I picked up the first in the series on a whim and have been caught up in the characters ever since. I like that life isn't always peaches & cream, but there is enough of the good to outweigh the bad, after all, this IS escapism at it's best, right?
A Great Read

This was a good book from start to finish. Hardly any down spots and as usual, plenty of action. Can't wait to see what the future holds for Cullen and Chynna. I recommend this whole series.
Wilks has surprised me again. Interesting plot twists, expanded characters, the suspense continues

If you love the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs, and the two "Magic" series books by Ilona Andrews, you will love this third book in the Wilks series about werewolf/magic/demon/dragon and otherworldly folks. A really suspenseful and fun summer read. I enjoyed every page. This is not erotica, but there are some scenes not suitable for the under 12 age group. I particularly enjoy the writers style, it's not "namby-pamby-kiss-me-once-and-I-fall-in-love-and-take-off-all-my-clothes" kind of romance that fries my bu** and insults my intelligence. There is real thoughtful development of the characters, their relationships and most importantly, the plots.
Just as good on the inside

I have to say, I love the tattooed woman on the cover of this book. But don't just buy this book for the cover. It's a good read.
This one will make you a believer.

Slap me silly or stuff my mouth with soap. I am so eating my words after having read this one...
So okay, 1 & 2 were, at times, frustrating to read, and getting used to the characters and Wilks' style could get trying, at times. In the end...totally worth it in this third installment, which ties everything--from plotting to characters to explanations--so well, I was marveled. And struck dumb.
As things stand: the world is on the cusp of falling apart and surviving Dis (i.e. Hell) was the easy part. It begins with a wham-bham-thank-you-mam tidal wave of magic that coats the entire globe, unleashing power and shifting realms. And creates general chaos and mayhem. By now, we all know that the female deity that the Lupi were created to oppose and eventually destroy, is behind all the trouble. However, to get that, she needs an ancient book, the Book of All Magic that was lost after the Purge, in order to enter this realm.
To be short, there are two interlaced romances and tales in and of their own right. They do develop rather slowly, but its not a bad pace, and this book's plotting is incredibly dense.
Lily's & Rule's tangoing is pretty much status quo and now has that 'awe...that's so sweet' element that was really frustrating, and uneventful (physical-wise), in the first 2 books. I've always appreciated, and rather enjoyed, Wilk's day-by-day spin on the romance part. Very realistic and more meaningful. Love and romance, however, are the least of their worries as Toby, Rule's young son, decided to up and leave his human family to spend Christmas with them, and becomes the center of a plan by Jiri, Cynna's old teacher and perhaps a puppet to Her. To add to the hectic pace and drama, Rule has become inexplicably entangled with his familial enemy, Leidolf, and becomes
embroiled within that pack's religious and political structure. It's still not clear if this is a good or bad thing, but one thing is for certain, it's something wholly unheard of, in any clan tradition.
The second romance is of Cullen and Cynna's, while written with a bit more force, and parallels Rule's & Lilly's, doesn't really bloom until 3/4 of the way. But, boy, is the outcome interesting...though the process of their flirting is subdued and dull, their ability to annoy each other can be amusing. And tedious, since they argue semantics and magical logics of their world, though its purpose is to explain what the hell is going on and why. Wilks may bring in a lot of weird stuff in, but she always gets it explained, and doesn't wait too long to tell you.
Meanwhile--Grandma Yu gets her chunk of play, as we begin to learn more about her and her overall role in things to come. Which is a doozy.
I realized the reason why I was put off with the first two in this incredible series. One, I'm used to a lot of exposition, character internalization of emotions and detailed accounts of emotional battles, both verbal and not. This series doesn't rely on that. It sticks strictly with dialogue exposition, almost entirely third person, and carefully placed descriptions of all action, physical, emotional, psychological, etc, which is hard to get comfortable with at times. There is no stream of consciousness, or much (if any) internal talking by characters. Thus, the narrator is both there and yet not, which is why the characters themselves can feel mechanical and distant. Also, there isn't the usual hot and heavy sex scenes. Which Wilks really isn't into, and doesn't find as essentially important as plotting, which is so well thought out, and focuses on character developments, which is either stable, static or meandering. It's not so much immediate growth, but things happen, and their digesting what to do. A bit more true-time if you imagine it like real life...
By now, the characters are growing on me. I still find them hard to relate to but I do like them, and I appreciate how consistent they're written and behave. Wilks has really made things logically reasonable and believable, consistent, despite the scope of her world, which she knows inside out. And everything else, really. Her style can be clinical, a bit mechanical and choppy sometimes, but she gets her points across that were hook-line-and-sinker for me to keep going, despite my misgivings and my inability to see romance novels out side the box. So thanks and huge kudos for her!
There's so much that happens, that after the other two, it's kind of disorienting but well executed. There's a lot of dialogue that you'll have to tread through carefully, otherwise it won't make as much sense. The one annoying thing is the constant recap and repetition of info that Wilks feels necessary to keep hitting you in the head with. However, I'm on tenterhooks to start the 4th...and thank god I stuck with it.

