Leagues Books

At less than 100 pages and easy reading, I read this in an hour. It is a good overview of umpiring for Little League. It does not go into details on all the rules, but gives an overview of what an umpire does there. The pictures were helpful in seeing what hand signals to use and for where the umpire should and should not stand for different situations.

Throughout the book are 26 different brief situations that you have to decide upon. The answers are short, clear and helpful. Overall, I think it is an excellent introduction to the topic (I plan to use some of the ideas at the next game that I umpire).

I have read this book and enjoyed it immensely. It is very informative and written with a heart. I happen to have lost my copy in a move to another country, so if Mr. Shearon happens to read this, please contact me so I can buy another copy!!

This is definitely a worthwhile book for all fans of the Cape Cod Baseball league. Mr. Thomas did an excellent job interviewing many of the players, coaches and umpires that help make the League the best collegiate league in the country. Great job! Looking forward to reading his next book.

Out of print cookbook from town where my children grew up. What a great surprise for my oldest daughter on her birthday to get the recipes she's always loved AND seeing her friends' moms names again!

This is the best sports book I've ever read (and the only football book that I've read.) The book tells most of the details about the Carolina Panthers. The book has good photos of the players and coaches. Since I live near Charlotte, NC, the Panthers are my favorite team. I'd love to see a live game sometime.

I have made several goodies out of here, their desserts are fabulous, and the salads are great. I always get complements on the food, and I purchased this book for a friend. A definite for the CookBook Shelf..

This is my mother's cookbook, and I'm a little embarassed to admit that I've been sitting with it, happily reading the recipes for hours. This book is a delightful celebration of Colorado, with recipes popular in the state, gorgeous landscape photography, and even quotes on some of the pages from history books relating certain turning points in the state's foundation. The recipes are organized according to the seasons and my mouth salivates just looking at them! The dishes recommended are delicious, sometimes unique, and wonderfully seasonal. I highly recommend this book; it is a treat!

This book is great! It has information about the NHL and hockey dating back into the 1800s, such as who won the Stanley Cup each year from when it was first introduced to the 2000 season, as well as photos, season highlights, articles, and facts for each season.

By reading this book you'll learn information about the different professional leagues that led to the formation of the NHL, and well as the first ever official hockey game, where the first pro hockey league was located, and which teams and star players were involved. It also includes a table of teams containing all of the teams, which city they've played in, they're old and new names, and the years as each franchise.

Bobby Orr's foreword is also interesting, as it gives his view on hockey and his career.

I would strongly recommend this book to any hockey fan!

I wish the world my son needs to learn about didn't include things as ugly as racial discrimination--but since it does, this book will be a great way to illustrate it in a context that he'll be able to understand (Little League baseball). I'm glad I happened across this important book.

Tonight we're having "James Island Shrimp Pie" P.60 for dinner, the reciept(sic) is C.1860. I skipped the next one "Popham Shrimp Pie", due to the use of "1/2 Pound Lard" as the second ingredient. I don't want myself or any of my family to die at an early age of obesity or heart attack. But if you have a brain. most if not all of these recipes are adaptable, and they do bring a mirror of the past to the present, many of which are no longer recoverable. If you're an accomplished cook who understands how to adapt these recipes or afficionado of Early American Arcadian/Creole cooking (Time frame: French & Indian Wars - Civil War) this is a "must have". I highly recommend it ! (Do you know what a "Cooter" is ? I do !)
