Hi, I'm another Joe Peacock, author of the Mentally Incontinent website and book, as well as other projects and books. I'm not the guy who wrote this particular book, just for clarity's sake.

I will say that I was a bit suprised when I went to go register my books with Amazon and saw this book already in the system with my name on it, espeically since it's not one of my books. "Joe Peacock" isn't exactly a common name. Because of that, I had to check it out.

Fantastic work, other Joe! The poetry is deep and emotional, and the metaphors used are not kitchy or cliche. You've put together a great body of work here, sir.

I know Joe!

Scholarly, lively, and fun

It looks big, scholarly, and intimidating. It is big, scholarly, lively, fascinating, and fun. (I had it on the shelf for several years, afraid to bring it down because it was so thick. But once I started reading it -- short chapters, lively prose, cogent discussions -- I wished it were longer because I didn't want it to end.) Although obstensibly a history of trail-building in America's northeast, it is just as much a story of humanity's relation with the environment -- and in this role it is far more trenchant and closely reasoned than Simon Schama's "Landscape and Memory". When I started, I thought I would like only those chapters about mountain regions where I had already hiked, but in fact I found the chapters on regions I hadn't yet hiked to be even more fascinating.

Simply the best book on Hiking in New England!

A friend turned me on to this book. I had passed on it a few times due in part to it's huge size. However I found that it was everything I ever wanted to know about the mountains and forests of New England. It's written in a very accesible manner that never leaves the reader without a smile for long. It's very obvious that the text contained in this book was researched with an artists attention to detail. And it shows in the nearly 200 pages of appendix!

To those in the North East the name Guy Waterman and his wife Laura have long been synonymis with hiking and climbing in the the region. A lot of hulabaloo was made over his death and the poetic yet puzzling statement it makes. In any case, after reading this book it becomes easy to see why he was so well loved, respected, and admired by so many of his peers.

If this book was $100.00 it would still be worth it. The amount of labor that went into this book is priceless. It was very obviously a labor of love. Buy it and read it.

This book is a great indepth look at mountainiering in the northeastern United States. It has to be the most complete history of the northeast mountains. It starts back when Darby Fields and many others started to explore the area, and runs through the nineteen eighties. Laura and Guy Waterman researched for ten years in order to put this book together. They are both acomplished writers and have a way of making a history exciting and humorous. It is a great tribute to the early settlers of the area and how hearty they were. I recomend this book to anyone who has done some hiking in the northeastern United States or are just interested in the history of the land. This is a must buy for all serious northeastern mountainiers.

~Before giving this book to my daughter I took the time to read it myself. And I did it within no time. It held me from beginning to end without pause. This is how a book should be written. The scenes are set well so that one knows where the story is taking place and the characters become your friends in the first page itself. The story about three children trying to save a forest from deforestation, help a small c disappearances of fruits and animals from the forest is unique and completely original. Carl Gordon is a very creative writer with an eye on society and his story cleverly blends the ways of the real world with fantasy. When you read it you'll know what I'm talking about. This book is ideal for both children an adults. Highly recommended!

A thoroughly good read.

Books like these ought to be on everyones book shelf. 'The Forest Keepers' is a very good novel that cleverly blends story with social themes. The characters are real flesh and blood that exist in the real world, and not sterotypes. The plot is original with clever twists at every corner and you can't help but be curious as to the outcomes, most of which will surprise you. It's only after you've finished turning all the pages do you realise how well the author had you hooked.

I enjoyed "The Forest Keepers" very much. It has a very good plot with interesting characters and some wonderful twists. I think this is the kind of book that children would want to read and adults would want to read for themselves and to their children. I read it in no time at all and I think good books do that, just carry the reader along.

I was a little intimidated by the 700 pages and the numerous characters, but the great narration, the gritty detailing, and the fast moving pace made for a great read. I found myself quickly moving thrrough the book and regretting that the ending was coming up so fast. I loved it.

I got the book and couldn't put it down. Reads real well even though it's over 700 pages. An excellent plot with very realistic characters and some shocking story twists. The book gives a good insight into how the mob really works. If you're into reading great mob stories, then this book is a must.

I have to admit, I was a little skeptical about this book... never heard of Mr. DeVico; but I pickedp up a copy of his book and was very pleasantly surprised. The story really goes into the mob lifestyle, and there are some great "hit" scenes. If you like mob stuff, you should add this one to your collection. Primo stuff.

Trey Bienville gives new meaning to the phrase "Flaming Camp Fires" In addition to the mouthwatering recipes, there is the outrageous humor! A fun book with recipes like "Southern Decadence Shrimp Creole," "Mardi Gras Queen Cake," "Brandied Cherry Clafouti: From A Gay Vampire on St. Charles Avenue," & "Penelope's Pasta Jambalaya." Gay or straight, this book will keep you in stitches. Definitely the most unusual cookbook I've seen in some time. The dedication in the book reads "For Noah, Eli, Lennon & Croix, May your warm, sweet southern buns always be soft yet firm and buttered just right!" According to the book... future titles in this series will be called 1) "Gay Gourmet Goes Down Under," 2) "Trey Does Gay Paris" & 3 "San Francisco Queer Cuisine." It also says that Chef Trey studied culinary arts in the historic French Quarter of his hometown, New Orleans, Louisiana. A weird & wonderful addition to any collection!

It is very difficult to find good information regarding this breed, especially in book format. This book is great! If you are considering sharing your life with a German Pinscher (GP,) I highly recommend reading this book first, in addition to talking to as many owners and breeders as possible. GP's are a big challenge and are not the dog for everyone, but for the right "parents" they can be pure joy! For the current parents of a GP, the book offers additional training information and insight to the GP mind. I truely enjoy this book and refer back to it often. I highly recommend it.

