The End-of-Life Handbook is a refreshing and comforting book that I wish I had had when my husband died three years ago. Reading the words of both Dave Feldman and Andrew Lasher feels like having them sitting with you, coaching you when you need help figuring out what to do. They offer practical advice about talking to doctors, how to understand your own feelings and to care for yourself when a loved one is gravely ill. If you only buy one book when you are helping someone with a serious illness, this is the one I would buy.

A Highly Recommeded Essential Resource

Drs. Feldman and Lasher have created an extraordinary book. If you are facing the challenges of caring for a dying loved one you could benefit greatly by having this essential resource. I have never read a book that had such an immediate effect of preparing me for something so difficult: to be with someone during their final passage. My loved one is an octogenarian with cancer. As a first-time primary caregiver and health proxy, I didn't know where to begin. Once I started reading, it was hard to put the book down. Its non-technical voice was liberating and validating. Never before having experienced the throes of living with someone who has a terminal illness, I realized I was emotionally surviving one day at time without a thoughtful plan. I was managing finances, trying to understand medical jargon, and more, all while neglecting to take care of my own needs: guilt, anger, numbness, sadness, et cetera.

The End-of-Life Handbook speaks directly to you, acting as your own personal compassionate guide. It draws on the experience of two experts in the field of end-of-life care. The wisdom Feldman and Lasher provide is reassuring. Most chapters end with exercises that help you with practical (but overlooked) matters like creating a plan to take of care of yourself, or providing a list of questions to help with the often difficult conversation regarding your loved one's advance directives. In addition, anecdotes in each chapter bring to life the rich information the book has to offer.

This book is highly recommended!

I recommend this book to anyone who has loved ones that are terminally ill. The valuable information in this book helps both the caregiver and the dying person understand and deal with the last stages of life. Everyone should read this book in the event that they have to deal with a terminally ill loved one.

While sufficiently detailed and scholarly in its scope for the practitioner who deals with end of life care, I found this book to be especially helpful for the lay person such as myself. The easy to navigate chapters and common sense advice were welcome for a subject that often tends toward the clinical and calculated. Sadly we are all likely to have to care, in one fashion or another, for a loved one in their final months and days of life. This book will make that journey a little easier and more satisfying.

The advice proffered in this book helped me through hard times.

Serving as the power of attorney for a dying loved one, I felt as if I was left at sea without a paddle. This book helped crystallize my thoughts and ask the pertinent questions I wanted answered from my busy doctor. The book prepared and educated me in what to expect when my loved one approached death, but also how to facilitate the process towards an end in which conincided with what my loved one had hoped for. The valuable advice in this book enabled me to interface effectively with the medical team so that I could voice the wishes of my loved one when she was unable to do so herself. Even after the passing, I still find value in this book in finding resources in coping with my loss.

We've all seen them, the smokers huddled at the doorway of a smoke-free building. For the most part, they seem furtive and possibly embarassed - our society has decided to make smoking a shame-based activity. Enter Bear Gebhardt and his revolutionary approach that emphasizes the inherent dignity and essential worthiness of the smoker. Gebhardt doesn't point fingers, doesn't assign blame. Rather, he employs a message of self-worthiness and practical behavior patterns. If you're a smoker, or care about one, check out this helpful book.

Bear G. has written a book based on many years of clinical, and especially, personal experience. The best thing about this book is it embodies his upbeat view of the world, and optimistic but realistic approaches to the challenges our habits create. I can unreservedly recommend this book to anyone trying to overcome the very difficult and addictive lifestyle of smoking, or tobacco use in general. Bear was recently invited to speak on the subject at a conference at Oxford University; a well- deserved honor because of his ability to help people.

After you've tried everything else, try this. Like any true change, quitting is an "inside-out" job. When you stop beating yourself up and start supporting and understanding yourself, you will be empowered to walk away from smoking forever. My husband quit for good 1 1/2 years ago, cold turkey, after reading only part of the book! He had smoked for 25 years~ but once he truly understood why he'd started and realized that the reason no longer existed for him, that was all it took. Hopefully you'll find this book first, before trying all the other methods~ If you truly want to quit, this will work for you too.

