Sometimes Nice Guys Finish FirstReview Date: 1998-08-30
The real heroes of this book are Marcus' parents, Harold (Red) and Gwen Allen, who put the necessary time and effort into providing their children with the integrity that has made Marcus successful.
This is a book of contrasts and conflicts, the first of which are with Al Davis, owner of the Oakland Raiders. Marcus despises Al and is candid in describing his reasons. Anyone who is not familiar with Al Davis might think Marcus is exaggerating, but those who are familiar with him will find the criticism reasonable, if not understated. Corroboration for his descriptions of Al's eccentricities may be found in "Slick: The Silver and Black Life of Al Davis" by Mark Ribowsky [ISBN: 0-02-602500-0], a highly entertaining biography that is now out of print but may be available through a used-book service.
The other interesting contrast is that between Marcus and his friend O.J. Simpson. As Marcus described Nicole Simpson's death and the subsequent murder trial, I kept asking how these two men, similar in so many ways, could have ended up so differently. As I said at the outset, the real heroes of the book are Marcus' parents.

A book for any basketball player Review Date: 2008-05-01
"Maximum Performance Basketball: In-Season Workout Book for Players 7th Grade-12th Grade," by James E. Brown, is a book for any basketball player that wants to improve their skills. The author is a former pro-European basketball player, and he has coached a number of teams throughout the U.S.A. and Europe. This book helps with passing, dribbling, shooting, post moves, and even helps with time management. There are clear illustrations and numbered steps on how to execute each move perfectly, and good pictures showing how to do the drills. It also has a really good exercise workout schedule on a weekly calendar.
This book is an in-season workout book so it's better to have it with you on the court than for a quiet-time read. I would bring this book along with me to my practices, so I could read the drills then perform them. You should bring it every time you practice. It is easy to understand and even though it's simple, it still gives you a great workout.
I would recommend this book to any student athlete because it doesn't just help to improve your skills; it shows you how to manage your time, and balance homework and basketball evenly. You will find individual moves, workout schedules, and a list of students that excelled beyond the rest and reached their ultimate goals of getting scholarships, and even making it to the N.B.A. I liked this book and will use it myself, and I recommend Maximum Performance Basketball: In-Season Workout Book for Players 7th Grade-12th Grade" to any aspiring basketball player.

Book on the Best of the Best in BasketballReview Date: 2006-01-11
There are some feats in professional basketball that you simply never forget, such as Jerry West's last minute heave from sixty feet out, or Willis Reed's comeback in the 1970 NBA Finals, or when Michael Jordan executed a flying dunk from the free-throw line, or when Anthony 'Spud' Webb won the slam dunk contest standing at 5'7". This book reviews those highlights in great detail, plus extra statistics that summarize the changes that have taken place over a century.

NBA's Greatest
by John Havlicek
This book is about the greatest NBA players of all time. It is also about the greatest games. Also it tells about the best teams in the league.
I think an interesting part is when Scotty Pippen told about Dirk Nowitski. Here are some words he said, `' He's definitely shown me a different dimension in the power forward game,'' said Pippen.''He's probably the only power forward that I've seen that can do the things he does being a 7 footer.''
I think that people who like basketball would like to read this book. Also if someone just wants to read about certain players in basketball , and he's a legend, this would be the book for them. Finally if you want to find out about the greatest moments in basketball look at this book.
I would give this book a 10 out of 10 because it is a good book to read. If you want to learn about the NBA's Greatest check here.