Comments from my son

Review Date: 2008-03-06
I ordered this book for my adopted son who is now incarcerated. I happened upon Dr. Fauteck's book while searching for something to help my boy. He is reading it now and I will submit a review of the book at a later date. This review is for Dr. Fauteck himself. I contacted him directly for advice and requested some direct help for my son and even though he is ill and very busy he took the time to help us. It takes a special person to bless the lives of people he doesn't even know. I appreciate his time and efforts to change peoples lives by writing this book and being an inspiration to all of us. GOD BLESS HIM ALWAYS!!!

********NEW INFORMATION*******

I will just quote my son's letter to Dr. Fauteck in its entirety (I have cleaned it up a bit, though :o)

First off, I want to thank you for taking the time out of your day to write me and give me some words of wisdom. I read your book and I must say you opened my eyes to alot of things I have been worrying about lately. After reading your book I see that it's going to be hard if I really wanna stay straight, which is what I am getting myself ready for because this time around I am understanding the true meaning of freedom. This is not my first time being locked up. Since my teenage days, I have been getting locked up for packing guns, selling drugs, you name it and I had my hands in it and now I am paying for it. But, I want you to know that I am thankful for your book and if you have any other books out I would love to read them because I am really trying to get all the information I can before I am set free. This time around I am trying to stay free!!

With much respect,

Adam Wysinger

I believe in my boy and the power he has in him to change and to live a fulfilling life before it's too late. With Dr. Fauteck's help, I know he is that much more inspired.

GOING STRAIGHT
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2004-12-01
GOING STRAIGHT is a comprehensive and exceptional self-help
manual for criminal offenders who want to build a respectable
life after punishment. This book was written by a uniquely
credible and knowledgable author-mentor, whose straight-forward
advice can be of value for both pre-release and post-release
rehabilitation.

Prisoners, parolees, ex-convicts need a role model, a mentor--
someone who can teach from similar life experiences. Someone
who can help them overcome not only society's dismal image of
offenders, but also their own low expectations and self loathing.

The author, Dr. Paul Fauteck, was an ex-con who, after doing
four years of hard time, eventually became a successful and
highly respected forensic psychologist. In his book, he shows
the offender how to adapt, to network, and succeed in a world
that few criminals hardly know exists.

Unlike some experts, Fauteck doesn't cut offenders any slack or
responsibility for making the most out of the rest of their
lives. His book teaches how to begin building a worthwhile life
day by day with practical coping skills, self awareness, and
lifelong principles. His writing contains both humor and great
insight into the hearts and minds of recovering criminals.

Highly recommended as a tool to reduce recidivism
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2001-04-03
The text is clearly written and logically organized. The author uses a straight forward approach which he appropriately mingles with humor. Drawings throughout the text add levity. The annotated table of contents is truly beneficial.

Dr. Fauteck has thoughtfully created a practical guide for individuals who are attempting to adapt to life once they have been released from prison. He offers advice spanning the topics from family, friends, loved ones and those who offer an ex-convict assistance in staying out of trouble, to those who assist the ex-convict in maintaining criminal ways.

Dr. Fauteck points out the traps of blaming others for difficulties and firmly advocates personal responsibility. The author guides the reader toward personal growth. If the reader is able to integrate the advice given in these chapters into his/her life, the reader will find himself/herself on the road to success.

I higly recommend this book for those who are incarcerated, prison officials, counselors, mental health professionals, social workers and educators. I predict that if individuals released from prison are able to integrate the guidelines outlined in Dr. Fauteck's, Going Straight into their lives, recidivism rates will diminish considerably.

Anyone can give this reading club idea a try and Elizabeth urges that more than grandmothers do so. Maybe granddad wants to make the book link. Maybe an aunt or uncle could invite nieces and nephews. If you mentor a child during the school year, this could be a summer connection. One of Elizabeth's friends opened the book club to her sister's grandchildren who had recently lost their own grandmother. The options are endless.

Have you ever been so loved... that a lover would wait a lifetime to be with you? That your child would search relentlessly to solve a tragic family mystery? That a stranger would take you in and call you family? That someone would kill for you to right an unspeakable wrong?

Raines Guinn's story mingles murder, mystery, tragedy, bigotry, and hate, intertwined with tales of love - between a man and a woman, between a father and son, and between a town and its people. And no greater love prevails than that of the women of Albaville. Meet the steel magnolias of the west - feminine, proper, loyal and all the while strong and steadfast. These characters transcend stereotype, especially the pastor's wife. Mr. Guinn gives us a look inside small town religion and politics of earlier times, showing unusual insight and sensitivity to the world of women.

If you are looking for a sappy love story dripping with sentiment you won't find it in this intricate, bittersweet novel. You will find a cast of extraordinary characters, and after reading this book, you will want your own "Grandmothers Club" watching your back.

Amidst the innocent setting of a rural Colorado town, a group of local women learn of a forty-year-old double murder. Implicating husbands and fathers, strong evidence compels a vigilante thirst. In the ensuing ethical struggle, motherhood and romance are pushed beyond traditional limits and are redefined to answer life and death questions. In the span of seventy-two hours, a crime against a child is avenged, murderers and their accomplices are sentenced, and a love once divided by the jagged line of color is rekindled. Yet, one evil man remains at large. Against a backdrop of hate crimes and uncommon blessings, The Grandmothers Club delivers its unique brand of justice.