I received this book as a gift from my CEO and completed the reading in a couple of days and found it to be outstanding. David Audretsch gave an excellent and coherent framework for the fundamental transformation of key economic models and its relationship with key cultural, social, educational and political aspects. Having spent many years with a large and dominant company in the old managed economy and also Silicon Valley ones, I can especially internalize with his insights for that portion of the model.

I feel that this is a must read especially for colleges grads who are stepping into long journeys of global opportunities.

David Audretsch chronicles perhaps the most significant shift in modern life and the effects for innovation, productivity and social welfare. The new world is ever-changing and its actors must be responsive in order to compete. He emphasizes the importance of supporting entrepreneurship to achieve economic development, along with some interesting policy insights to do this.

The book makes "entrepreneurship" accessible to a wide audience because it is easy to read, interesting and relevant to things we already know (education, factories, etc.). He demonstrates why it matters - for everybody.

Great Assessment on Where the Economy and Jobs are Heading

This books is well written for the policy wonk and the concerned citizen. It illustrates why the old guard of economic development struggles to enact better policies in an era where workers seek meaningful jobs and well paying jobs. The personal anecdotes, historical review of past economic challenges, and economic data presented offer a strong argument that we need to begin a new line of policymaking that throws out the old "managed economy" model and experiments with new, small, and highly targeted policies for economic development.

I loved reading this!!!

Why should we be concerned about the entrepreneurial society at all? This prompted me to read this book. I imagined this book to read like an academic book but to my great surprise, I found that this book wonderfully narrates a story- the story of the world we are living in that is filled with a high degree of uncertainty and a huge number of opportunities. I found this book very interesting.

As more and more people complain that gloablisation is taking jobs away from the developed countries, David Audretsch provides a compelling solution. The solution is to observe how the world around has transformed over the last decades, to understand the evolution of the society from its historic respect for the large corporation to admiration to the small firm, from life-long jobs to self-employment.

This is a story that one would love to listen to-it sounds like a thriller and engages you till the very end. I commend David Audretsch for writing this story in a way that many people can hear and understand. I am looking forward to reading the sequel!

Concise. Easy to read. Excellent images. Three simple phrases for an excellent textbook. I was able to easily master and use this textbook on my first month of nuclear medicine and kept it "handy" for its tables and images. The pearls section at the end of each chapter were excellent for directing to truly key points. It is an excellent textbook for the _radiology_ resident and a good introductory textbook for the _nuclear medicine_ resident. A nuclear medicine resident would probably want to get a more detailed and comprehensive textbook. The chapter on PET was a nice addition to this book.

Encompassing the spectrum of Nuclear Medicine in a concise textbook is an amazing feat. Each chapter is organized well by outlining the various indications, clinical scenarios and pearls for each chapter. Images are clear and annotations are easy to follow. Each chapter is organized by basic physics, instrumentation, artifacts, and quality control, as well as by organ system.

In the Appendix, there are 'Unknown Cases' for Self assessment, as well as common protocols, and other pertinent information that does not clutter the content of each chapter (as what has been done in the Requisites Series).

This is the best text for understanding nuclear medicine for a radiologist. I highly recommend this book.

This is a new edition of a classic book. Has new section on PET which is good but not adequate given how much PET is used nowadays. Supplement with PET books like PET/CT: A Case-based Approach by Conti (this may be too expensive for a resident) or PET and PET/CT: A Clinical Guide by Lin (less expensive).

This book is a no frills, frank discussion of the use of essiac to build up the immune system so the body can fight cancer and many other immune related diseases. The history of the discovery of native use of essiac by Rene Caisse and how she was able to use it successfully to help a large number of people is very encouraging to potential users of essiac today. I have purchased several copies of this book and given them away to cancer sufferers who have immediately began using the tea with great trust and hope. The odds of being helped by essiac presented in this book are so much better than most cancer patients could imagine that they are eager to try it. Every cancer patient should read this book and then make up their mind about how they wish to combat their disease!