Alpha male meets alpha female and the sparks fly!
You needn't like westerns to love this book. Caine is the epitome of 'alpha-hunk'-a man of passion, compassion, warmth, depth, understanding & humor.
Desi is fearless, many times to her detriment. Her will & stubborness, combined with Caine's personality, make for an often laugh-out-loud-humorous read.
Absorbing plot, witty dialogue, adventure, continuous sexual tension & blazing hot sex. ***Contains bondage, anal sex, spanking.
First in Hell's Eight Series. #2=Sam's Creed 7-1-8 release date.

I am a big Sarah McCarty fan and I have all of her Promise Series books. I was exitedly looking forward to her books with the new publisher but I fear that the editors that work for Harlequin messed with something that wasn't broke. The ebooks under this author with Ellora's Cave are fantastic. They are easy reads and the stories flow, allowing your mind to envision yourself right in the old west. In Cain's Reckoning the storyline is sound the characters are well developed and you feel that you can get to love them but in the love scenes it's like Harlequin didn't want it to be too erotic. The scene will be rolling along and then just cut off leaving you wondering what the hell happened. On several occasions I had to go back and re-read a section to get a clear picture of what was going on in the scene. They chopped it up and edited it to within an inch of its life, so much so that it's disjointed like a dvd that skips and starts at another place further along. I feel that the editor of this book cut out a lot of vital imagery that would have made the story rock. I think Sarah McCarty made a huge mistake when she contracted with Harlequin because their spice line is much too prim for her stories and they ruin what could have been a novel on the level of her Promise Series books.
A Disapointment

I devoured Sarah's past books within hours and enjoyed each one in her Promise series but sadly she's had to cut some of the "steam" you'd witness in her other novels in my opinion. Sadly the retail book world is not ready for an electrifying author like Sarah and you can see as such in this book and the editing of the love scenes.
Sadly this one is a bit lacking. I adore the author with a passion but I hope this novel doesn't set the scene for upcoming novels by Spice!
A fine author that's resorting to editing her passionate nation for a wholesale book line!
I agree with the other reviewers that mentioned the book was too long as well. I wouldn't have minded if it was as good as the Promise series but it was seriously grating on my nerves towards the end and I had grind myself towards the disappointing finish.
Stick with E-books Sarah! I'd love it much more!
Anyone with me?

The length of a novel wouldn't bother if I am hooked on the story, however, this wasn't the case. The details of each day became ponderous. About 250 pages in, I realized the characters were only in day two or three-they met in the first few pages-and they hadn't done anything interesting. I actually would skip two or three pages at a time and realize I didn't miss a thing.
Desi's character, while I can sympathize to an extent with her, got on my nerves by the end of the book when she still had the same 'issues' with Caine. Personally, even without her personal problems, I didn't see anything lovable about her. What did Caine see in her?
While the love scenes were hot, they certainly didn't make me blush. I bought this book based on the rave reviews, however, I was not impressed.