Delightful...fun ...for history buffs --"Galveston - Lore"Review Date: 2001-06-20
The collection of stories was compiled by Gini Fendler-Brown and Max Rizley Jr., Texas writers, and published by Eakin Press, Austin, Texas in a 164 page package sure to please history-lovers near and far.
“Galveston … Lore…” brings to the reader stories ranging from the disastrous 1900 hurricane -- the worst natural disaster to occur in this country, to the fact that the extinct Karankawa Indians cared for Cabeza de Vaca and his shipwrecked party in 1588, and tales of fabled pirate-patriot-lover Jean LaFitte.
Stories abound telling of the history of Galveston’s moniker as “The Oleander City” and the true origin of the Oleanders, to the fact that Galvestonians took on the challenge to rebuild after the 1900 storm and physically raised 2,100 structures above the sand during the city grade raising to avoid any repeat of the disaster. Extreme hardship, loss and Pride.
The book, easy to read and hard to put down, is bound to be a big winner for all who are fortunate enough to get their hands on it.
Makes you feel like you were born on the islandReview Date: 2001-06-20
This book takes us into the distant and more recent history of the island and its colorful inhabitants, telling us stories in a way that leaves one feeling like you're sitting around a fire at a family reunion recalling old friends, neighbors and family members. Some stories one might tell only in hushed whispers. Others provoke knowing interjections from all quarters. These are tales that deserve to be shared far outside the circle of sand.
Whether you were born on the island and want to learn about the gossip you might have missed, or live far away and merely wonder what life is like in a seaside city, this book delivers. From pirates to revered community traditions, it explores a vast scope of history in an easy way that leaves you wanting more.
Caution: You may be tempted to move to Galveston after reading this book, if you don't already live there.

RPG in the old style Review Date: 2007-07-27
I found Fire Emblem to embody a lot of what the early RPG's great, strong plot with likeable characters and smooth linear storyline. I liked how you could recruit people as you went along and losing them for good if they died added a new dimesion of strategy and realism to this title.

Good Guide for an Amazing GameReview Date: 2006-12-24
The guidebook itself is very helpful, although not altogether necessary. Afterall, because there is so much chance in the game it's impossible for the book to give you step-by-step instructions to clear the chapter. Instead, in this area it only gives you general strategy ideas (i.e., split into three groups and take out points A, B, and C before heading to D), which often times is common sense (no matter what your strategic skill is- mine for one is practically non-existent). It also gives you the stats of all the enemies you'll face (which you can do in-game, although it's often not necessary anyway), and when/where reinforcements come in (THAT is the most helpful bit). Overall, strategy wise the book gives you a few general ideas (only spending two pages per chapter) but leaves much of the execution on you. Knowing of the various traps and when certain things are triggered in the chapter is quite helpful, though.
One of the things I found most useful was the info on how to recruit more characters. Some of the new recruits I could figure out through the game alone and a stretch of imagination, but others I swear I wouldn't have ever thought of without this book (and for me, those other characters ended up being my strongest).
The other thing I found amazingly helpful was the section on character conversations. It goes into detail of each characters strengths, and what will happen if certain characters talk to each other for long enough (attribute buffs, combo attacks...) those things I wouldn't have found out easily on my own.
In all, this book is worth getting. Although a lot of it you may not find too helpful (such as its rather general strategy suggestions), you will appreciate the sections on new recruits and inter-character relations.

Helped Comprehension without Giving All Away Too SoonReview Date: 2002-01-14
I am an extremely infrequent adventure player (I fiddled with a text-based game about a mad dwarf and princess when the Mac first came out). However, I installed Riven when I bought a Mac G4 450, wanting to try something new.
After dabbling with Riven for half a year or so, I had been almost everywhere, taken copious notes, read a couple of the game's characters' journals, and created detailed, annotated maps of Riven using illustration software. Despite which, I still felt that I had no clue what I was supposed to be doing or if I was making any progress. I had grown to be more interested in understanding what it was all about than in actually completing the game. I had a sneaky suscpicion that there wasn't really an end, that it was all just supposed to be an 'experience'. Maddeningly frustrating!
Then I stumbled on this Player's Guide book while browsing in a computer store and bought it. I stubbornly read only the introduction and first chapter, not wanting to spoil the game, but also taking great comfort in knowing that I wasn't missing something really obvious or doing something really wrong. Thankfully, the introduction spells out what is to come in subsequent chapters of the book so you won't have a fear of too much being revealed.
I spent another good number of months continuing to explore with an open mind and made some more discoveries before feeling I'd hit another wall. I then read the 2nd chapter in the book which talked about geography and mentioning the things you'd need to accomplish in different areas. I was pleased to learn that I'd really done most of what I'd needed, lacking one.
When I focused my efforts on that one thing, I was able to solve it and then the game opened to a new level--I hadn't read the specific location or a description of the task or a solution--I was able to enjoy finding and solving it on my own after a gentle nudge in the general direction.
All of a sudden things started making sense, and the overall structure and direction of play started coming together. I hit another wall and sought help after another half year had passed by--this time I needed very specific help on how to solve one aspect of a puzzle that I had to dig into one of the later chapters of the book for.
Then I was able to complete the game (with help from 'Saved' scenarios) without additional help from the book.
After all was said and done, I went back to read the complete walkthrough chapter and enjoyed seeing how it all fit together and how my two-years of working on the game had been very productive overall. How I'd missed some of the more logical flow of events that had made the game more difficult to solve. And that with just two missing pieces I just plain couldn't figure out, the book had been there to get me over the hump when I was ready for (or MORE than ready for!)
Bottom line: I won't buy the Brady Games guide for Myst IIII: Exile right away. But I'll probably end up buying it gladly after a while... Unless I can figure out Myst III on my own! And even then, I might buy it anyway to get "the rest of the story!"
Book Contents
Chapter 1: Roaming Through Riven
Chapter 2: The Islands of Riven: Maps and Specifics (where you should've been and what you should've seen)
Chapter 3: Puzzles and Problems: The Solutions (puzzle-by-puzzle detailed hints, and then guidelines for how to solve them)
Chapter 4: Walkthrough: All Revealed (The title says it all and the chapter does reaveal the quickest, most efficient way to get through the whole game)

