Surprise: The Golden Text Tells You That Bill Wilson Declared God could and would Cure Alcoholics
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-04-17
I know Dick B. quite well. I am an ambassador for Christ. I am a son of God. I am a Bible student. And I'm a former soldier--I know about the spiritual battle too. More than any seem to realize today, Dick has highlighted the same believing in the early A.A. Christian Fellowship. Not much more needs to be said: You need to find the details in this little gem of a book. In a few words, it shows you how Bill Wilson and A.A. Number Three confirmed that the Lord had cured them of alcoholism. It also confirms the later conversions of the A.A. pioneers--they were required to believe in God, come to Him through Jesus Christ, study the Bible, pray, ask His wisdom, obey His will, grow in fellowship, and then experience cure. Whereupon, they were to help others with the same information. They were ambassadors. They were soldiers on the spiritual battlefield. And they knew how to achieve victory. This book is an inspiration for those who want to get well, and who want to say, along with A.A. founders: The Lord has cured me of this terrible disease; and I just want to keep talking about it and telling people. That's the Golden Text of A.A. You can still find it on page 191 of the 4th edition of Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 191.

The winning theme of A.A. for its three first members

"The Lord has been so wonderful to me, curing me of this terrible disease that I just want to keep telling people about it." How many AAs and recovery programs today know that Bill Wilson and A.A. Number Three both used this expression. A.A. Number Three called it The Golden Text of A.A. And you can find the details on page 191 of Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th ed. Yep. It's alive and well today. And if you thumb back a few pages to Dr. Bob's story, you'll see that Bob also twice commented on the cure the pioneers had found. There's lots more in this priceless little book. But it captured the attention of the managers of the Wilson House. It became the subject of one of Dick B.'s Heritage Seminars there. And its words and theme need to be hammered home to those wandering souls that are teaching newcomers more and more often that you can believe in anything you want in A.A., or in nothing at all. Baloney! Not unless you prefer to drink.

This book has become a sensation among my friends and I. We can't stop talking about it! We adore Simon, Lucy, Mrs. Mouse, and the cast of equally wonderful characters. This book follows a young mouse as he goes to his grandmother's house, detailing his many adventures and quarrels with sister Lucy along the way. I would recommend this book to any child, teen, or adult. I could never get tired of this classic story and constantly find myself quoting, acting out, and mentioning Hurry Up, Slowpoke in my daily life. This book will entertain and enlighten anyone lucky enough to get their hands on a rare copy. Well worth your money and time.

A classic storybook.

This book has been a favorite of mine for a long time now. Even though I am not a child, I find the plot and character development in this story extremely good. My friends and I all cherish this classic story, and often refer to it in real life. If you want to have a good time, read a good story, and feel happy, read Hurry Up Slowpoke.

This one is also available on Amazon as an MP3 download ... you can download the entire recording when you find the MP3s ... be sure to click on the name of the MP3 album to get the entire recording (as opposed to just the individual chapters). It's less expensive this way and the sound quality is excellent too, so it's a nice option if you have a computer and/or iPod type device to listen on ...

I am not much for writing reviews, but this book deserves to have at least 1 review. I found this book to be of great value! This book is very weighty, with nice thick pages. The book even includes full page fold-outs of photos that could not be contained in a single page (Total of 4 pages for each pullout photo). This book hits the sights of London that do not get a mention in other books, while including the top sights. Each sight gets at least a paragraph worth of description. If you want a book that does the above, then pick this book up!

Lonesome Cities runs the whole gambit of love poems, from elated to lost and then some. This was my introduction to Rod McKuen, and what an introduction it was.

McKuen's Best--'The Outstretched Hand'
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2003-06-09
My favorite book of love poems by the eclectic talent of Rod McKuen. He's written several poetry books, but this one's the best all because of the poem, 'The Outstretched Hand.' McKuen has done just about everything in life besides being a talented songwriter and entertainer. He's been a Radio D.J., composer, newspaper columnist and now best-selling author. He did the motion picture scores for, 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie' & 'Joanna.' He's recorded 35 record albums of his own songs. He has published 'Stanyan Street and other Sorrows' in 1966 and 'Listen to the Warm.' If you want to know about Rod McKuen style this is a good place to start.

Here's an excerpt from the book of 'The Outstretched Hand' (for Jay Allen):

Each of us was made by God
and some of us grew tall.
Others stood out in the wind
their branches bent and fell.
Those of us who walk in light
must help the ones in darkness up.

For that's what life is all about
and love is all there to life.

Each of us made by God
beautiful in His mind's eye.
Those of us that turned out sowed
should look across our shoulders once
and help the weak ones to their feet.

It only takes an outstretched hand.

This book changed my life

I was diagnosed as "borderline hypoglycemic" when I was 19 after have a rootbeer float at lunch. At the same time I was told that low blood sugar "usually" turns into a full blown case of diabetes and that there was no Known cure for it.

By following the basic guidelines given in this book, I learned how to control my blood sugar level, how to tell when it was getting to low, or was to high. Its all in what is eaten and how often. What you eat today, will effect how you are going to feel tomorrow. After awhile, it all became a habit.

I'm quite happy to say that almost 30 years later, I still watch the signs, symptoms, know when to eat what. And am still "borderline hypoglycemic".

This book has been very helpful with my problems

For many years I could not find an answer to my problems I experienced. I only knew that it was connected with nutrition and the book was an absolute eye opener to me. Now I feel much better having taken notice of Fredericks' advice in this book.

I would appreciate to get in touch with the autor and ask for his e-mail address or normal address, because in the New Low Blood Sugar and You book we found a mistake in the charts ( which did not relate to the page where they are described).
