Its a school textbook, not sure which grade.
For someone like me with absolutely no experience in programming it is a good book. I want to start working with microcontrollers and before investing too much money in harware I wanted to get some experience in programming. This book starts out doing very basic programs but advances thru more difficult problems but in a way where you build upon what you have learned in the previous section....Like I said before its a school textbook.

I have used this book with the free BASIC program at Liberty Basic....you can google Liberty Basic for their free program which is very easy to use.

Essential for Law Firms Considering Case Management Systems
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 1999-08-10
To most lawyers and law firm administrators, selecting and implementing a computerized case management system is an intimidating and sometimes overwhelming task. Andy Adkins, the author of this book, has the technical expertise and writing ability to guide non-experts through the process with common sense--and a healthy dose of humor. He keeps the techno-babble to a minimum while educating the reader enough to understand how case management works and interacts with what is actually happening in a real law office. By the time the final page is turned, the reader will be surprised at how much has been learned and how much confidence gained. Non-experts tossed into the computer world rarely read a technical book completely through. This valuable handbook is the exception.

Know what a GOBO is? Need a refresher on painting techniques? Or need to know how to light your stage or build special scenery? It's in this book!! An excellent resource book for amateur and professional alike. You'll find yourself referring back to it many, many times during the course of producing a play. I wouldn't want to be without it and recommend it to directors, producers and anyone involved in theatre!!

To Be The Mother of A Gay Son: A Remarkable Novel
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2005-02-28
Laura Z. Hobson (1900-1986) is best known for the bestselling 1947 novel GENTLEMEN'S AGREEMENT, in which she exposes the anti-Semitism simmering under the surface of American life. But this was not her only novel, nor was it her only novel on a controversial subject.

CONSENTING ADULT concerns New York couple Ken and Tessa--liberal, intelligent, affluent, both successfully employed in the publishing industry, both happy with each other and their three children. But when youngest son Jeff informs them he is homosexual he tests not only the strength of their love for him, but for each other as well.

The focus of the novel is not so much Jeff as it is his parents and how they react to his sexuality. Seen primarily through the eyes of mother Tessa, the novel spans a decade in time in which medical, psychiatric, and social attitudes toward homosexuality begin to undergo a profound change. As such, it is in some respects a "snapshot in time;" as the novel begins, for instance, Jeff requests psychoanalysis as a "cure"--a common line of thought in the early 1960s. But the focus of the novel is less on Jeff himself than on his parents, who find themselves at odds with each other over how best to support him and how best to react to his situation.

The result is a novel that does not so much concern a homosexual person as it concerns family and social response to homosexuality, and it is quite a remarkable portrait. How does one respond--particularly at a point in time when homosexuality is generally considered unspeakable--to a homosexual child? At one point in the novel Tessa notes that, life-long liberal that she is, she would know exactly how to respond if it were the son of a friend or if she read an article concerning such a situation in the newspaper. But there is a tremendous gap between fact and theory, and stock responses are of no assistance to her as she struggles to find her way.

Published in 1975, CONSENTING ADULT received very positive reviews but was somewhat overshadowed by such novels as Patricia Nell Warren's THE FRONT RUNNER and Rita Mae Brown's RUBYFRUIT JUNGLE, both of which were bestsellers focusing directly on gay characters. Hobson's CONSENTING ADULT is considerably less splashy in content and considerably more subtle in tone, but it is no less remarkable for that; this is a fine, elegantly written novel that deserves a wider readership than it presently has. Strongly recommended.

This is an excellent book. Why is it that the mere mention of the phrase 'conspiracy theory' is enough to conjure images of people wearing aluminum foil on their head and other such absurdities? What Bratich does with great skill in this book is look at the effects and power relations created within panics over conspiracy, or the processes that lead to a condition where the mention or accusation of a set of being a conspiracy theory leads to the marginalization of the ideas contained. Conspiracy theories and panics over them are thus an important site for the shaping of political rationality, particularly in how they discount and render separate from what Bratich describes as the 'sphere of legitimate dissensus.' The point is not to embrace any particular series of conspiracy theories, but rather to see what their social functions are what subjugated knowledges are contained within them. In other words, there is more lost in terms of building forms of social movement and radical politics in the forms of power invoked in panicking over conspiracy narratives than posed by their existence. Indeed, one can reformulate an approach to politics based upon the forms of subjugated investigations and collective intelligence found within these narratives. Bratich does an excellent job in providing a set of tools for such a task.

This is by far the best book for beginners or even experienced people I've read on the subject. I'm new to the whole thing and this is the only book I've read out of about six, that shows how to fold, then shows the result of that fold for many different techniques and patterns. It shows batik being done in Indonesia by experts then provides practical instruction. It also covers something I'd never heard of tritik - using stitches instead of tieing. Very well done. I wish it could be updated to discuss new dyes and materials.

A fine reference volume, this book is perhaps less valuable in terms of instruction than Liebson's book, but Meilach picks up where Liebson leaves off. Liebson devotes his book entirely to technique -- to the craft of sculpting; only the first third of this book does the same, but with the help of over 350 photos, Meilach instead concentrates on the art of carving. Not so much art theory, but rather considerations of form, volume, and meaning, and how to impart those to your sculpture. Liebson will teach you how to carve; Meilach will help you figure out what to carve. Liebson's book is still #1, but Contemporary Stone Sculpture is its perfect complement.

A magical book which is as brutal as it is dreamy

Naomi Mitchison¹s masterful recreation of ancient Scythia must surely stand as one of the most enduring historical novels of the century. In clear, pristine prose (which reminds me of Ursula LeGuin), Mitchison describes the mystical, sometimes horrible, world of her protagonist Erif Der (Red fire backwards). I first stumbled across this long novel in 1988 while at university. Rereading it last year was a sheer pleasure. The old-fashioned, very British, tone of the writing is not in the slightest bit off-putting. Here is a remarkable writer at the height of her powers. Like Ursula LeGuin, again, Mitchison has the uncanny ability to transport her readers to alien cutures and to make these foreign worlds, and the people who live there, as relevant as they are mesmerising. If you haven¹t experienced Naomi Mitchison before, then I can¹t think of a better place to start than with The Corn King and the Spring Queen.

This is a good story with an interesting take on friendship among farm equipment. It's especially good for kids who like trucks and John Deere tractors.