Caine Allen is a Texas Ranger and a member of Hell's Eight, a group of rough men who have fought and killed their way to a reputation of being ruthless, fearless, and ambitious. When Caine and his friends are sent after a group of kidnapped women, Caine is almost disappointed at how stupid the kidnappers are. They haven't managed to cover their tracks very well and the women can be heard screaming from a distance. It's going to be his pleasure to put these idiots out of their misery. But when Caine gets closer to their camp, one of the women catches his eye. With long blond hair and big blue eyes, she stands one to one against her captors with nothing but grit and determination to protect her--and she puts a pretty big fight.
Caine soon learns that this woman is name Desi, and she's the one he's specifically been sent to retrieve. The other women in the party are jealous of her, calling her scandalous names and implying that she has a way of tempting men that is unholy. And Desi doesn't defend herself against their accusations. What she does do is run. Repeatedly. She tells Caine that if he takes her back to her people, she'll die there, and the look in her eyes lets him know that she means it. When Caine gets back to town and sees the untrustworthy guardian she's been assigned and how his hands clench when he looks at Desi, and the guardian's friends who all look at Desi with lust in their eyes, he knows he can't leave her there. Making good on the promise to take care of her, Caine takes Desi back to Hell's Eight with him, where he can protect her and know that she's safe. And the only way to get away with it is to make her his wife.
Caine's Reckoning, Sarah McCarty, and the Hell's Eight books have just gone on my auto-buy list. This book was so good! To begin with Caine, I couldn't think of a better hero. He's alpha, protective, dependable, and hot hot hot! From the minute he decides that Desi's going to be his, that's the end of it. And when he learns the treatment that she suffered at the hands of her guardian and his cronies, the second thing on his list of things to do becomes to avenge her honor. But first he's got to take care of his woman and let her know that she's safe. And boy, does he.
If you've got a problem with damaged heroines, this is certainly not the book for you. Desi is broken by the time Caine gets to her, though she's still got a lot of fight left. It's just she's had to endure a harsh life--her parents were killed, her sister is missing, and she's been used and abused for so long she doesn't believe that she actually deserves to be treated gently. Even though Caine and his friends do nothing to rile her, everything to show her that she's safe with them and that they'll protect her, the past abuse colors her judgment from the start.
I know a lot of people think this book is too long, but because of Desi's past, I felt every bit of it was necessary. The thoughtful, careful descriptions of how Caine breaks down the walls she's erected, the tender, gentle way that he cares for her and gains her trust, and the time and care he takes to show her that what happened to her wasn't her fault and that he is not going to let her past affect their future, were absolutely integral to the plot and I wouldn't have had it any other way. This book was so so good that if I hadn't finished it at midnight I probably would have gone out right then and bought the next book in the series, Sam's Creed (Hell's Eight). I'm DYING to know what happens next in this series, and can't wait to get my hands on some of McCarty's other books. If you like erotic romance that doesn't shy away from harsher topics, if you like your heroes alpha, and if you're wondering where all the good western romances have gone, Caine's Reckoning has got you covered on all fronts.

I am not going to go into too much detail, I see this has been done already. I did not like the fact that this story was in the 1st person, I found that reading this in a 1st person did not add as much depth as I normally find in my novels. I also did not consider this a romance novel. Will and Jessie had few interactions, and what interactions they had were unstimulating. Overall I find this a disappointing read and I do not recommend. I find this more of a supernatural story than a romance novel.
Even better than I had hoped

Jessie McQuade is just a small town Wisconsin cop when things start going screwy. What seems like a random car accident pushes her into a world where werewolves roam the streets, gorgeous professors walk around naked, and German werewolf hunters prove the most sane minds of the bunch. It's up to Jessie to try and stay ahead of the pack, before the werewolves win and nobody's left to fight them off.
I actually read "My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding" before this, and got my first taste of the author there with her short story, "Charmed by the Moon." Because I enjoyed that one so much, I decided to check out the entire series, and I was thrilled to see the two characters from that in this first offering. Even better, the book turned out to be swiftly paced, with an incredibly likable heroine, a gorgeous romantic hero, and supporting characters that leap off the page. Jessie and Will both have their insecurities, and while the suspense was mildly spoiled for me because I read that later short story about them, there were still moments when I questioned just who was a good guy and who wasn't.
I'm also tremendously relieved because it doesn't fall into the whole mate trap that so many shapeshifter/werewolf romances do. That might change for later books, which I plan to start reading as soon as I can get them, but for this one at least, it made a welcome change.

Jessie McQuade has seen her fair share of things in her years on the Miniwa, Wisconsin police force - but nothing so strange as the wolf attacks plaguing the small town recently. When a wolf hunter shows up and she is assigned to help him, she starts wondering who to trust, and if she can trust the hunky professor Will Cadotte who has been giving her information about local Indian beliefs about the strange werewolf-like creatures that seem to be gathering around Miniwa.
Blue Moon is an interesting read. I never figured out who was good and who was bad until told and yet I know that if I went back and re-read it I would see all the clues, which is something I appreciate in a novel. Just for that I would give it at least 4 stars. But I'm forced to bring my rating down a notch when I consider the multiple times I saw words misused in the novel. Words where, if the author didn't know the correct word to use, the editor surely should have. For example, at one point a character should have said "descendant" but instead says "ancestor." Big difference there. It happens several times throughout the novel.
I'm interested to see more of the series, but I won't expect it to be anything more than preternatural fluff with good sex.

