In the 50s and 60s we had the Coventry Climax 750cc race engine for cars. The present day equiv. is the Reliant 750/850. This book covers that engine completely and in depth.

The BEST "Theater and Kids" Book
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2004-04-13
At my organization we create original theater with kids, and when people ask me to recommend a book to help them do similar work, I tell them that this is the only one worth buying. I've been waiting for years for it to be published. It's simply the most honest, most specific, most practical, most inspiring, easiest to read... I especially recommend it for anyone working in a classroom setting (in or out of school). The book more or less takes you through how to get kids to create and perform a piece of theater that matters to them. It follows the process of a high school theater class creating a performance piece, and includes much text from the brilliant teacher, Jan Mandel, and from the students themselves. It begins with community building exercises and progresses through a number of well-conceived steps to the final performance, giving concrete outlines and suggestions on everything from warm-ups, to writing prompts, to the rehearsal process, to how to handle it when teens make fun of delicate subject matter. Buy it! Trust me. Buy it.

Very useful and interesting
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2001-12-31
This is a comprehensive handbook on the methods and techniques of archaeology for amateurs of all ages. It presents a brief introduction to the cultures of early man
in North America and provides detailed information on the practical aspects of the fascinating and fast-growing hobby of archaeology. Photographs, maps, and
drawings complement and explain the text.

Step by step, in nontechnical language, this volume shows the reader how to locate and excavate an archaeological site. As an examplc of the mechanics of an
archaeological survey, it analyzes an area of successful excavation near New Bedford, Massachusetts. It explains how to make a preliminary survey and where to obtain
topographical maps, advises what equipment and precautions are required, and suggests how the techniques of prehistoric archaeology may be applied to the newer
fields of historic and underwater' archaeology.

For those who have already researched and selected their site, the book tells how to organize a "dig," how to lay out a "grid"; discusses the various methods of
excavation and when to employ each.
A separate chapter tells how and when to record information, as well as what cameras and lenses to use in archaeological photography. Other chapters explain how to
identify and classify artifacts; how to clean, preserve, and repair archaeological finds; how finds are dated; and how to write final reports on a site.

Valuable appendixes include a glossary of terms and an index; suggestions for further reading, films, and slides; information about study courses, sites, and museums to
visit; and laws governing the excavation of antiquities. The local, regional, and national societies listed are excellent sources of information on archaeological activity in
specific areas.

Evil thieving Sherlock Holmes
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2004-12-10
Yep this book pretty much gives you a take on what would happen if genius detective Sherlock Holmes were instead genius cat burglar Justice Raffles. Raffles commits high collar petty theft for fun and profit. He steals jewelry etc and uses his connections as a gentleman to sniff out new opportunities. At one point as he describes the many middle men involved in reselling a piece of stolen jewelry as he explains to Bunny how crime doesn't pay - financially anyway. Often he steals something just because of the challenge involved in stealing it, which leads to interesting and varied stories for us to read. Bunny is his unwitting and later witting accomplice. He narrates the stoires, as a sort of Watson to Raffles' Holmes.

These were very charming stoires. If you like Sherlock Holmes and other victorian fiction then you will probably like these.

A Classic Begging for a Reprint
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-05
I have access to a 1937 printing of this work. Yes, some of the projects involve lead, mercury, or something similar and thus are not really safe in today's world. The majority of the projects are doable and usable today. Even more than that this book provides a look into another time in America. We have lost the period in the United States when a family had a workshop somewhere and were able to make such things as a matter of course. One of my grandfathers had a full blacksmith's shop at his home. He died before I was born; however, I remember seeing all of the tools on the wall, an anvil, and bellows in his work area. How many of us today even have a clue how to do many of these things today? What have we lost therebye?
I would love for someone to reprint this work much as many of the early Popular Mechanics project books for adults and children have been recently reprinted. Thanks for reading.
