This book was a childhood favourite of mine and my brothers. He is about to turn 40 and I am buying him the hardcover to replace our long lost edition. Great to see the original illustrations.

A charming tale for young animal lovers

In this charming book Orlando and his family travel to the seaside to escape the sweltering heat. They explore the town, play on the beach and have adventures with kites and bathing suits. While exploring the tidepools for possible mermaids they happen upon a shipwreck and Orlando bravely rescues an African queen and her people. The illustrations are wonderfully old fashioned and quirky little touches abound. Animals are especially well drawn, each having a great deal of personality and physical expression. Perfect books for animal loving young readers.

My 4 year old loves princesses and she enjoys this cute little book about Jessica, a young lady who likes to play make-believe princess. She even has a tea party with her other princess friends. A delightful book for little princesses everywhere!

I bought this for my 3 year old daughter who is all girl. She is just like Princess Jessica and loves to dress up and play pretend. It even has a real world older sister who makes fun of Princess Jessica for dressing up but the young girl stands up for herself and has a ball.

I can't tell you how many times my daughter has gone out in public in dress up clothes or wearing all her jewelry (just like Princess Jessica) but I've learned to be proud of her individuality and style.

I found this guide to be very impactful for vacation planning. This directory lists most frequently visited state attractions and many other very useful facts abour each state. The maps are very accurate as well. I am now purchasing a more up to date version.

If you travel by road a lot for leisure purposes, this atlas is a must-have. Every state has its own page of top cities and attractions, along with other useful information such as highway info, scenic drives, and campground info. I bought one in 1996 and have been using it ever since; it has been all over the nation with me, from DC to Dallas to Denver. It's survived the test of time, and now I must break down and buy a new one.

And mine was red. Asbury's books about primary colors are delightful. You'll also want to buy, as did I, Bonnie's Blue House and Yolanda's Yellow School.

Buy all three of these books. They are warm and comforting. I love reading them and my baby (although young) loves hearing them. It makes me want to have a red vacation.

Nancy, Bess and George are at Echo Lake for a vacation with Nancy's Dad.

There's all the summer fun you could imagine, plus the most exciting of all -- a sandcastle building contest. The contest is held every year, and everyone is welcome to enter... But, somebody doesn't want Nancy and her friends to enter, because they aren't locals.

When things start happening to ruin the castle that Nancy Drew and her friends researched and worked so hard to create, there's an ever-growing and changing list of suspects!

Carolyn Keene has produced another mystery that will enthrall her young fans. It's as much fun as a day at the beach!

Unique Santa Story

Review Date: 2001-04-02
This is the most unique Santa story you will ever read. My 2-year-old daughter loves the story and asks me to read it again and again. Santa travels to Spain for a vacation but goes incognito. In a family with 3 children, the two older ones make fun of this "weird old guy" and almost don't get their Christmas presents when they aren't nice enough to their younger brother. The younger brother, on the other hand, is as nice to "Reuben" as he is to everyone else, and is rewarded for it.

A Heaven Sent!

Review Date: 2006-08-05
I'm in the process of buying my first home- as a divorced- mother of one. By all intents and purposes, I've always been a self-confident girl and then woman, but home-buying scared me so much. This book gave me the information I needed to ask the right questions, and had lots of practical insight. I loved the pros and cons of different mortgages types (there are so many options now) and also the individual "real women" writings that detailed other women's experiences. More importantly, I thought and felt that this book was written especially for me- addressing lots of the fears of single womanhood and homeownership and empowered me with all of the information that I needed. Reading this book was also affirming for me- I now know I'm doing the right thing by investing in a property for my new family. I know I'm setting a wonderful example for my daughter too. Its the ultimate act of self-love and self-care.

I totally recommmend this book.

Finally...someone has addressed this exploding trend!

I've been patiently waiting for this book. The trend has been growing for several years(and Fannie Mae says it shows every sign of growing more). And there are certainly a great number of "home buying" books available. But Donna Raskin and Susan Hawthorne have focused specifically on the challenges for single women homebuyers. And they have explored in detail the emotional challenges of this journey (as well as the mechanical aspects). Thank you! I have already ordered two copies from Amazon to be sent to my two daughters, Amy 31, and Jenny 27.

Review Date: 2000-03-30
Stringbean's Trip to the Shining Sea by Vera B. Williams andJennifer Williams is a realistic and imaginative children's story. The format is a scrapbook that chronicles the road trip Stringbean and his brother take to the Pacific Ocean from their home in Kansas. The amusing text is written in the form of postcards the brothers send to family members as they make their way to their destination. The illustrations are unique, and are "photographs" and colorful postcards displaying Stringbean's experiences in a fun and personnal way. The reader feels s/he is actually looking at someone's scrapbook and as the story progresses feels like a family member to whom the postcards have been sent. As well as being entertaining, the book is a useful geography tool for children, allowing them to travel the journey on a map as the brother's make their way across country.
