Nice story, some suspense, not much surprise. I loved Calla's personality. Henry was the typical, perfect romance novel hero. There was only one sex scene, I would have preferred more. I did not like what Henry gave to Frank at the end, sounded too risky to me. Otherwise I liked it. Sexual content: moderate.
Fast, Fun and a wonderful debut!

It's such a delight to discover new talent! I loved this book and anxiously await Claire's next book. Her heroine is spunky and sassy, but very believable, the hero is mysterious in a number of ways that are uncovered at just the right times and while you might think you figure out who the "villain" is, you'll still be surprised at the ending!! congratulations, Claire King on your great first book!

Claire King has hit paydirt in the desert with the creation of Calla and Henry. Yes, this is a formula romance plot but such sassy intelligent genuinely funny dialogue perk this up to a five star read. Since I live a few miles down the road from Claire (although I don't know her personally) I guarantee the details are authentic Idaho stuff - from the tight Wrangler's, expressions like "puffed up like a sage-hen", poking fun at Californians, and using "spud" as a term of endearment. If you think romances have covered it all, try this spudkicking romp.
A witty and clever plot, set in rarely visited Idaho

Scenes change rapidly and seemlessly in this fast moving love story with unusual elements of intrigue and refreshingly honest dialogue. Knight in a White Stetson is a well-structured, strongly visual story with multi-dimensional characters. There is the predictable baggage that each character brings to a relationship, but here it is treated without overbearing in the angst department. Rest assured that this is an author who will be around for a long time. Thea Davis
knocks it out of the park!

Calla meets Henry when he gallantly helps her out with a flat tire, and when he shows up at the ranch she manages, she hires him for the summer. But (you knew there was a 'but' somewhere) she's got a boyfriend, a complete toad called Clark so she tries to ignore her attraction to Henry. As if. This is a funny, sexy story with good minor characters. A good first book by Ms. King.

I commend Mr. Harper for yet another inspirational book aimed at encouraging a generation that needs all the positive encouragement it can get. His committment to not only succeed in his own life; but to also enspire others to do the same speaks well for him and should be applauded. Thank you Hill Harper for not sticking your head in the sand.

Thank you my brother Hill for this wonderful book. I have bought 3 books. Two to my young cousins who graduated from Spellman and Hampton and one for my granddaughters to share who are 16 and 19. What they have told me they have gotten from the book is wisdom beyond what I could have said to them. Wisdom for their life, words to save their lives and make it better. That was what I wanted for these young ladies and you did that for me. God Bless You!
Excellent, Excellent, Excellent. Thank you Hill!!

I'm only about half way through and I can't say enough great things about it. You must read it for yourself. Its an amazing book full of praise, inspiration, honesty, knowledge, quotes, and so much more. It perfect for all ages. It provides a refresher course for anyone who needs to be reminded of how unique and special we all are. As we grow older and life creates more and more obstacles, we often lose focus. Hill Harper puts you right back on track with enough truth to help keep you there.

I loved that he took an active role in the responses AND that he had a variety of women give their responses. I would love every single parent girl to read this book.

This book was given to me after the death of my infant son. Born premature by 4 months and died 25 days later in the NICU. This is a must have for any parent who experiences the death of an infant (stillborn or shortly after birth). Mr. Stetson's account was so close to my own. Similarities such as the date of his son's birth (our son's due date), the day of his death (the same as our son's), and the woman buried next to their precious son (same first and middle name as my own). I was a bitter-sweet reminder of my personal experience just months ago. I could not put this book down and completed it in only one sitting. I highly recommend it for anyone who may have experienced an infant death while still in the hospital. A box of tissues is a necessity.

This book was an encouragement to me and my family after the loss of our daughter through stillbirth at 38 weeks. Brad's story of the loss of his son and his and his wife's feelings and their struggles down the road of grief helped me to know that what I was feeling was "normal".

I recieved the book earlier today and although I had a lot of other homework I could not put it down and read the whole thing in one sitting. Their pain is so real and the book shows the awesome hand and will of God in their life!

This book is a must for any parent who has experienced the death of a child. This man's true story is an inspiration for all bereaved parents. Once I began reading it I could not put it down. I tearfully read and re-read the heart wrenching and touching experience of Brad and Nina. Brad speaks candidly from his heart and one can not help but feel his pain and sorrow. This is a story of a young couple given a situation which tries the soul. Yet, they persevere in the name of the Lord. This is truly a story of love.