Some series you can read out of order without major spoilers. In fact there is one science fiction series that I read in precisely reverse order without a problem. However, I read book 3, (Dark Moon), first and it gives away a lot more than who survives into the sequels. However, there is a limited number of characters in this particular book whose turn to the dark side would matter in any emotional sense, so the villain(s) probably will not be a surprise anyway. But if you don't want to be spoiled, read this book first.
This is a first person point of view novel. It's more a romance than anything else. It isn't particularly scary. It isn't particularly gory. There's loose ends and plot holes so it's not much of a mystery. However, it isn't a bad casual read and the hero is quite likable.
The viewpoint character, a police officer in a small Wisconsin tourist town, is also likable and competent. (Odd how in (Dark Moon)she loses her likable qualities when viewed in the third person.) She has self esteem and family issues. The love interest also has self esteem issues-- and a habit of engaging in suspicious activities that I haven't seen since I last read a Gothic novel. (Remember how when anything questionable happened in Gothics the hero was always in a position where he could have done it?) I am happy to say though that the sexual activity in this book has a purpose beyond stimulating the reader's limbic system and filling up the pages. It does help a bit to flesh out the characters.
The ending was disappointing in one regard. There is a twist that allows the villain to be defeated in a ridiculously easy way and it is a doozy of a deus ex machina. It I hadn't been reading a borrowed book it would have hit the wall with considerable force. The only conclusion I can reach is that the author had painted herself into a corner and didn't want to do the work it would take to get her characters out of their fix.
Get this one from the library for a casual summer read.

I thought Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series was good, but I very much enjoyed reading this historical of hers. Court was perfect. He was rough and ready, reminding me of Cade from her paranormal series. Anna and Court's relationship is slow to build in typical Cole fashion, but I felt connected to these two characters throughout the whole book.
I'm not a huge historical romance reader. I dislike the formal English setting, with the balls and precise manners. But I love historicals with fierce Scottish men and this book delivers!

This is the first of a trilogy about the MacCarrick brothers who have feared an ancient family curse all their lives and resisted lasting relationships with women until that ONE comes along who wont be denied. Filled with suspence and sexual zing between the characters from the beginning.

I'm not a big reader of historicals and normally don't care much for novels where the hero and heroine argue a lot, but this is one of those rare books that overcame my normal likes and dislikes because it was so darn good.
I won't go into the plot (it's rather complex to be summarised) but I would like to write a bit about the characters and what makes them special. The hero, Court McCarrick, is rough, tough and not exactly well-mannered. His sexy Scottish accent is brilliantly written by Kresley Cole. Although Court wasn't always nice to the heroine at the beginning, his actions were understandable because he felt so vulnerable around her and unworthy. Annalia is a really good heroine. She is strong and clever without being shrewish, and she deals with Court very well.
One of the best aspects of the book is that both the hero and heroine become better people and learn a lot about themselves. Court discovers he has a tender side and is capable of love, whereas Annalia realises she has a narrow view of the world and should ask for things rather than give orders. The second half of the book is when the characters really come into their own and start to forge a true relationship - so don't be put off by the bickering between the couple at the beginning.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I will be sure to re-read it many times in the future. Some of my favourite scenes were where Court tried to defend and protect Annalia againt almost impossible odds. He never hesitated to put his life on the line to save her and was incredibly brave. What a man!

Good series. Action mixed with lots of sexual tension..and denial about the sexual tension...funny too some of the situations and characters.. Good strong characters, and a pretty good story, set in a period piece.
It follows a young woman who ends up falling for the wrong guy (someone not considered a gentleman)..and he for her..yet they're both in denial, through out most of the story..added to that an unsavory gentleman is trying to make her marry him, thus preventing dragging her family into a battle, though he captures her brother (unknown to her)...
Each book follows a different brother, as they find and settle in (or try to) with their mate.

No need to reproduce plot so here's the skinny...this book is hot! Annalia is a bit sassy to say the least and Court MacCarrick is the sexy man/beast of a Scot. Basically she saves him, he's a little put out by that since he's a "manly man" and then they fight a great deal. She thinks he's hot but is repressing her sexuality because she basically thinks her mother left her as a child because of her "passions" for another man so she denies those feelings. Court is also denying his feelings because of some family curse which makes him think he's basically a death wish to Anna. The characters were so funny, they really reminded me of a husband and wife with the way they fought. Can't wait for Hugh's story! I'm ordering it for my library tomorrow!

