This is a comparataive study of halfway houses in Great Britain. While completed in the 1960's it breaks ground in that it studies the effect of 25 small instituions environments on the movement of mental patients back into independent living. It is a seminal work in that uses a scaled measurement of each centers' social environment to determine how it influences patient move to and fro from hospital to independent living. Wonderful projects, great tips, inspirational

This is a great book to get you started using hand lettering in your crafts. The book starts out with basic information on tools and materials. Then there are great tips on transferring and using the computer to help your out if you handwriting and calligraphy skills are lacking.

The projects follow, and are broken up into lettering styles including romantic, modern, decorative, and vintage. Each section shows the full alphabet of several typestyles and a few have illustrations and notes of how to draw them correctly. For a beginner they can be traced and transferred. Typefaces include the basics like simple italic, block and script styles, decorative versals, uncials and art deco Anna, fun ones like Party and elegant ones like ITC Vintage. There is a typeface for almost any project.

A nearly endless array of projects can be enhanced with lettering and a wide range of typestyles are included here. My favorite projects include gilded glass coasters, an etched glass floating frame, botanical note cards, dotted gradient dessert plate and a raised Chinese character lampshade. All the projects are great and fairly easy to follow, but I was a bit disappointed that a full alphabet for my favorite typeface the author uses (stained glass) was not in the book.

In the back there is great resource list. There is also wonderful gallery that shows you all kinds of way to use calligraphy. It is very inspirational. The gallery artists are all listed in a directory with addresses, phone numbers and email address. This book makes a great gift for anyone into crafts especially rubber stamp and paper artists.

If you need a book to help you with all of the English language exceptions - this book is for you. Excellent examples and a great index make this easy to use and apply. This book will help anybody with communication skills.

Expertly compiled and deftly edited by John R. Z. Abela (Associate professor and William Dawson Scholar in the Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry, McGill University, and Director of the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Clinic, Montreal Children's Hospital) and Benjamin L. Hankin (Assistant Professor of Psychology, University of South Carolina), the "Handbook Of Depression in Children And Adolescents" is a compilation of contributions by some of the foremost scientist-practitioners working in the field of juvenile depression, its origins and treatments. Utilizing a framework of developmental psychopathology, the "Handbook Of Depression in Children And Adolescents" divides the articles into five major sections: Introduction and Epidemiology of Depression; Etiology of Depression; Treatment of Depression; Prevention of Depression; and Special Populations. Presenting an impressive body of seminal studies, and enhanced with both an Author Index and a Subject Index, the "Handbook Of Depression in Children And Adolescents" is a core and strongly recommended addition to both professional and academic library Psychology & Psychiatry reference collections and supplemental reading lists.

Thank you for the paperback version!

I'm a doctoral student doing a dissertation on entrepreneurship and could finally afford the paperback version. I would have liked to have this book in my entrepreneurship seminar as it gives you a good grip on entrepreneurship subjects and a very thorough list of references to start from.
It's a book to have on your bookshelves if you have any interest in entrepreneurship(along with the Cambridge one which is unfortunately way too expensive for now).

This book is an edited collection of chapters written by knowledgeable researchers in the field of evolutionary computation. The collection is very well organized, and it covers in adequate depth many topics of evolutionary algorithms. This is an expensive book, but it is worth the price if you are really interested in a good reference book of this area. I recommend it highly.

Drive Hard -or go home!

I just read this book and I don't regret it.
I feel I could see -through the authors eyes- what one side of John Z DeLorean was like...

This is a story that covers only a very brief part of DeLorean's life (obviously) and I don't consider it the entire measure of the man.

I would say that the author presents a credible account of his perspective, I did not get the feeling that it was biased beyond that of someone who was so close to the matter. The excitement, enthusiasm, frustration, disappointment and regret show through. But it does not spoil the read, it instead reinforces its credibility and makes the whole journey more intimate.

I am left wondering about the other side of the coin, I wish I could know what JZD was thinking and what were his true motivations and timings. Like anyone out there, he was unique. -even if things done in his business and personal life were later perceived as 'predictable in hind sight'.

It truly was a fascinating read, my unfounded, biased and preconceived ideas about JZD were challenged and I am now waiting the delivery of DeLoeran's own book on the matter.

-I dream a world where dreamers succeed and the righteous lead.

a Lt. Leroy Powder of Indianopolis Police Dept mystery...
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2004-03-18
Lt. Powder is in charge of the Missing Persons Bureau in this one. Dedicated, abrasive, insulting (Walter Matthau-like character) has met his match in this story. He tells wheelchair-bound Sergeant Carollee Fleetwood, wounded in the line of duty, to whom the department has given the choice of retirement or working with Powder, "You look tired. Why don't you take a load off your feet?"

Carollee gives as good as she gets and the story is about their developing relationship and around the solving of half a dozen cases.

French overnight

OK, not really overnight, but this dictionary was recommended to me by a prof in college and I bought it before spending a year in Paris. Mind you I went to Paris with close to zero conversational experience, though I'd started to read a bit. And I wasn't even there to study the language. But because I lived with this dictionary day and night, my new French friends--made two+ months later--insisted on calling me "fluent" (not all Parisians are nasty) and I used it to read many, many, many books when I was there. Harrap's will save your life; I don't usually feel so attached to reference materials.

Definitions are lengthier than other dicitonaries I've seen, and there are sentence examples and word combinations included. If you want to avoid wasting money on dictionaries that only kind of help you translate/understand because they only give you a one- or two-word English equivalent, and you want to be able to dig deeply into a text, buy this one.
