roberto's pride from beginning to end. Pride not only in himself but in his family and country. Many may say this is not a book about baseball, but those who know the magic of baseball understand that you can't seperate the game from the players. It is the great person in the player that makes the game of baseball so wonderful. Roberto was a great baseball player and an even greater man. Puerto Rico should feel honored in having him as one of their native sons.

He palyed for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was the youngest in his family, just like me. His dad made alot of money compared to the others that lived around them. Roberto rode his bike to another town to try out for a softball team. It was only a couple of miles from his home. His school was trying to teach him to speak English, and he didn't do very good, but he tried.

Very nice and easy to understand.

This is a terrific book for any early teen baseball fan. Something that I thought was really interesting about this story is that the robbery portion of it is completely based off of an event that occurred to Houston Astros third basemen, Morgan Ensberg. There was a story done on ESPN in which he explained the entire event.

GREAT!!! Road To The Majors is an amazing book about a boy with a dream. It is about a boy named Jimmy Hanks, he is from California, he surfs like a lot of the people from his town but he wants to play soccer, until someone changes his life. Nick Erickson was one of Jimmy friends in high school. One day Nick was at Jimmy's house and convinced him that baseball was his sport. Jimmy always liked baseball but never wanted to be in the MLB (Major League Baseball). From then it is a great book about his struggles to make it to the MLB.

If you read this book I would love to hear if you liked it or not. I hope you find my review helpful and if you like baseball this is the book for you.

In this book The Road to the Majors, Jimmyis trying to make the baseball team. When he was younger,he always liked the bag of the double AA baseball team, the Lonestars. He thought the bags were neat and always wanted one, so he decided to try out for the Lonestars with his friend Nick Erickson. He wotked out in the summer and tried to get good enough to make triple AAA baseball that's one step under the majors. At tryouts, he either could get sent down to a league or he could get to play in double AA baseball. That's were Jimmy Hanks was playing. As Jimmy was trying to get better and better, he was learning the tricks or trades of being a baseball player. He went to tryouts with a high level of confidence, meaning he was full of hope and prayers to make the team. That talent meant he made the Amarillo Dusters, the triple AAA team. So he went out there and showed what he had. They were playing catch when the coach said "Jimmy Hanks"(here comes the moment of truth) "hey Jimmy, come in and set down please. We want to congradulate you on making the triple AAA Amarillo Dusters.

Great storyline about a young man chasing his passion of baseball and remembering just how it became his passion in the first place. Brought back some memories of my own childhood and how I dreamed of a Major League career. A good book for children in search of heroes and good read for us older "children" who can still remember what it was like to chase a dream.

Does anyone know where I can find more from these two authors or who these guys are?

Season of Gene is an amazing book. Just over 200 pages long and nearly perfectly plotted, the story's real surprise is its two female leads, Joy and Theresa. One is a sudden widow and the other a struggling single mother, and both are drawn with empathy, humor, and above all generosity. Hudgens is a very rare author, whose great comic timing and breakneck pacing co-exist with his ability to perfectly paint small moments of human frailty and decency alike. The book isn't easy to classify, but it is easy to love.

Loved it. The humor and plot is top-notch and fast-paced, but don't be fooled, the characters find their way into your heart and stay there-even the dead ones. This book is different from Hudgens' "Drive Like Hell," (as different as North and South), but "Gene" is just as funny, heart-breaking, and well-written. Hudgens is an adept storyteller. Great Christmas gift!

Season of Gene is a grand slam for Drive Like Hell author Dallas Hudgens. If you liked Drive (really, if you haven't already, you should check out this book), and you're looking for another page-turning, funny, fast-paced and edgy book you will not be disappointed. When Joe Rice's business partner, Gene, dies rounding third base, Joe's quiet suburban life takes some unexpected turns, invovling gun-toting gangsters, internet drug scams, and a search for Babe Ruth's bat. Funny, unpredictable and certainly enjoyable, this boisterous and raucous novel will keep you busy turning pages.

Great Memoir

Review Date: 2000-09-24
This is a highly entertaining, funny, and tightly written memoir. Anyone interested in ghostwriting should read this book. Taylor Branch does a wonderful job with structure, with each chapter reading like a thematic essay, rather than a chronological depiction of events. I couldn't put the book down.

Russell is a wily and stubborn yet unconventionally thoughtful persona. Russell was an avid student and his opinions, while unorthodox, make a lot of sense, and thus are very humorous. His qualms with the idolization of sports stars, for example, manifest in funny anecdotes about fans seeking autographs and Red Auerbach trying to retire his jersey. And though Russell tries to depict his life in unromatntic terms - the final scene is of him giving up his clim of Mt Ranier - his story is inspirational. The path he takes from rural, segregated Louisiana - where his peers believe in ghosts - to media superstar is dramatic.

My favorite section in the book is the part where Russell describes Sam Jones's ability to take over a game, but Jones's refusal to do it very often. Jones didn't want the responsibility, he says, which confuses his teammates. The juxtaposition of Jones's great abilities to his listless and uncooperative sides was captivating. This is by far the best sports memoirs, and one of the best memoirs period, I've ever read.

Bill Russell writes as he played; with controversy and excellence. As an N.B.A. All-Star and 11-time world champion, he knows about life and transfers this knowledge to the pages of his book. This is a book about life's victories and defeats and how to deal with them. Russell is entertaining, candid and controversial. He says what he thinks and has a great philosophy of life. This book was written in 1979, but is even more important today, as we are besieged with athletes with big salaries and even bigger egos. This book reveals a social as well as athletic history. If you can find a copy, it is well worth the reading.

I really like the way Lev Alburt and Larry Parr have written these Volumes of the " Secrets of the Russian Chess Masters". I think reading Volume 1 is a must for beginners if you want to get the most out of Volume 2. I had no problem going from Volume 1 to Volume 2. Volume 2 (about the first 100 pages) starts mainly with more detailed Tactics and many helpful Diagrams. There are up to 3 diagrams on one page with the answers & explanations on the opposite page or just below the diagrams, no searching for answers. The last half of the book is mainly about Openings. There about 20 openings he explains and many have an accompanying Master Games ( Reti, Fischer, Tal ) which are easy to follow. I also like that he gives some specific Opening recommendations. Thus, this book explains Advanced Tactics and will prepare you for a more advanced Opening Book. Lev also gives a list of all the Chess Champions starting 1745(A.Philidor) to 1997(G.Kasparov). The book is 231 pages including a nice Index.

Fantastic book. Teaches chess the right way.

It's probably the quickest way to learn chess, and the right way to do it. Very pleasing to read and full of "Chessercizes" that help you test your understanding of the presented material. This volume enhances your knowledge of the game not through boring opening memorization but through tactics and tactical devices that can be applied to any game at anytime. won't believe how it will improve your game and playing style as well as your appreciation for the fine art of chess.

This book teaches you elements of tactics. There are a lot of puzzles to solve and they are quiet challenging. The book is not for beginners, so take a note of that. Seems that most of the examples in this book were used to create Alburt's "300 most important positions" published later.

I have been making and repairing bowed stringed instruments for 20 years. Although this book is written by a bass expert, it is the best one you will find covering all aspects of string repair and optimizing tone. Mr. Traeger explains how to do this, with plenty of pictures, and, most importantly, why it works.
If you are a player, you will learn all about how your bass should be repaired. The mystery of the repairmans magic is revealed completely. This will give you the insight you need to ask intelligent questions the next time you need expensive repairs.
If you are a luthier, you will gain the insight and experinace of Treager's many years of successful practice.
This book is the most valuable single book in my library of making and repairing bowed stringed instruments.
