This book is a great resource for planning your Church's vacation Bible school. The ideas in this book would work with any theme. It covers all the basics from planing to follow up ideas. It has really good ideas for promoting your VBS. It has a ton of reproducible articles, forms and clip art. It has informative articles to share with your VBS staff. Some of the articles are on discipline, age level characteristics, effective storytelling, and leading a child to Christ. I highly recomend this book to anyone needing help with their VBS.

Introducing young readers to Victoria and the Letter V
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2004-04-04
"Victoria's Vacation and the Letter V" by Cynthia Klingle and Robert B. Noyed is the twenty-second volume in the "Alphabet Friends" series, which devotes each 24-page volume to one letter of the alphabet. The idea is to give beginning readers a fun way of mastering letter recognition by telling an entertaining story highlighting a single letter. In "Victoria's Vacation and the Letter V" we meet a young girl who is home on vacation for five days. Throughout the book words with the featured letter are highlighted, with miniature color illustrations above important words in the text (rebus drawings of violets, vases, vegetables, etc.), and color photographs. The goal is for these read-to books to become stories that younger children can read for themselves and this simple, solid approach should help big time.

The first thing young readers learn is the difference between the capital letter "V" and the lowercase letter "v," as well as seeing how it can come at the beginning of a word like "volcano," and in the middle of words like "movie," but never at the end of any of the words in the English language. That means that this time around in the back of the book there are only two columns of words and not three. However, you will find Fun Facts about vegetables and volcanoes in the back, along with suggestions for books on those same topics appropriate to their reading level. Because the letter "V" is not highlighted every time it appears in a word, beginning readers will be able to look through "Victoria's Vacation and the Letter V" to find other examples and learn to be able to read the book all on their own.

This is an excellent guide to anyone planning a trip to the English, Scotch, or Welsh countryside. Listed are hundreds of villages by geographic location with maps of nice walks that can be taken. The sights along these walks are described along with a little bit of history. This is especially valuable for someone wishing to visit British villages, but not sure of which ones to go to.

This book is the most amazing resource for anyone planning a trip to Disney World during a busy (peak season) time. It is loaded with helpful hints about the various resorts, parks, transportation, and dining options. It even offers suggestions about what to pack; from where to view a parade; how to deal with the FASTPASS; Extra Magic Hours. This book will become your "Bible" if you, too, must visit WDW during a peak season.

Have you ever wanted to have an adventure in space? Have you ever dreamed of being a prince on another planet and having to fight evil aliens? Well, Teddy did--and he got his wish in this wonderful adventure story.

Teddy has only science summer school waiting for him after the last bell of the semester. He spends most of his time pondering about what it would be like to fight aliens and to travel in outer space. When he gets home there is an alien in his room. They decide to trade places...and Teddy ends up with the vacation of a life time. The alien is a prince from the planet Manoosh, and Teddy finds more than he expected there. Love and adventure await him.

The author and illustrator are both comic book writers, and there are a lots of wonderful illustrations in this book. It is a short story, but there is a lot of drama and comedy involved. It was a good twist on the classic story of the The Prince and the Pauper (Puffin Classics) written by Mark Twain. If you like this story then check out that one; you may like it.

I would have liked to have heard more about the alien's adventures here on Earth--but maybe next time! So if being here on this planet is not very interesting, check out this adventure and go to the planet Manoosh!

An interesting history of settlement of San Bernardino Mts.
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 1998-07-21
The book is a brief history of the settling of the San Bernardino mountains (and Southern California in general) which traces the intrusion of man into the area from pre-history to modern times. The primary focus of the book is the establishment and history of the Weesha Country Club. Contrary to it's name, the Weesha Club is a social and recreational club which sits astride the Santa Ana River in San Bernardino County, California. The club was originally formed to acquire and maintain a former homestead for the enjoyment of the members and their families. The authors' research included review of historical archives, interviews with surviving family members of the original founding families, oral histories and contributions by current club members. The result of their work is an interesting compilation of historical fact, local lore and colorful annecdotes. It's suggested reading for students of California history