An enjoyable read with some great tips for dating!Review Date: 2007-11-09
With that said, I found reading this really enjoyable!!
Pickup and seduction stuff is great, but what I liked best about this one, and have found the most useful, is Tommy's advice on how to give oral sex to a woman. Good stuff I had not seen anywhere else and which had my last date questioning where I had learned it. Now she is like putty in my hands (or mouth). And she keeps coming, errrr RETURNING back for more. ;)
If you guys are into that stuff, and any real man SHOULD be, get this one. You'll use this stuff night after night, I promise.
Want to have quick success? This is the book for you.Review Date: 2007-10-14
So you picked her up... Now what?
This book has some good stuff on what to do after you get her home. It's great to have confidence in the bar or club, but a lot of these books fall flat when it comes to maintaining a relationship, even for the night. It's easy to talk to women for 10-20 minutes and get a phone number, but the real skill is how you manage the relationship afterward. And Tommy will tell you how to now only manage a single relationship, but multiple relationships at one time, as well.
Good tip on the audio book. I thought it was great and it gave me an idea of who this guy is who I'm trying to emulate. The print version has a lot more stuff in it though. There is some pretty graphic "bed technique" that he doesn't give in the audio. Why that is, I don't know, but it's definitely here in the print version.
Get this book and you'll be out on the town (and back to your place) by this weekend!!
Another great book from Tommy Orlando!! - This man is like Spanish Fly!!Review Date: 2007-10-10
About me-- I am a 35 year old guy in Columbus, OH. It used to frustrate me that I am right in the middle of this huge college campus with like 45,000 students, but all the hot chicks would just pass me by. And the stuff like Mystery and Style and other PUAs is ok, but I felt like I was a bit too old for it.
Enter Tommy Orlando... This guy gets it!! Very smooth and brings with him an "old school" flavor which women are totally into. He makes these other guys look like little boys trying to makeout with chicks at a Jr. High dance.
This book talks about juggling multiple women, keeping everybody happy, how to keep everything straight (money, names, hobbies), and more philiosphy that will help you get tons of girls.
Everything is short, to the point, and simple. I got this book about a week or so ago and have already have had a couple of dates. Nice!!
This book is like the older brother you never had. A total bargain for $10. It's quick and to the point. All strategies and not any fluff or grandstanding. Tommy has game so obvious he doesn't need to tell you how great he is. When you listen to him, you'll know he's the real deal.
Quick and Easy Read - Get your game up to speed!!Review Date: 2008-01-22
I really enjoy Tommy's writing style. So many of these dudes take themselves way too seriously. And the fact that Tommy doesn't lets me know he is for real. He doesn't care whether you, or the girls he dates, like him or not. He's not out trying to prove a point. He's like, "This is who I am, I'm not going to force you to get with me or like me-- either we do this or I'll move on to somebody else."
That's a true player. These other dudes spend half their books trying to convince you how cool they are. Nicknames, funky outfits, or the like. Tommy is bare bones stuff. Yes, it's simple, but isn't pickup at its most basic level simple? Why complicate it with a bunch of noise.
I like this book and am looking for more like it. And I can't wait to get more from Tommy Orlando!!
