Raising special needs children books are hard to come by. Most of the books do not address the needs of a lot of parents. A Special Kind of Parenting was very well written and an exception resource. I highly recommend this book! Joyce Henderson and Julia Good did a fabulous job explaining a lot of the things special needs children require.

This is just a wild guess, but I somehow suspect this book has nothing to do with "vaginal speculums." Just a thought.

Yes, it is a great book. One finds himself immediately going to the years covered by the book when growing up.

Some great pictures of Cardinal stars, too.

Great source for quick information about state government

At a glance, I was able to view the sources of revenue for the state general fund to answer questions about what role the motor vehicle excise tax (MVET)--the subject of a '99 ballot initiative -- plays in state income. It's a great book to get an overview of how our state works!

A hard to find gem

The Stenciled Strawberry, by the Junior League of Albany, is a true gem of a cookbook. I have owned this cookbook for over 10 years and I consult it before planning dinner, a party or my Christmas baking. The recipes are not confined to just one specialty, but a collection of recipes handed down thru generations, from local restaurants and even some of locals that have gone on to become household names. Now, what truly makes this cookbook a find is that every recipe contains not only simple instructions but indications of how many people each recipe will serve, how much preparation is involved and whether the recipe can be made ahead of time to be served later. This cookbook should be considered a primer for the kitchen!

Makes space interesting!
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-08
Santa brought this book this year and it's quite interesting. Superman guides you on a tour through space, sort of, and really gets into all the extra explanations, i.e. what the planets are really made of, etc. There's some interesting Superman trivia inserted throughout the book as well which will make this book interesting to Superman collectors too. Very educational book, very easy reading, which will make studying space very exciting to young readers. Highly, highly recommend!

Wow! A Sensual Feast for the Eyes!

This is a wild book!!!!!!! It is full of very wild art photos of crazy scenes, such as Michel in a bathtub full of feathers, another has him in a loin cloth hanging on a cross after a strange bunch of scenes with a dungeonmaster-looking fellow....it is almost indescribable!...it is ALWAYS a topic of conversation when I bring it out! This book is certainly worth obtaining and keeping. It is sensual art in high form.

Time Machine to Those Wonderful Little League Years
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2001-05-30
If you've ever played baseball you'll connect immediately with this book. If you've never played...you'll wish you had.

Mr. Mathews writes about a set of young boys in the best years of their youths playing a game. But they could be any set of boys. You'll undoubtedly see yourself or your son or daughter in many of the characters.

In a way, it's not even about baseball. It's about the ability of children to make life mean more than cell phones and pagers. It's a translator for the secret language that children speak, but few adults do. You'll get an insight into the minds of the nine-year-old boys, and you'll find yourself reminiscing about those days when you were so little.

You'll surely smell the dirt and the dust that rise above the field when the slide came in just under the tag. You'll feel the wind rise out of the west and watch it push the hit into a triple, and you'll hope that Felix's dad can beat cancer.

Mr. Mathews takes the reader on a trip to a gas station as the boys attempt to trick the clerk into believing that Rand McNally is a city in southern Indiana.

He walks you through the rules of the 'Going Down Game,' in which batters have to answer questions about world geography, or become 'beamed' (as the boys say) by the incoming pitch to their cranium area.

Anyone who purchases this book will get more than their money's worth. They'll fall in love with these kids, and maybe, this game.

It's about baseball. It's about children. But most of all, it's about life.