This series started with Witchling about three sisters from Otherworld half fae- half human. Yet each is different and the books take one sister's path at a time, alternateing between the three. In Witchling the first book is about Camille the Witch and apparently the nyphomaniac. The sex is porn quality and I am now told on an Anita Blake style. Something the boys of this world will enjoy, but saying these books are paranormal romance is a misnomer. This book is the second sister's path and less of a turn-off in that respect. The reason I continued reading the series is the Storyline is actually GOOD! If you can get past alot of the BS it reals you in. Darkling is the best of the four books out so far, but this one isn't too bad. I wrote a scathing review of the first book but apparently you can put alot of 'porn' sex into a novel but not it's review! Thank the gods this has less of that and more plot. I don't mind if the sex is relevant to the character, but sometimes in this series it seems a little too gratuitous. Try the authors other series if you want romance..The Chintz and China series.

I loved this book, I didn't want to put it down. I loved how Delilah is fragile yet dangerous, the storyline and the world Yasmine has created. Very excitinig and original. I would've liked more flirting/sex between Delilah and Zach but Chase filled in nicely. Can't wait for Menolly's turn in book 3.

Changeling is told from Delilah's point of view. She's the middle sister and she's a werecat, she changes into a long haired golden tabby. In this book she is approached by a member of the Rainier Puma Pride, Zachary Lyonnesse, because someone is killing members of his pride; leaving behind a dried up husk with the heart missing. Upon going to the pride's compound Delilah and her sisters discover that a demon is behind the attacks and ask the pride if they have any idea who could be doing this to them.
At that point The Hunters Moon Clan is brought up because of an old fight between the two groups, but their leader is dead, it couldn't be them. But the demon scent also had the scent of werespider mixed into it so it bears looking into, which means talking to the Autumn Lord, something that isn't to be taken lightly. The Autumn Lord is in charge of spiders, so he would know about werespiders as well, the price to talk to him may be something to high to pay.

The second book in this captivating series by Yasmine Galenorn, we follow the story along with Delilah D'Artigo, middle sister of the three half-blooded fae who have decided to work their magic earthbound. Camille is the eldest, and Witchling was our chance to get to know her. Now we find out about the were-cat's secrets that she doesn't share with her sisters - much of it relating to her other life as a cat, but also some of her PI work, as well. But this time she knows she's in over her head when one of the local were-puma clans hires her to look into the multiple murders of their clan members, so she invites Camille and Mennolly (her vampire sister) to help her examine the scene of the crimes.
Delilah is the middle sister, although she is usually treated like the youngest because of her whimsical feline nature and her tendency to morph into a cat whenever she is stressed out. She is delighted by butterflies and shiny ornaments in either form, but she has a lot more trouble reigning in her impulses when she is in her were form. When were-puma Zach Lyonnesse strolls into her office, all of her senses are on alert. Zach's pack-mates are dying and no one knows why or how to stop it. Delilah, confused by her reaction to Zach, agrees to investigate the scene to see if it is something within her purview, but only if she can bring her sisters with her.
Meanwhile, the sisters are hearing rumors of trouble in the Otherworld - wars among the factions - and their father and aunt are in the middle of the situation. Trillian, Camille's lover, is able to travel between worlds to gather information, but when their father disappears after warning them of a Degath Squad crossing to Earth, the girls realize that things have progressed much further than they had thought and danger was surrounding them from all sides.
Delilah and her sisters must call upon all of their strengths to fight the battle that is coming. All of their friends are banding together to help however possible - but they end up with much more than anyone ever bargained for when they call upon an Immortal for information.
Galenorn is a master storyteller who is not afraid to pull punches while be-spelling her readers with her magical journeys. Her characters are far from perfect and make mistakes just like the rest of us - without giving it away, the tree episode is absolutely hysterical and something many readers will be able to relate to from their personal experiences. I have enjoyed every single fictional work by this author, and she can't write fast enough for me.
Mystery readers who enjoy the paranormal or fantastical elements of stories won't be able to put this one down, but I'd recommend reading Witchling first for the full effect.

