This is a required textbook if anyone wants to be able to play music on the guitar without obstacles .
Only 000.001 % of the world's population can learn guitar successfully alone. The infinitesimal number of really good players speaks for itself. Students need proper training in how to think like a good guitar player. This type of thinking is highly complex or everyone would play guitar just like they wish. But they simply cannot...until now.
The principles is the only book to my knowledge that actually puts every learning step in focus and tells you how to practice it. Where other books get vague and unspecific the principles gets to heart of the technical matters at hand with step by step how-to guidance that has proven to be highly effective worldwide in any style.
The Principles allow you to learn to play anything you desire- with the necessary work- Be realistic! and don't fall for the common idiotic lies on the media: In other words: If you want to be a world class virtuoso expect to practice 4 to 11 hours daily for 5 to 10 years. But for those who want to play in a band or write songs or accompany themselves, it becomes possible to do so in a about year or less with the principles systematic approach and a minimum of 1/2 hour of practice every day.
The guitar is- in-spite its popularity- the most complex instrument to master technically bar none. Other instruments require more force or limb independence but none has the devilishly intricate technical complexity and microscopic minutiae that baffles 90% of those who try to really succeed as they had hoped for.
Those days are coming to an end! The principles is saving larger and larger numbers of aspiring players from the common fate of never quite being able to play the guitar fluidly, easily, musically and naturally..

This book is a great resource for anyone involved in playing fantasy basketball. It provides insightful commentary along with per game statistics that let you know how even the most little-used bench warmer would perform if given a starting job in the NBA. Last year's book predicted great things for Zach Randolph and Michael Redd, and this year's book is packed with great articles and helpful info.

This is a detailed analysis of virtually every player (I can't think of any he missed, but there could have been one or two). Each team has a couple of pages describing where they are, what happened last year and what it expected next year.
Then it gets really interesting. Mr. Hollinger has developed a fairly sophisticated set of statistical standards that he then applies to each player on the team. This includes such things as analyzing the per-minute of play performance rather than the game performance. This says that a player getting ten points in ten minutes is better than a player getting 30 points a game (The results are something the NBA management should check out). Other statistics are likewise specially developed for this book. It makes you wonder if even the teams know this much about their players.
John Hollinger never played in the NBA, he never coached, he just has spearheaded this new more analytical approach to pro basketball.

This book (as well as The Advanced Pro Book, by B. Henning) is well worth every penney! I'm sure you have heard that about many instructional books and tapes in the past, but as a competitive pool player for over 20 years I am always looking for new knowledge to improve my game...I can definately say that this book delivers!!
My personal collection of instructional books and tapes is quite large, but none of them has addressed the "core information" that every advanced pool player needs to know to be able to compete competitively on an advanced level "with consistency"...this book gives you that like no other!
It offers "specific and detailed" insight on every aspect of the game. The Pro Book contains information that will open up new doors you never knew existed, and can take you to new heights in your game. Bob Henning supplied much information I needed to take my game to new levels, and stay there! No matter what level you currently play at, if you are serious about improving your game The Pro Book is a MUST!
Just like B. Henning states on the cover of the book... "After 30 days with the Pro Book you will see noticeable improvement in your game!".

Wow, this book totally changed the way I approach playing pool. The reference training described in this book is good, but what really makes it stand out is the coverage of the mental aspects of the game. Things like the pre-shot routine and post game analysis can have a dramatic effect on how you progress as a billiards player. I was also impressed with the clear and concise writing style, which made this book extremely easy to read & understand. I would recommend this book to anyone looking to improve their pool & billiards playing ability.
One thing to note, this book assumes you have a basic understanding of pool & billiards, and doesn't really cover the "just learning" type of topics. If that is what you are looking for, I would recommend 'The Science of Pocket Billiards' or 'The Illustrated Principles of Pool & Billiards' instead.

Lindros is just a great person. Though his style of play makes you believe he's mean and nasty, in reality he is one of the good ones. His work with the Children's Miracle Network is amazing, and he truly loves kids! This book shows all of this. He is a great role model for kids.

