Reminiscent and honest--Siegmann takes you from the beginning to the end of each experience feeling it as he feels it--completely hopeful--trusting his own reflection, "never knowing, just blooming wild and yellow" (Point Sur Lighthouse Station). This is a book I am delighted to own, to read each poem over and over.

This is a book of journeys, both inward and outward. Poems that transport the reader to places familiar and those unknown. I want to feel Miles wash through me, tramp the paths that few have tread and wonder if I'm truly insane. Ken's poems take you there and beyond. A joy to read.

From Jesus to jazz, the mundane, the sacred, the things we don't see or don't want to admit, it's here in Sanity Went on Vacation. I laugh, I ponder, and then I read the poems again!

Song of the Gypsy is truly one of those little gems that we stumble upon every now and then that surprises and delights us- as does the author. Niki Sepsas is an excellent writer with a strong command of the language. I look forward to reading more of his work.

In Song of the Gypsy, one is utterly transported to Greece and through Niki Sepsas' excellent writing, one can feel the warmth of the people, the smells, beauty, and tastes of this very special place. The novel, with its vivid images, is a sensual love affair with the country as well as the two sensitive people who meet and know they are meant to be together in spite of obstacles that arise. It is a difficult book to put down. We care about these people and are rooting for the situation to work out. At the same time, one hates to see the book end as we want to continue on in their journey through life. I loved the book and hope a sequel follows. We should all be so fortunate to find a love as knowing, fearless, and pure.

Unique and descriptive style

The best compliment I can give for this book is that I have traveled to the area the author references, and reading Song of the Gypsy has made me yearn to return. The book is clearly well researched, and the historical facts are placed in excellent context and with proper relevance to the story. Sepsas' description of an ancient home being "..held together by gravity and the stones familiarity with each other" is an example of his unique style. One gets a vivid mental picture of the interactions, the scenery, and the people of Greece. It was a fun read and I didn't put it down until finished. That is my only criticizm...too short at 175 pages.

Reading this book was like taking a trip to Greece without the expense or hassle of leaving home. The author has an exceptional talent for visual imagery and obviously knows the history of the region. This, plus strong characterization and an unpredictable plot makes it a terrific read. It's a haunting love story and enticing travel brochure in one. I highly recommend it.

"Study Abroad, Travel & Vacation in College" gave me the information that I needed to travel overseas and get credit for the adventure. There are thousands of study abroad opportunities in countries all over the world that the author shows you how to research and access. This book features many different tools for guiding students through an overseas educational experience. The first chapter discusses how to define objectives and establish goals for studying outside the country. The seven other chapters involve resources from researching international programs, facts on program costs, trip preparation tools, tips on how to spend time in a foreign country and a discussion on how to adjust to the return home. The book was simple and showed me what to do every step of the way, so I didn't feel overwhelmed at the prospect of participating in an overseas learning adventure.

The information in this book has definitely made me reconsider my once-forgotten dream of studying abroad. I have always been an enthusiastic traveler, and the examples of the great variety of study abroad options excited me even further. On top of that, I really had no idea that my financial aid could help cover tuition and expenses. Now the question is...where do I want to go?

The Petsiters Vacation Special
By: Tessa Krailing

Sam and Matthew are friends. They are trying to agree on a vacation to a farm. Mrs. Parkin is Matthew's mom. Sam and Matthew like cowboys and are adventurous.
The plot of this story is Matthew's parents are trying to figure out a vacation for the summer. They wanted to go to Disneyland but it was too expensive. The kids decided to go to Marsh farm for their vacation. It turned out to be a big adventure, they had lots of fun learning how to care and feed the animals.
The setting is at a farm durring a hot summer day the time is around the end of July.
The theme of the story shows you that going to a farm can be just as much fun as going to a theme park, because you can learn a lot about animals on a farm and it would be less expensive then going to a theme park.
I like this story because being at a farm is a lot of fun especially if you are with your best friends, also you can learn a lot about different kinds of animals on a farm. Like what they eat or how they live. I would recommend this book because it is a very fun book to read.

my son started reading this series last year when he was in forth grade... he is a good reader but can easily be *turned off* when the book appears too hard (ie words too small...too many pages...picture on the cover too seriious) he really enjoyed this book from cover to cover and actually did a report on it in school... i like that the series is in paper back (it saves money)...i like that some are *special* titles and are a bit longer (it encourges him to read longer books than normally he would) he likes that they are about children solving problems/mysteries.. and that they have animals in them... this book, and the others have been something to look foward to for him

A really good book!