This love story is a real page turner. The dream premonitions and Lia's sudden maturity into a full Turning dragon all wrapped up with Zane's reluctance to get even one hair's breadth closer to one of the Alpha family make this story a mesmerizing experience. And on top of it all the stone they are searching for can wreak havoc on the entire species. And to top even that, the reader (as well as Lia) believes Zane would like nothing more than to do just that.
Some amazing, exotic locations and side characters round out the story. I have one problem with the believability of something that happens in the climax (regarding the stone itself and it's sturdiness) but other than that (and that's probably just my own little bugaboo), I can give this book a high recommendation.
Start with The Smoke Thief, the first book in the series.

This book is part of the Wolf Breed series which is an offshoot of the Feline Breeds series. The Genetics Council used genetic experimentation to create humans with animal DNA, called Breeds. The Breeds were tortured, experimented upon and kept in captivity, but eventually escaped. The Council and other groups are trying to capture and/or kill them.
Dash is part wolf. He has spent twelve years in the army and Special Forces. Cassie selects his name as part of a school project to write letters to men in the services. They become pen pals. When he realizes that Cassie and her mother Elizabeth are in danger and living on the run, he takes a leave from the service to help them.
I recently read Death Angel by Linda Howard. It gave an excellent description of how Drea was on the run from bad guys. The author described many smart things that she did to survive, and many smart things that Simon did to find her. In Wolf Breeds, Elizabeth has been on the run for two years from bad guys. Dash has been searching for her for six months because he wants to help. The author doesn't tell me how the bad guys keep finding her or how Dash found her. I would have liked that, but I realize this is supposed to be more about erotic sex than a typical romantic suspense novel. However, I think it would have been easy to add a little more plot development and take away some of the "ponderings in the mind about what to do" that Elizabeth does early in the story and Dash does later in the story.
The first part of the story was better than the last part. The first part was meeting, finding, protecting, being on the run and developing a relationship. The last part was preparing and planning to get the bad guy.
There were fewer sex scenes than I expected, but they lasted several pages. There was a thread of anger or roughness to them. Since he is a Breed, Dash has a couple of physical differences from human males that occur during sex.
CAUTION SPOILER:
I was surprised and enjoyed Dash borrowing a military Hummer with night vision to travel with Elizabeth during a snow storm.
Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes six, some several pages long. Setting: current day U.S. Copyright 2004. Genre: erotic paranormal romance.

I am a sucker for the breeds series but particularly if it involves a child. All my protectiveness comes out as does Wolfe's. This is a man who as tries not to make friends. He considers himself a loner little does he know that all those acts of kindness has not gone unnoticed. He will need all those friends and allies to save Elizabeth and her daughter from the experimentation of the evil genetics' council. They are the ones that think of breeds as not human but animals. It was another great read. This story is a continuation of the breed series. Everyone has a preconceived notion of the coyote breeds, they are the merciless hunters used by the genetics council. This is not the case with Kiowa. He has been asked to keep an eye on the president's daughter. He is certainly unsuspecting that this is his mate. What follows is fast paced and riveting, as he tries to keep her safe from those who would kidnap her. Yes, anything that would keep a bill from passing that makes the breeds responsible for their own future.

I am writing this review especially for people who don't normally read these types of books (paranormal EroRom), because this was the first such book for me. I bought this book because I have Angela Knight's book on writing (which is very good BTW) and I needed some guidance on how to write love scenes. I am a mystery writer, so these don't come naturally to me.
The love scenes are generally very well crafted, and helped me to understand point of view. But what really surprised me was that I grew to love the characters in this book, especially Kel. When I first began reading the book, I admit I was a bit snotty about it. My books have quite a bit of hard forensic science in them, so this "Mageverse" stuff was weird to me. At first. Then, as I adjusted to the idea that the hero was a dragon who could assume human form, I came to appreciate the world that Knight created.
Where could you find a better hero than Kel? He has it all: he's handsome, courageous, and a great warrior. But he's also kind and sweet, which is important since (as I already mentioned) he is a huge dragon when he's not a buff guy who can do magic. I fell in love with Kel, which means that Knight did her job!
I'm glad that I gave this book a chance and did not dismiss it out of hand because it's outside my usual choice of genres. Most people who buy this book will be familiar with the Mageverse, and if that describes you, then you will really enjoy the story. But if you are new to EroRom or Paranormal Romance, you should know that there is a lot of sex here (and it's good), but it is a rocking magical adventure too. Good stuff!