Evangeline is Longfellow's masterpiece. The poem begins with
the famous "forest primeval" . The reader is taken to the home
of the Acadian farmers and the famous village reminescent
of a variety of tradespeople. The work describes whole
communities dispersed and separated from the homeland in the
mid-1700s. Evangeline and Gabriel flee home and experience
the pain of separation despite the fact that Gabriel seems to
keep a step ahead during a major part of the story. The work
attests to the beauty and strength of a woman's devotion.
In many ways, our fate and destiny tend to be random events which are out of our immediate control. This work traces the
fate of important characters living in a state of uncontrolled
flux and uncertainty . Readers of the poem will discover
how the story unfolds and the difficult choices presented
at various stages of Longfellow's journey. The work is
written utilizing an advanced vocabulary typical of the
writers during this period .

I heard about this book from my mom a few weeks ago after I went to see the movie Serendipity. I told her about the plot of the two people in love searching for one another and just missing every time. She said it reminded her of another story, Evangeline. Since i attend an engineering school I am always very eager to read books with real meaning behind them, given that all my textbooks focus on is wastewater treatment, biological processes, etc... So given that I wasn't really expecting too much but a relief from textbooks when I picked up this book. Little did I know it was soon to become one of my favorites. I was pleasantly surprised by the Christian influences behind the poem and found myself crying a lot more than I expected. I highly recommend this to anyone who has a great appreciation for well written, romantic poetry and literature.

For all who love Evangeline, this will not disappoint!

I have a passion for Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's lyrical lines of Evangeline. Therefore, I was uneasy in the purchase of Evangeline, A Novel. I shouldn't have been. Finis Fox's insight into the lives, loves and losses of the Acadians is remarkable. He adds to the story lines rather than detracting from them. His words are at once romantic and colorful, lulling you into passive reflection. The emotions are all there, the joy, the pain and the suffering. He does not stray far from Longfellow's poem, using the same names of people and places. It is a story worth reading! It would be worth the price if it were twice as much. I wish it could have been longer, but in staying true to Longfellow, the story moved much the same as did the poem. If you loved Evangeline, you will love this novel as much or maybe more!

Angelica Kane is a psychic whose gift is starting to seem more like a curse. Having recently helped the police to locate a missing child, Angelica's dreams, premonitions and visions have since become far more vivid. Assault, murder and ritualistic rites haunt her dreams as an unknown assailant casts his deadly spells. Angelica's home life is also in some disarray. Her husband has already cheated on her and may, or may not, be having another affair; her teenage daughter has designs on a thoroughly unsuitable older man; and the shop that she part owns with some fellow witches is constantly being picketed by the local religious community. Just for good measure, Angelica may be falling for the attractive police officer assigned to investigate a flurry of local murders.

`Every Witch Way But Dead' is arguably a little on the raunchy side to be strictly labeled a cozy mystery. However, fans of paranormal mysteries should enjoy this very entertaining novel. For the most part, the story is related in the first person by the main protagonist, Angelica Kane, but the author also skillfully weaves some third person narrative describing the actions of the evil-doer into the proceedings. Visions and dreams can be tricky blighters to add into a storyline. Often, I find that they detract from the main thrust of a story. Here, though, they are described in punchy, vivid prose and contain some of the novel's best writing.

My main criticism is that Angelica's circle of friends is a little too wide. In my opinion, their characters are not fleshed out enough and they were not particularly memorable. Having said that, this is only the first book in the series, so, hopefully, we'll learn more about Heena, Ivy, Marisa and the rest of the gifted friends in later instalments. However, this is a relatively minor quibble. There's plenty in this novel to whet the appetite for the next book in the series.