I am a sixteen-year-old fan of Eric Lindros, and, yes, I read (and proudly own) this children's book of his. I immensely enjoyed reading it, and actually found it quite inspiring. I feel that this book provides young kids with a new look at the life of a superstar athlete, such as Eric, and shows these children that people like him really are the same as you and me. The message he sends through "Pursue Your Goals" is wonderful, as it tells the children to always work hard and to never, ever give up on any of the goals or dreams they may have in life, no matter how difficult the road ahead may seem to be, because, in the end, hard work, a positive attitude, and dedication really do pay off.

WOW! What a refreshing read! This is exactly what our world needs today...literature with a positive message for young girls and boys. The Real Slam Dunk allows children to dream and explore the many possibilities of what they can be when they grow up. This easy reader is a valuable asset in the classroom and at home. It puts a positive look on school, careers, friendships, and family life. I have recommended it to many friends and collegues. I am looking forward to the next book in the series!

A MUST READ FOR FANS OF THE GOLDEN JET AND THOSE WHO LOVE HOCKEY. THE AUTHOR CRAIG MACINNIS GETS A HAT TRICK FOR THIS SIMPLE BUT ENTERTAINING READ.

The "Remembering..." series transcends normal biography by showcasing top quality journalist's recollections with statistics and insights into the player and their game.
Remembering the Golden Jet is no different. From Bobby Hull's early days playing minor hockey, to his watershed defection from the NHL to play for Winnipeg, a move that would rock the hockey world and force the league to re-evaluate it's salary policy forever.
For Blackhawks fans this book charts the progress of a player who was feared by goalies everywhere for his blistering slapshot.
I have read every Bobby Hull book out there, and nothing comes close in it's insights, in it's recognition of Hull as a true Legend of the game, as this beautifully designed book.
I can't recommend it highly enough.

This is the life story of famed basketball player Alonzo "Zo" Mourning. Despite being a three-time All American at Georgetown University... a seven-time NBA All-Star... a two-time NBA Defensive Player Of The Year... an Olympic Gold Medal winner... a college graduate with a degree in sociology... and after fourteen years in the NBA... he finally won a World Championship with the Miami Heat in 2006...
BUT...
Zo has made a much *BIGGER* impact on the world by not only fighting to overcome a kidney disease called focal glomerulosclerosis, of which there is no cure... but after fighting a "losing" battle with that disease... wound up having to get a kidney transplant as well. A winner like Zo, doesn't have the word lose in his vocabulary... and at a point in his life when he had more money than he could ever spend... and was thanking the Lord for his life... he dedicated his body and soul... to do... the unthinkable... PLAY AGAIN IN THE NBA!
If you look back on Zo's childhood, it is impossible not to have realized that this was one unique individual, and he was going to succeed on his terms. When Zo was ten-years-old his parents' marriage began to deteriorate and would eventually wind up in a divorce. His life at home was becoming strenuous. The family went to the department of social services for counseling. Zo loved his parents... BUT HE ASKED TO BE PUT INTO A GROUP HOME! Can you imagine that? He loved his parents... but thought it would be better to be in a group home. That's one heck of a decision for a ten-year-old! From there he wound up in a foster home with a woman named Fannie Threet, "a local hero who as a foster Mom helped raise forty-nine kids." Zo was one of those kids. He wound up calling Mrs. Threet Mom, but his real Mother and Father remained in his life. Zo became the number-one-rated high school basketball player in the country, and every major University came after him offering scholarships. He decided on Georgetown University because all the other coaches came to his house promising "playing-time" and perks... but Coach John Thompson promised Mrs. Threet that he "WOULDN'T" promise Zo any playing time... but "WOULD" promise he would get an education.
The author "briefly" leads you through his playing career at Georgetown, the Charlotte Hornets, the Miami Heat, the New Jersey Nets, and back to Miami... but that's not really what this book is truly about. The essence of this story is Zo's being "staggered" by the failure of his powerful SIX-FOOT-NINE-AND-A-HALF-INCH - TWO-HUNDRED-SIXTY-ONE-POUND-BODY. What it felt like to be blind-sided by a relentless disease. How he faced it... how he fought back... both physically... medically... and probably most importantly to Zo... SPIRITUALLY!
Zo had always had faith, but he felt he hadn't been close enough to G-d. "There is close and there is "CLOSE". "It is one thing to walk with G-d and another to walk hand in hand with G-d." He said "I COULD DO A LITTLE BETTER. I COULD BE CLOSER WITH G-D. I COULD BE MORE HONEST WITH G-D." His soul was put at ease after a Pastor told him: "IT WASN'T A MATTER OF G-D ACCEPTING ME, BUT OF ME ACCEPTING G-D."
This book affected me in ways above and beyond my love for basketball. My Dad died from kidney failure so I was knowledgeable about many of the things Zo faced. Zo goes into great detail about fighting back from a life threatening situation... and I know firsthand what that's like... since I almost died during brain tumor surgery around the time Zo was fighting his battle. One thing Zo said many times during this book... that I said over and over to my son... when I faced death... and that's that... THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE IN THE WORLD WHO ARE A LOT WORSE OFF THAN ME! Zo donates so much of his time to charitable foundations and helps many poor afflicted children facing kidney disease.
It's not often I can say something like this about a professional athlete... but it defines Alonzo Mourning perfectly:
**ZO IS A CHAMPION... ON... AND... OFF... THE COURT!**

