The 100-year history of the first British (and all Scottish players on that side, to be noted) side to win the European Cup. Great stories and a bunch of vintage photos make this the best read on Celtic's glorious history.

"Once more, O Lord!"
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 2002-05-24
The preface by David Mains from "Chapel of the Air" should serve as a cavaet to the lukewarm believer; "Before you read Glory Filled the Land, it's only fair for someone to post a warning sign: Let the casual reader beware!

This small quotation perfectly sums up this account of the Welsh Revival of 1904-05. Mains is assuming that if you have picked up this book you have done so because of your dissatisfaction with your spiritual life. I know that this is the reason I bought the book.

Writing to the Corinthian Church about Israel, Paul said that "these things were given to us for examples;" this is why Christians should read this book. Because it shows what the Spirit of G-d longs to do in His people.

Through each page I can feel the Holy Spirit searching my hear for all that does not please Him; at times I feel like the moth, which is both attracted to and repelled by the flame. Holiness has this effect on me.

This is a book that has to be experienced to be understood. Mains adjures the reader to "Proceed at your own risk," and rightfully so because how could any spiritually-minded person read what the Lord did during this revival and then go back to the stale walk you had with Him prior to reading this book. I can honestly say that this little book has put me mightily under conviction and, like King David said in the Psalms, "I shall be satisfied when I awake with Thy likeness."

A Reform Study for Practitioners, Policymakers and Researchers
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-11-25
The authors examine elementary schools in two American
cities to identify those features that distinguish effective schools from others.
The study builds upon and advances the literature of school reform, identifying those common features of schools that enable all students to achieve.

The two cities in the study, one on the border with Mexico, the other a large
Northeastern city, are very different with respect to their populations, policy contexts and other elements.

The book provides a very detailed examination of schools in each city, and then identifies those features that contribute to better student results. Some, such as principal
leadership and focus reinforce earlier studies. Others, such as cultural continuity of staff with students, are not as well studied, and point to newer ground.

The study discusses the implications of its findings for researchers, policymakers, and school practitioners. Because of the differences between the cities, the
findings of common elements associated with high quality are sharply drawn and will be useful in influencing research and policy. The authors are detailed and delve into highly complex issues to highlight the common elements of good schools. The overall structure of the book is straightforward, clear and logical.

As someone who has worked in this field for many years and knows the authors, I think this study makes a valuable contribution to our understanding of how to help all young people succeed in school.

Cheat sheet for snowsports!

If you take notes everytime you have a lesson or reach a breakthrough, your notebook will eventually become this book!

As a ski & snowboard instructor myself, I can confirm that this book includes all the concepts & movements that are critical to be a better skier and snowboarder.

The authors did a great job compiling all the concepts in such a compact, handy book. Each concept is first summarized in a sentence and then there are a brief paragraph and a picture associated to explain and visualize the concept. Don't get fooled by the size of the book because each movement might take you years of practice with good coaches to perfect it.

However, this is NOT a "how-to" book! It is best used as a refresher for what your instructors have taught you last season or this morning. Read the book once before your ski trips and review it again after each day of skiing.

Another positive aspect of the book is that it covers other snow toys, such as snow-bikes and snowblades, which are fun and gaining popularity in many resorts but no formal instruction is available.

Overall, this is an excellent handbook for anyone who enjoy snowsports, from beginners to experts, students to instructors.

An excellent book - which demonstrates the providence of God in the "little" nuances of life. Dr. Campbell's wisdom and insight makes this a captivating read. I could not put the book down. It is also a great little study guide for a SS or Bible Study class.

First of all let me explain that I have no children, have had no children and probably will have no children; and yet this book sits prominently on my shelf. I picked it up at a thrift store a few years ago and have treasured it ever since. What caught my eyes were, obviously, the illustrations, which are rich and an enormous amount of fun. I highly recommend this book to anyone introducing their children to the alphabet or, like me, has any interest in beautifully designed books.

Anacreon makes it more than worthwile.
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2005-04-12
Anacreon lived in the sixth century B.C. His poems are about wine, love and getting old. They are easy to read thanks to his humour, vivid expressions and originality.
For hundreds of years after the dead of Anacreon there were a lot of anonymous imitators who wrote poems called the Anacreontea. They also had a lot of success in their time.

One of the best poems from the Anacreontea tells how one night, when a storm raged outside, Eros knocks at the door of Anacreon, saying he's only a poor child lost in the tempest. Anacreon who feels pity for Eros, lets him in. They sit down at the fireplace. After a while Eros feels better again, takes his bow-saying he wants to check it-and shoots an arrow in the hart of Anacreon. Eros laughs and says: have courage! My bow is fine but I fear you will be in love again soon!
It would be more than worthwile to buy this book only for Anacreon and the Anacreonta

This is a must in any urgent care/ER ....photos are excellent and just the right amount of written text to have a working review of almost everything one would see in these settings. It has always been easier to learn info. when it is hooked up to a photo. This is one of those that should and could be read cover to cover by any primary care/ER physician. It expands your differential greatly. I'm ordering my second one tonite.

This is a very good book by Mr. Campbell. There are a number of very surrealistic and spooky scenes in it, such as disembodied faces that slid along the floor, a bunch of bizarre clowns that put on a strange almost threatening performance just to name a couple. It involves a man writing a book about a long forgotten silent film star and his supressed films. The search takes the main character to several places where he encounters people who seem unnaturally agressive towards him. A very intriguing section deals with a person on a messageboard whose screen name is Smilemime. Smilemime is a major thorn in the main characters side throughout and creates a mystery as to who he is. This is a fun and concise read that has short chapters, so it reads pretty quickly. My favorite Campbell book remaines Incarnate, but this one isn't far behind.