Many books on influence and persuasion give "5 steps" or "10 laws." This book takes you beyond concept and anecdotes, or "the Walk" of inlfuence and gives you the tools to look and your own communication behavior, or "the Talk." In very practical ways, you can begin to assess your own communication choices and make simple alterations that can help you connect with others and talk about the practical matters of getting things done- together!

A book of significant value

Exercising Influence is one of the most useul books I've read in years. I'm tempted to buy a dozen or so copies as gifts for some of the miserably untalanted negotiators I've encountered in my two decades of practicing law. The book taught me two things (at least) of significant personal value:(1)The skills necessary for selling one's point of view to others can be learned; (2) These same skills overlap and improve one's abilities in the related areas of mobilizing public opinion; motivating partners, employees, and family members; communicating authority; making an impact; exercising leadership at home, in business, and in the community; getting results with and through others; implementing ideas; and making a positive difference. This eminently readable book is filled with charts, graphs, examples, tips, and instructions. What the book teaches is practical and immediately applicable to real-world situations. Kim Barnes'20 years of studying, writing about, and teaching the subject are amply in evidence in Exercising Influence. It deserves, and likely will receive, a wide and receptive readership. Five stars.

Exercising Influence reveals many uncommon, unrecognized flaws of casual, ineffective influencing. The author approaches this skill, as you would a physical skill- build up your strengths, address your weaknesses, try and make mistakes. Repeat. Plus, every chapter concludes with application tips. Highly recommended for anyone trying to lead change- at work, home or in communities.

This book can make it a lot easier to deal with people. Not just difficult people, but everyone in your life. After reading the book and practicing the principles, I began to see how ineffectual many of my influence "tactics" were. They were ineffective in that they didn't help me to get what I wanted, or I did get what I wanted but in a way that made it much harder the next time to get something from that person.

You can apply these influence principles anywhere. I also enjoyed the focus on balance between "receptive" and "expressive" behaviors. It's amazing when you start to use new behaviors how soon you get new results that were near impossible the old way.

Exercising Influence is and excellent book! I have read many books on influence and power and this one tops them all. It is based on solid theoretical underpinnings while at the same time being practical, actionable, and straightforward. I plan to use it extensively in my executive coaching practice. It provides lots of models, action steps, and guidelines which can be used by executives at all levels as well as by individuals in other walks of life. I have been hunting for such a practical explanation of a difficult subject. Pleased to say, I have found it in Kim Barne's book1

Tragic Story - Well Told

What a tragic tale. I was moved by this story for two reasons; first was the incredible journey the author took to tell this tale, and second was the amazing complexities that came together to make this event come to be. If you don't understand the politics of "politics" you may not appreciate how incredible a story this actually is; it is also a very viable explanation for why the Siegel murder was never officially solved. This looked like a very difficult story to write; my hat is off to the author.

I received the book at 2:00pm and finished it before I went to bed that evening. Kudo's!!!

What a great book! If it wasn't for life's interruptions, I wouldn't have put it down. It caught me from the beginning. I don't know much about Bugsy Siegel or the mystery of his murder, but the Author did a wonderful job weaving the tale. Given this information, I wonder if the investigation shouldn't be reopened. I hope this comes out as a movie. I think it would make a great one.

I liked several things about Family Secret. The Author does an excellent job of providing a fascinating and very believable story of how and why Benjamin Siegel's murder was never solved. I always felt Siegel's murder was never solved due to something amazing and this story llives up to that expectation. A very good read. I hope to see this one on the big screen one day. It's a great book, let's hope the film version does it justice!

When I heard Family Secret was a story that claimed to solve the Siegel murder mystery my first impression was one of skepticism. After reading this story however I am now convinced that the Author's have solved the Siegel killing with one of the few theories that makes sense. Wealth, power and political influence were just as strong in 1947 as they are today and this is an accounting of Siegel's demise fit for Hollywood. A very good story, well written and an unexpected treat.
