The information seems to be quite complete and is well presented. The book also has its lighter side. Good value for the visitor lucky enough to get to this part of Scotland.

I did a search on Ledray just to see if she's written anything on solo travel since this book was published almost 20 years ago. I am still patiently awaiting volume 2. It's one of my all-time favorite travel books, and still has some relevence today. Her format is to devote a chapter to each of several trips detailing how they would be suitable for a solo traveler. Think Kentucky Derby, a spa in Baden-Baden, the Orient Express, dog sledding. If you can find one, buy it. It will fuel your imagination and you can always find updated information. But her suggestions for, say, the Derby are right on today as they were back in '88.

"A Fun Summer Book!"

I am an elementary school librarian, and I have always found this book to be a crowd-pleaser! I enjoy reading it to first graders every year before school lets out for the summer. The children love the idea of a sandcastle contest and a salami-loving dog! The fact that they can help solve a mystery adds to the fun. I find some of the lingo in the story to be a bit dated or not great to use as a read-aloud so I slightly adjust it as I read. But overall, this book is guaranteed to keep your audience happy!

Colorful, Catchy, but not as good as recent years

I have always enjoyed Gospel Light's VBS curriculum. Most of the years recycle familiar stories from the life of Jesus, but this year, all the stories and texts come from the Old Testament. And other than the story of the birth of Moses, many of these stories are obscure (Baruch presenting a scroll of Jeremiah's prophetic warnings to the court officials of King Jehoiakim).

The music is tremendous. Many of the songs take their lyrics right out of the Bible, and the tunes are extremely catchy, with Mission Impossible type melodies. But the theme lessons for the day do not always naturally follow from the text. For example, the lesson about trust is implicit at best in the story of Moses' infancy. The same thing is true about the concept of training for God in Daniel chapter one.

As a pastor, I struggled at with whether to teach the Bible stories as I understood them, or as the VBS material presented them. In most instances, it worked fine. I love the previous years of Gospel Light's VBS, but this one was not quite as biblically accurate in my opinion.

sweet kids book for ages 7-10

This is a great gift idea for any kid. It teaches about the prejudice that happens in the real world and how to deal with it. Sylivie learns to forgive "Clair" (whom she befriends while on vacation in the country) who, along with her fellow country friends, snubs her because they are well-off country kids while Sylvie is a poor city kid. Sylvie realizes with the help of her mom that Clair was just scared of her because she was a little different. Had Sylvie brought Clair to the city for a visit, Sylive's city friends might be wary of Clair because she's a country kid. In other words, Sylvie learns she isn't perfect either, so she gives her friendship with Clair another try. This is a great book to read to your child if you want them to learn how to get along with everyone and learn that forgiveness is necessary if you don't want to be all alone. The illustrations are very good. I highly recommend school, daycare, and church librarians to purchase this book.

I was looking forward to reading this book.Because Jill is my favorite character. In that respect I was not let down. There were plenty of Jill scenes. But I was a little dissapointed because there isnt much skatting in it. So one star down for that.

Summer's back for a second summer vacation in the Florida Keys.

She's just graduated from high school and she's back to chill with Diana, her cousin, and Marquez, her best friend. Unlike last summer, Seth won't be there. Instead, her new fiancé will be on the West Coast for an internship.

When an old fling shows up, Summer must figure out her heart and where her loyalty lies before things spin out of control. Diana is hiding a secret crush on Seth and, if Summer's not careful, Diana could ruin her cousin's relationship. Marquez is dating Summer's brother, but she's also going through a downward spiral.

Can the three girls survive the roller coaster summer without destroying their friendship?

TAN LINES follows up BEACH BLONDES and is perfect for readers craving romance, sun, friendship, and drama.

Good Things Come in Small Packages

I recently purchased Teach Yourself One-Day Italian before a trip to Venice, Italy. I purchased the CD as a supplement to a 16 lessons set of Pimsleur Italian I had purchased and Michel Thomas' Deluxe Italian 8 CD set. I was very impressed with Elisabeth Smith's format and presentation. Far superior to any one CD language lesson I have come across and listened to. The CD provides exactly what it offers - 50 important words and a few sentences to help you on vacation. The format was very entertaining and instructive. It was easy and fun to listen to the CD over and over again as reinforcement of the learning process. I highly recommend this CD to anyone who wants to learn a few basic words and sentences before a trip. I was so impressed that I purchased all of Elisabeth Smith's other Teach Yourself One-Day CDs (French, German, Spanish and Greek). They all follow the same format. I always appreciate knowing a few basic words of the language of the country I am visiting. Typically, I use Pimsleur Level 1 CDs to get a basic grasp of a language and learn how to correctly pronounce the words. However, Pimsleur is costly. For those interested in just learning a few words at a great cost, you can't go wrong purchasing any of the Teach Yourself One-Day language CDs. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because she made me want to learn another 50 words right away. I would immediately purchase any CD Ms. Smith would put out that offered to teach me 100 to 300 basic words and sentences using a similar learning format. Thank you for a great product. I only hope others will purchase these little gems to keep them in circulation.

One caveat regarding the Teach Yourself One-Day Spanish. This CD uses the pronunciation of the Spanish of Spain rather than the Spanish of South America. Spaniards pronounce the letter "z" and the letter "c" before e or i as the "th" in the word "teeth" rather than as an s. It comes out sounding like a lisp. Therefore, in Spain they pronounce bicicleta as "bithicleta." The CDs in her series are aimed for tourists visiting Europe and not Latin America. So there is no problem with her CDs for Italian, German, French or Greek. However, the Spanish CD pronounces and uses words more typical of Spain than Latin America.

Nice addition

This set will be a nice addition to your library if you learn Russian for the first year. As a Russian language teacher I think these CDs can help you to improve the basic Russsian conversation skills BUT a big minus of this set is that all Russian conversations are given in English transcription along with the translation. I am converting for my students these conversations in original language because if you are serious about learning any language you should be able to read it. Otherwise these CDs are not a bad buy.