a tremendous inspiration. I thank God for his hardships, because they have led to this painful yet touching and motivational work.

I've read 11 of the 14 chapters in this book so far. I've only had it two days. It is truly a great read and I'm usually pretty hard to please.
I don't want to discuss any details and spoil it for anyone who may be reading it. Let's just say there are some inspirational parts, some informative parts, some funny parts, and even some parts that might make you a bit teary.
If you've followed his career closely, you may know quite a bit about some of the things he's mentioned...or at the least you might know some of the highlights of certain things, like his battles with the Knicks and so forth, but it's still very interesting hearing things from his perspective.
I definitely encourage anyone who is facing transplantation (or really, any sort of adversity) to pick up a copy of this book. It's also a good read for basketball fans who like knowing a little bit more about an athlete than what's on the surface, Heat fans who may want to know a little bit more about the man who was the face of their franchise for so many years, young men, misguided men. Honestly, I think that anyone who reads this book can take something away from it. Plus it's enjoyable and a part of the proceeds goes to charity.
Just be warned though. This book is about ALONZO MOURNING! NOT THE HEAT! NOT THE NETS! NOT THE NBA! Alonzo Harding Mourning Jr. So don't expect alot of juicy locker room details or something when you get this book. It's a nice clean read but it managed to hold my attention and my attention span is usually very short. Good work Zo.

I "graduated" from Bert Casey's Mandolin Primer to this practice set. I love the combo of the book lessons and the follow-along CDROM. I also really appreciate the different tempos to practice with. There is a slow and fast version on this CD. But I would appreciate an even slower practice version like you find on the Casey CDROM.
the songs in the Roland book are more advanced and some I would key as advanced playing versus intermediate even...but I appreciate the challenge and the diversity of songs in this book. I play in jams and a lot of the songs I've wanted to learn are in this book.
I give it high ratings and recommend it to intermediate players.

Awesome book that is used by my mandolin teacher. The CD's that come with the book are a really big help after you go home from your lesson!

A very good autobiography, infact the best I have ever read. Goes through his life in detail. From Aliquippa to Pitt to Dallas and Denver and all the mishaps and action that happened in these places. It also gives good growing up details and how it was like in family. A very exquisite book.

One of the all time great running backs in the NFL Tony Dorsett leaves nothing to the imagination as he describes the his life from childhood, to the University of Pittsburgh, to the Dallas Cowboys and the end of his career with the Denver Broncos. A must read to learn about all the difficulties of being in the spotlight. One of the best books I have read.
