This book rocks huge!

If you are looking to understand the fundamental technical details of how to use a Geodatabase within the new ArcInfo 8 GIS, this is the definitive book to buy. The technical scope is broad, yet there is sufficient detail to satisfy the most aggressive and hungry of Geodatabase developers. Geodatabase neophytes will find the Quick-Start tutorial quite valuable, and the jaded old wizards will also regularly refresh their knowledge of this fascinating and ground breaking technology. The information is clearly presented in the "At a Glance" style found in books written for Microsoft consumer products. I personally find this text indispensible and use it on a nearly daily basis.

Excellent, the most clearly written e-commerce book out
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 12 total.

Finally, a book on coding e-commerce applications that makes sense. I bought this book because I expect the combination of TV with the Internet to be the next really big thing and I did not want to miss it. The pleasant surprise was that this book helps in all sorts of Internet commerce development, not just interactive television. After slogging through other bit buckets it sure is nice to find a book that clearly explains not just e-commerce on TV but good web interface design in general. After reading this book I'm even able to make forms read and write to a database backend. If you are an intermediate or better HTML developer do your career a favor and buy this book.

A new look at academies and private schools
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 4 total.

I strongly recommend this book for anyone interested in the issue of school choice. The authors here discuss a wide range of schools that historically have served students that have been excluded from public school systems because of ethnicity, gender, culture, or religion. The discussion of relevant issues in the introduction and conclusion is fairly balanced, providing an overview of many sides of the debate. The book includes cases of schools serving white females, free colored males, freed African Americans, the Chinese, Cherokee, and several other Native American tribes.

Must reading for anyone interested in evangelicalism
Helpful Votes: 22 out of 25 total.
Review Date: 2000-06-21
In this book Christian Smith shatters many of the stereotypes that the media and academics hold about American Evangelicals. In it he draws on a series of interviews that he and his colleagues conducted over a three-year period as part of a much larger research project of American evangelicals. It compliments his 1998 book on evangelicals that is far more quantitative in nature.

Specifically, Smith explores how evangelicals think about pluralism, politics, education and gender roles. He concludes his book with a chapter looking at the results of recent surveys on evangelicals. What Smith finds is that evangelicals embrace a wide variety of views that are higly complex and not reducible to a single stereotype. As an example, while evangelicals embrace language that hold husbands up as the leaders of their families, in practice they are just as egalitarian as everyone else.

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in the evangelical subculture. Smith offers a far more nuanced and complex view of evangelicals than many commentators and academics have led us to believe.

Whitcomb reminds us, once again, that our foreign policy has not always been consistent with ourdemocratic ideals.

Read this book to get an important view on the history of the United States. You may not always agree, but it is a thoughtful
work.

I know there are many out there with loved ones in Iraq serving our country. Have you ever wondered what life on the base is like for these soldiers? Though a civilian contractor, and not a solider himself, the author of this book offers gives us the inside scoop about life on the base. The writing is clever. The jokes are witty. The serious moments bring tears to your eyes. Overall this is a great book. I would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in Iraq or to anyone who wants a good read.

An Introductory Self Study Guide on Multivariable-Process Control Applications
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2006-07-27

This book is part of ISA's (formerly "The Instrument Society of America", later "The International Society for Measurement and Control" and now known as "The Instrument, Systems and Automation Society") Independent Learning Modules on Control Principles and Techniques.

Most control problems and applications in the process industries are multivariable in nature. This book is intended as an introductory guide in the procedures which are essential in defining and applying control schemes to multivariable processes. The text is written for engineers and professional practitioners who are responsible or will be responsible for control-systems application and design. A fundamental understanding of feedback control is an essential prerequisite to successfully complete this volume of ISA's Independent Learning Modules. Engineers and practitioners with a process background will find this module easier to follow than those without because systems designs are based on mathematical relationships that describe the process to be controlled, and knowledge of the process to be controlled is a big advantage. Nevertheless the presentation, examples, and exercises will be helpful to all who wish to develop skills in multivariable-control systems design.

The book is written in a clear and practical language by its author. Greg Shinskey is considered the foremost authority on Process Control. I especially like the emphasis that the author puts on teaching how to solve common control problems.

I am an Industrial Practitioner of Process Measurement & Control who has been working in the Process Industries for more than 16 years as an Automation, Instrumentation, Process Safety and Process Control Engineer. My academic background is in electrical and electronics engineering (I am an Electronic Engineer), not in chemical engineering as might be the case of the usual reader of this book, but working in the Oil & Gas Industry all this time, I have been dealing with Chemical-Process Control issues in a day-to-day basics. I consider this book is definitively a must have for the beginner in this area.