This is a deeply personal story that moved me far more than I expected. I'm a dad that went through fears of my soon-to-be-born child's health, but never the pain that Brad and Nina went through. Very, very well written. Brad's first person point of view really grabs you into the story. I found myself getting up and giving my kids an extra special hug after I finished each session of reading.
A word of note -- be close to a box of tissues when you are reading - male or female; it's that powerful! But realize that the story ends showing the Stetson's strength and hope. Amazingly, you'll feel stronger yourself.
Bravo, and thank you for sharing your story with the rest of us!

I am a torts law professor and this is one of the two books I recommend my students use as supplementary reading. It is a relatively short but comprehensive and very well written summary of the material. Torts is a required course in all law schools and this book will help any student get a more complete understanding of the topic. Students, will, of course, need to read and prepare the assignments from whatever text the professor assigns. This book will work best as a supplement to those texts. By the way, the other book I recommend to my students is The Forms and Functions of Tort Law by Abraham.

I'm currently a 2L and last year, I used a plethora of study aids. I found this book to be the most helpful for Torts class. The book explains the history behind the subjects and then what the substantive law is. It lays everything out very logically and is organized in a way that makes sense as well. While it doesn't have any comprehensive case summaries, if you truly want to understand the law of torts, you can't go wrong with this book.

This book was recommended by my torts professor as a supplement to readings. I found it extremely helpful and a great overview of the torts material. My professor was nice enough to tell us which pages would be beneficial to read which was helpful but the glossary of terms is great for going back to a topic for a quick refresher of the subject. The book is well written but simple enough for a first year to easily grasp the topics covered. Some other pros? It mentions specific important tort cases most likely covered in ALL first year torts classes (Palsgraf among many). I think this book would be a great review for the final as well as using it as a supplement to assigned class readings.
I have the older version and it seems some of the law is not current, I do know the book has been republished in 2006 and therefore might include those revisions. Definitely a must for first year law students.

This book is the secondary text book in my torts class and was highly reccommended by my professor. If you are confused about anything, this book will make any complex theory easy to understand.

This is a really great book - it also is small ( less weight to carry in bookbag ) - it has some short commings ( light on product liability ) - I used this with Epstein on Torts ( Aspen Hornbook ) Shapo on Torts ( West Hornbook ). You will find that all authors give some topics less attention than others - hence the plethora of hornbooks. Emmanuals & Gilberts are not so good.. Also - get the California Baby Bar Essay problems and answers - this is the best resource for practice exam taking. If you're lazy - get the Black Letter Law series book on torts for very concise rules - I used this as a rule book to capsulate the restatements so I could remember them for the test

I got a lot of enjoyment out of carving this character. Mr. Stetson's
instructions and the step-by-step photos are easy to follow and you will be proud of the result. One caution: Mr. Stetson's old man has an over-the-horizon fixed stare that doesn't look natural. And so did my copy. Use care when you set the head. I made mine a fly-swatter to carry and now he seems to have a reason for staring at the ceiling!
I have most if not all of the caricature carving books and in my opinion this is one of the two best. Highly recommended.

Dave Stetson is probably one of the top caricature carvers in the nation. He views the world around him in a unique way. His approach to teaching woodcarving stems from a desire to teach the student beyond the project, to enable the student to be more creative and carve on his own. This book allows the student to do that. The explanations are concise, with step by step photos and explanations. The photo gallery has a wonderfully diverse subject matter. And Dave's style of teaching is loaded with humor. It's a great addition to my woodcarving book library.

I had to laugh when one reviewer mentioned that her copy of this cookbook was "worn to a frazzle"! That describes mine to a "T"! I have a paperback version and each page is now loose and just tucked in there...sometimes out of order, but in there nonetheless. It's the cookbook I reach for when I want an authentic and excellent recipe for all those wonderful ethnic dishes. Almost every recipe you can think of is in there whether you're Scandinavian, German, Cuban, Jewish or many, many others. Potato Dumplings to Psari Plake (Greek fish dish), Tourtiere (French Canadian meat pie) to Plum Pudding. Someday I'll have to buy the hardcover edition...and start messing up all those favorite pages with flour, etc. all over again!