Nineva Morrow is a princess of the sidhe, an avatar to the goddess Semira, and the only thing that stands between the Mageverse and the Dark Ones. Since birth, Nineva has been raised to believe that she will free Semira from an enchanted sword, and that in order to do so she will have to sacrifice herself to a blue dragon. Little did Nineva know that the blue dragon in question, Kel, would turn out to be her soul mate, and that together they would save the Mageverse from certain doom.
Master of Dragons is only my second Angela Knight book, but I'm still a huge fan of her work. Even though this book is number 8 in the Mageverse series, it's the first I've read in this storyline. That being said, there were definitely times when I knew I might have benefited from a little more background, but the story can definitely be read--and enjoyed--without that sort of grounding force. I liked this story, and will be sure to go back and read some of the others.
Nineva was an interesting heroine. She was born to be a martyr and her self-righteousness and determination to free Semira at all costs were both amusing and irritating. I think it took a hero of Kel's protective, arrogant, and strong nature to temper my initial dislike of her. By the time these two finally decided to make things work and combine their forces for the good of the Mageverse, I was feeling better about them both. Master of Dragons took some getting used to for me (but remember it's my first Mageverse book, so I'm probably in the minority), but once I started liking it, I couldn't wait to find out what happened. Read this book if you're in the mood for a romantic sci-fi fantasy story with a couple who is not afraid to kick a little tail.

Revenge Gifts is for the delightfully (and delightedly) twisted among us. The writing is simply stellar, the story is laugh-out-loud hysterical and totally original. With a hunky (and patient) hero and a delicious heroine whose ideas on what constitutes suitable vengeance simply take your breath away, it's hard to imagine a better way to spend a few hours. It might, however, get you thinking of new product ideas you can suggest to the spunky (if slightly spiteful) heroine. After all, revenge can be sweet, right? (Uh...do steer clear of the undies in this book. At least steer clear of wearing them yourself. Feel free to gift these silky, sexy boxers to anyone--boss, ex, nasty neighbor--who you believe can do with a lesson regarding TSA's complete lack of humor.) Cindy Cruciger is not a personal friend of mine, to my deepest regret--I'd love to buy her a few drinks sometime and just talk with her. She's an amazing writer with a world view that is only slightly skewed--or is that skewered?? --and I'm eagerly awaiting her future novels.
Huh?

What a terrible waste of paper. No plot and the characters are horrible. Why would anyone even like the main character? She's obnoxious half the time and just plain dull the other half.

I bought this book on Saturday the 9th of 2007. I was simply blown away by this book!! This is--almost---every womans' fantasy to have a job like Taras', revenge gifts for the person you want most to get revenge on!! It doesn't hurt any, either, by the ghosts that live with you too!!
I made an all out effort to read this book in one sitting, but sleep is rather important to me. I did manage to finish it up the next day. I sincerely love this book and hopefully, someday, it may become a movie. I feel that many people would simply love to see Tara in action on the big screen.
For anyone considering reading this book, I highly recommend it.
Tara is a woman that has had her share of bad luck and when she opens a business called Revenge Gifts, it takes off!! Unfortunately, between voodoo folks and ghosts and black colored animals, her life get a tad complicated. Never-the-less, she finds love and a kind of 'you keep to your side of the spiritual plain and I stay on my side' kind of relationship with the ghosts in her life.
Tara is a very independent woman and shows that anyone, with any bit of grit inside of them, can make a life and career for themselves, if they try hard enough.

The main story is about a girl Tara who has the ability to interact with ghosts. She has a revenge business selling products like a lace pillow filled with cat hair to give to someone allergic to cats. The writing style was different from most romance novels I've read. I was chuckling many times throughout this book, which was full of subtle surprising humor. Tara would say or think something that I did not expect or was not used to hearing, and that made me laugh. Following are some examples that show the kind of humor in the book. By the way, the book is written in first person as told by Tara.
1. Someone left a black rooster on Tara's porch as a curse, pages 55 - 57. Tara says "I headed over to the side of the building, keeping a close eye on rooster-zilla." A little later Tara says to her friend "Hose down the patio and scootch Kentucky Fried there to the end of the porch." A little later the rooster is on the roof and Tara says: "I can hear the cats yowling inside and Finger Lick'n up above is probably wanting to come down on someone's head."
2. Another section on page 17, follows. Tara is thinking: "I'm not into casual anything. I spent ten years working almost exclusively with men whom I couldn't date and still expect respect from them the next day at work. This is because guys categorize women in three ways.
Way one: I'd do her.
Way two: I'd do her in front of your mother.
Way three: You couldn't pay me to do her.
I've worked long and hard to fall into that last category. It's a hard habit to break once it's perfected."
This book surprised and delighted me. It was a nice change of pace. A romance develops between Tara and Howard, but it is secondary to the main story which is about Tara's life, work, friends, etc. Read this for fun, not for romance.
Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: five. Setting: current day small tourist town in the Florida Keys. Copyright: 2005. Genre: contemporary romantic comedy.

