Introducing young readers to Victoria and the Letter VReview Date: 2004-04-04
The first thing young readers learn is the difference between the capital letter "V" and the lowercase letter "v," as well as seeing how it can come at the beginning of a word like "volcano," and in the middle of words like "movie," but never at the end of any of the words in the English language. That means that this time around in the back of the book there are only two columns of words and not three. However, you will find Fun Facts about vegetables and volcanoes in the back, along with suggestions for books on those same topics appropriate to their reading level. Because the letter "V" is not highlighted every time it appears in a word, beginning readers will be able to look through "Victoria's Vacation and the Letter V" to find other examples and learn to be able to read the book all on their own.

Teddy has only science summer school waiting for him after the last bell of the semester. He spends most of his time pondering about what it would be like to fight aliens and to travel in outer space. When he gets home there is an alien in his room. They decide to trade places...and Teddy ends up with the vacation of a life time. The alien is a prince from the planet Manoosh, and Teddy finds more than he expected there. Love and adventure await him.
The author and illustrator are both comic book writers, and there are a lots of wonderful illustrations in this book. It is a short story, but there is a lot of drama and comedy involved. It was a good twist on the classic story of the The Prince and the Pauper (Puffin Classics) written by Mark Twain. If you like this story then check out that one; you may like it.
I would have liked to have heard more about the alien's adventures here on Earth--but maybe next time! So if being here on this planet is not very interesting, check out this adventure and go to the planet Manoosh!