Over the past few years all things Wilberforce have arrived on my desk. There have been articles, two biographies, booklets, a dramatic film, a documentary, and Creating the Better Hour: Lessons from William Wilberforce, a book of essays about William Wilberforce's life and legacy.
The book's editor, Chuck Stetson, did an outstanding job of selecting a wide variety of writers all of whom see William Wilberforce as a model for thoughtful, zealous, and effective political engagement. The writers are Christian and Jewish, Protestant and Catholic, Republican and Democrat, Liberal and Conservative, scholarly and political. Together they look at the history of Wilberforce's fight to abolish the slave trade and then slavery, at modern day slavery and the need to complete the legacy of the abolition movement, and at the ways in which Wilberforce serves as a model for bringing about effective cultural change.
The essays are readable, informative, and thought-provoking. In addition, accompanying each essay is an "Extended Observation" comprising questions for discussion, Bible readings, practical suggestions for implementing the conclusions reached, and an appropriate prayer selected from the Bible. This makes the book accessible to small groups, Sunday school classes, and Christian schooling.
As Rick Warren writes in the book's forward, Wilberforce "understood that the purpose for having influence is to speak up for those who have no influence...." The essays convey a portrait of someone who is a model for the wise use of influence on behalf of the powerless and challenge the reader to greater stewardship of influence on behalf of the powerless today.

The 200th anniversary of William Wilberforce's historic legislation concerning slavery has resulted in a large number of publications, organizations, and events. All have the same focus: To remind the world of the work and dedication of this very unique man and the times in which he worked.
Wilberforce's novel and creative approaches to social changes not only ended the slave trade between the UK and US, but also started more than 70 other organizations, all of which improved the state of his fellow countrymen and the world, and many of which are still active today.
The overall quality of the many published works stands as a testimony to the man, Wilberforce, and his hard and tireless work to correct the wrongs and evils he saw around him.
This book, "CREATING THE BETTER HOUR: Lessons from William Wilberforce," is unique in its approach. Rather than a single author or view, the book brings together twenty authors who find themselves within the broad sphere of Wilberforce's influence.
Opening with the William Cowper poem from which the book's title is taken, the book continues with a forward by Rick Warren and preface from the editor, Chuck Stetson.
The book then proceeds through four major topics:
* Six articles on the background of the Clapham Group and how they created the first organized campaigns for social change.
* Five articles on the effect of Wilberforce's work on abolition and slavery over the next 200 years throughout the world and the work that still needs to be done.
* Nine articles that provide insight, direction, and motivation for all citizens to take action in their own communities.
* The book closes with a call to action and practical steps for doing so.
Bottom Line: Read all you can read about William Wilberforce. His life, lessons, and his example of practical action can be applied to your community, state, and country.
But whatever you read, read this book first and last as an introduction and summary of the work that is yet to be done.
From Rick Warren's Preface: "Today our world needs a new generation of people like Wilberforce. I pray this book spurs you on to make a difference just as he did."
And so do I.

I read this book around 1977. It facinated me and I still remember how captivating it was. I remember the young lady came to America by boat and had a hard time of it for a while. The Iron Peacock theme was set up around something that used to be set in front of fireplaces. It was a symbol of love between the young man and woman - the iron peacock.
It's one book from my childhood I still remember!

I have always been an avid reader, and even though I am now "forty-something" I still remember "The Iron Peacock" from my teenage years. And since I used to borrow between six and 10 books every two weeks from the library, you can understand why I'm giving it a 10 rating. It is probably one of the first "romance" novels I ever read and since it dealt with American history as well, it was doubly memorable for me. I still remember admiring the heroine's, Joanna, courage as she faced life in a new country among strangers, and thinking how I'd love to meet a guy just like Ross. I'd love to track down a copy to give to my granddaughter Lindsay when she gets a bit older -- but not before I read it (again!) myself, of course.

In terms of Jewish culture, it isn't very often that we are privy to the thoughts of the cantor. More familiar are those ideas formed and presented to the congregation by the rabbis. In 'Jewish Sacred Music & Jewish Identity' the cantor's voice is heard in the analytical sense, particularly pertaining to the role of traditional music in worship. The book begins with a general look at the philosophy and history of music in Jewish worship. The following chapters continue the discourse, but are told through the writings cantor William Sharlin.
Overall, this was an exceptionally interesting and insightful read. It offers strong ideas in terms of where Jewish services are headed and how to preserve their holiness for future generations through music. A must-own for cantors, cantors-in-training, university religious studies and music history libraries.

This is an important book for anyone who is serious about Jewish music. It addresses the major issues facing synagogue music today, including what the use of pop music in services says about Jewish identity, and how both tradition and innovation are essential to the character of Jewish sacred music. Cantor Sharlin came to my synagogue many years ago as a scholar-in-residence, and spoke brilliantly about the role music plays in Jewish religious life. I am thrilled that a collection of his insightful writings has finally been published.