I have never found a book I just couldn't finish before...until I read this one. The plot was poorly executed, the heroine was unlikable, and the overall tone was just plain boring. I'm not too sure any of the 5-star posters actually read the book.
The basic idea for the story has potential, but the author didn't follow through.

Most sequels usually are not as good as the first book, not so with INTO THE SHADOW. With each consecutive book, it just keeps getting better and better.
I LOVED the characters of Arik and Karen. Arik was extremely sexy and Karen was his perfect partner, even though she didn't know it at the time. The book, in parts, had me in tears, weeping for both hero and heroine. Out of the books thus far, this one is even steamer than its predecessors.
Dodd keeps the story going and doesn't miss a beat. Fast paced and entralling it keeps you intrigued until the very last page. In fact this one took me by surprise at the end of the book. I won't give anything away, only to say I'm eager to read the last novel in the series.

This was an interesting addition to the DC series. Adrik is quite different from his brothers: (a) he's suffered, and (b) he likes his darker side (interesting). Thus, this book is necessarily darker than the previous books and Adrik is a more questionable "hero." Sometimes his behavior towards Karen is downright dastardly. At the same time, Dodd reveals enough of his character that we come to understand him, which makes him difficult to hate. When we later see his softer side and he makes penance for his actions (and what a penance, ouch!) it is more easy to believe Karen's feelings for him and accept them together. Once again, I appreciated that Dodd strayed from the boy meets girl-boy and girl like each other-now resist! formula and instead chose other elements for the book's conflict (those pesky Varinskis). Also typical of Dodd, the writing is polished and efficient, with no overly flowery writing or lagging moments. You can read this one straight through.

I had the worst time putting this novel down and ended up finishing it in one sitting. I thought it was wonderful! Jammed packed with adventure, battles, abuse, caveman tactics (he, he). The "bad" brother was definitely bad in all the good ways. With the exception of Zadist from Ward's Brotherhood series, Adrik (aka-Warlord) is my favorite "bad gone good" character.

This is a wonderful addition to this series. Ms Dodd accomplishes in the first 50 pages what some authors fail to in 400 ...establish sexual chemistry and a connection between the main characters under stressful circumstances, and in a short period of time.
In the beginning the author skillfully captures the hero's need to dominate/possess the heroine while simultaneously cherishing and protecting her in his own way. Meanwhile the heroine is deeply attracted to him, but unwilling to be "enslaved" or kept as anything like a possesion. She is her own person and doesn't compromise on that. Her internal conflict is great as she needs both him and freedom equally desperately. This conflict is a key challenge to their relationship when he starts to atone for his wrongs, but also allows the heroine to remain her own self.
I love Ms. Dodd's ability to create both strong female and male characters, and this story doesn't disappoint. It proceeds at a good pace and has entertaining dialogue. My one critique is the heroine's "uncaring" father's about-face and appearance at the end of the book was a little too convenient, but this didn't take away from my enjoyment.

Christina Dodd's characters are strong, stubborn, interesting, and fun. Some romances have rather cardboard male leads, but hers, thankfully, do not.
The background plot regarding the Varinski and Wilder families, the pact with the devil, and the prophecy to redeem the Wilder branch of the family is wonderfully conceived and executed. It's a fresh and fascinating take on things, and is used well to create a fast-paced and suspenseful plot that doesn't rely entirely on romance to keep it moving. I've never been entirely fond of books that rely wholly on the relationship struggles to keep things interesting---they almost always have to ratchet up the personality conflict artificially to keep things going. In this case, the Varinski mercenaries do a fine job of keeping things tense and dangerous as they seek to keep the Wilders from ending the pact.
Dodd conveys a tremendous sense of place. It's easy to see, taste, and feel each location in the book, from the mountains of Tibet to the luxurious gardens of a spa resort or the snowy cliff of a mountain. Her battles are well-drawn, and her sex scenes are hot, sexy, and moderately explicit. My only warning is that while Adrik is still in the grip of his darker side, he's rather domineering, and that includes the bedroom scenes---something that won't appeal to all audiences. This is definitely a romance, though, and one in which Karen wholly holds up her side of the struggle for survival.
All in all a gorgeous book, and I'm definitely reading the follow-on next.
