Hard to find, but worth the trouble.Review Date: 1997-06-02
Little Nellie, a relatively minor character, could fill a whole book by herself. Other characters are familiar, but even better (if possible) versions of those from his more widely-read works. The Aloysha/Myshkin character, vivid and true-to-life, shows the destructive side of innocence in a way that his dopplegangers have not. Every person in this story is so real I felt I already knew them all.
The story involves irresistable passion, unbearable sorrow, gentle love unswayed by ruinous insult, and the impossibility and inevitability of forgiveness. Multiple conflicting emotions battle it out in every breast. I have read this book at least five times. I can't recommend it enough.

Comprehensive compilationReview Date: 2000-05-04
This is not a book of taxonomic keys, like Light's Manual. It is, rather, a book that provides a summary of the biology and ecology of invertebrates of the west coast. The authors provide lists of the best research literature for each animal (up through 1980), as well as photographs and line drawings that show what the animals look like.
This is not a field book, per se, but copies of this book are found on the shelves of most marine biological laboratories in the world, and on the shelves of most invertebrate zoologists who have visited the west coast of the USA.
A professor of mine once said, "That is a 'big boy' book." And, as books on invertebrates go, he is right.
This book is well worth the price!

A Young Soldier's Medley of ExperiencesReview Date: 2001-10-20
of war. No overblown theatrics diminish the drama of Mr. Veatch's experiences. Instead, in a most tender manner, the solder's story unfolds with increasing excitement at each new war venue. This book's beauty are the descriptions of a young soldier's medley of experiences, any one of which was life threatening. This book well illustrates the wondrous nature of the American soldier.

Wonderful American Girl Short StoryReview Date: 2008-02-23
Nice short story for American Girls fans.Review Date: 2004-10-21
This was a nice short story that fans of American Girls books, particularly those who especially enjoyed the Kaya books, are sure to enjoy. It is historically accurate about what life was like for a young Nez Perce girl in 1764, and has beautiful illustrations and a nice message for young girls.
Another excellent Kaya storyReview Date: 2003-06-12
This is another excellent American Girl story. My twelve-year-old daughter is a great fan of Kaya, and I must admit that I like the stories as well. I like the lesson that Kaya learns in this story, plus I like the story and illustrations for themselves. This is a very good book, one that my daughter and I both highly recommend.

An excellent kayaking resourceReview Date: 2007-11-13
This is a great book for the day paddler or the committed water traveler, since it rates the difficulty of each trip, lists places to camp and gives clear directions to launch and recovery points. It covers all the inland waters of the Puget Sound at some level of detail. Maps are a key feature of a book like this, and theirs are excellent. If you paddle the Sound, this book belongs in your truck.

Tsiolkovsky was a bold innovator and inventorReview Date: 2001-04-03
A museum has been opened in Kaluga in the house where Tsiolkovsky died. The exhibits are mechanical devices and models which he made with his own hands. The scientist's manuscripts and copies of his published works are exhibited in glass showcases.
Konstantin Tsiolkovsky's tombstone bears the following prophetic words inscribed under the bas-relief of a rocket: "Mankind will not remain on the earth forever, but, in search of light and space, will at first timidly penetrate beyond the limits of the atmosphere and then finally conquer the spaces of the solar system."
Tsiolkovsky - The Father of Soviet Rocketry.Review Date: 2005-01-14
- Konstantin Tsiolkovsky.
_Konstantin Tsiolkovsky: His Life and Work_ by A. Kosmodemyanksky is the biography of Russian rocket pioneer Konstantin Tsiolkovsky. Tsiolkovsky's work included research into the mechanics of the all metal dirigible, designs for an aeroplane and wind tunnel, as well as the theory of rocketry. Tsiolkovsky also wrote on interplanetary travel as well as writing some science fiction and philosophical works. From an early age Tsiolkovsky showed an interest in mathematics, physics, and natural science; however, he was hampered by various difficulties including near deafness which overcame him after a bout of scarlet fever. Tsiolkovsky began his researches in the theory of the all metal dirigible. However, his work was not recognized or funded sufficiently in tsarist Russia. Later, when the Soviets came to power Tsiolkovsky became recognized for his work in rocketry. Tsiolkovsky believed that man would conquer space and his writing proved prophetic in that he suggested rockets would be used to achieve interplanetary travel. Tsiolkovsky offered several distinct designs for rockets and studied the chemistry necessary to understand their fuel requirements. He also derived an equation which showed the velocity necessary to escape the earth's gravitational field. He was regarded by many as a dreamer and utopian for his ideas on interplanetary travel and the future of the human race. His work continues to be important today and his theories have proven prescient to our modern continuing discovery of space. This book provides an excellent introduction to his scientific and mechanical thought as it pertains to rocketry.

The world renowned Scripps Institute of Oceanography with its pioneers, such as Roger Revelle, is one of the many outstanding features and facts of a well written record of our paradise-on-earth village.
Though not a native of La Jolla, I have visited it since 1938. I moved my residence here in 1985.
I have sent this book to family and friends out of town who have also become intrigued with this Town with the Funny Name.
Indeed, anyone, anywhere, interested in history and the arts will open a book filled with them.
