I bought this book for my dad and he loves it. He is retired and likes to do things with his hands. He used it as a reference and said he also enjoyed the nice pictures and ideas for other patterns and tecniques.

The book details about 30 projects, some of which are simple enough for beginners to get to learn their tools (hanging display shelf, candle shelf) and some others are more complex and will definitely need more than one week-end to build(corner cupboard, narrow Amish cabinet, dry sink). At the beginning of each section, you get a picture of the original antique from which the plans were "extracted" and some of its history. You then get detailed instructions for building the replica.

The book also includes terrific "ShopSmarts" tips such as resawing techniques, raised panel techniques and antique finishing methods.

I'd only wish there was another book (part 2?) with some more projects.

If you want to learn to draw charicatures, this is the best book I've found so far. It has step by step lessons, as well as SO many great charicatures by Robert Gautier. He explains the process in great detail, shows examples of what to do as well as what not to do, how to get the look you're after - whether it's more realistic, or more free flowing. And he also explains why certain materials will produce the look you want to achieve moreso than others.

Full of great ideas. Inspirational. Traditional to contemporary concepts provides countless solutions to every window, and door, in your home. Fabric advice. How-to with ease. Even cushions and table styles. No homemaker should be without this book, don't ever lend it, you'll never get it back. Definitely one book I'll never let go at a garage sale.

THIS BOOK CONTAINS EXCELLENT INFORMATION FOR THOSE WHO TAKE PRIDE IN DOING IT YOURSELF AND FOR THOSE WHO NEED SOLUTIONS FOR PROBLEM DECORATING AREAS BUT DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS FOR THOSE FLOORS, WALLS, ETC., WHICH THEY MIGHT CHOOSE.

I found this an excellent way for an absolute beginner to construct a professional looking deck.

By using simple clear concise language, reinforcing it with clear pictures, and by not being patronising, I felt new levels of confidence in tackling such a large scale project.

I thouroughly recommend this book to anyone that wants to produce professional standard work but did not want to submit to the humilitation of asking professionals for their advice.

This book was a lifesaver for my deck projects -- built two decks in my back yard. Looked through a couple of other books, but this one won hands down.

person. You learn alot from all the books and tv show.

Excellent book with very good illistrations,pictures,and tips for doing it yourself. I've refered the info in this book over and over, I find the layout very user friendly.