"Vacations With a Purpose" is a crucial tool for anyone leading or participating in a short-term mission or service trip abroad. Whether it's your first trip or your 100th, you'll find useful and easy to follow preparation activities, team member guidelines, packing lists, and much more. My leaders gave us these books for two trips on which I participated, and it really helped me know what to expect, how to prepare, and how to apply the lessons I learned once back at home. Since then I have used "Vacations With a Purpose" when leading teams myself, and have also recommended the book to other leaders. You will not be disappointed!

Do you like exiting books then you should read Katie Kazoo Super Switcheroo? Then you should read Katie Kazoo. Something is always happening.
The main character is Katie. Katie is a good problem solver. The story is about Katie switching bodies with some one. You really don't know who she will switch bodies with. Sometimes she switches bodies with people and sometime she switches with animals. She runs into a lot of bad problems a whole lot. One time she turned into a guard that guards the queen. But then she laughed and got him fired. But he found another job as a comedian. And that is what he really wanted to be.
I would probably recommend this page turning book to a girl , because it is about a girl. So any girls that like extreme should read this book.

For winter break, Carol Hanson finds out she is going to Florida for Mid-winter break to her cousin's house. She is really excited, and although she will miss her horse, Starlight, she knows her two best friends and other members of the Saddle Club (Lisa and Stevie) will take care of him. Carol's cousin, Shiela, loves horses, but she owns a pony that is alittle oo small for her (since she is 16). She doesn't want to part with her beloved pony, and her parents are trying to convince her to get a 'real' horse. Then, while playing at the beach, Carol gets caught in a riptide. Can Shiela's pony prove itself worthy by saving Carol?

This is a great book, I think one of the best Saddle Club books I've read. If you've never read Saddle Club books before, the author (Bonnie Bryant) makes it so you can start anywhere in the series without getting confused, so you can read this book first if you wish! A great book for people anywhere between 10 and 15, but if you are younger or older than that, I'm sure you'd love it, too!

The seven categories of wellness vacations really helped you think about how to focus your vacation so it can make a difference in your life and possibly the lives of others. Also, it's full of ideas for how to actually make such a vacation happen. Of course, Hawaii seems to lend itself to healing and wellness so what better place to try a wellness vacation?

As a travel journalist and Publisher/Editor of Travel with a Challenge web magazine, I have specialized in researching meaningful "alternative" travel for the past decade, that is, ecological, educational, cultural and volunteer vacations worldwide. As such, I welcome this guidebook which breaks new ground in educationally directing vacationers to health and wellness travel opportunities in the Hawaiian Islands. It is a pathbreaking guide to a theme that is clearly in demand, especially within the growing mature travel audience I largely serve, a travel audience either trying to get well or determined to stay well far into their elder decades. The variety of options is mindboggling, catering to every taste from ultra-conservative to way-out New Age. Hawaii is one of the most popular travel destinations on earth -- this book will help all styles of vacationers discover how to move way beyond Waikiki with existing vacation plans to the Islands, or maybe attract new vacationers there for the first time.

This well-researched book by sisters Laura and Betsy Crites is a welcome addition to the growing health and wellness revolution that is joyfully happening in our beautiful 50th state. In addition to excellent information written by various health care practitioners, it offers clear insight into Hawaiian cultural traditions relating to healing and suggests different types of wellness vacations, such as "Nature as Healer," "Lifestyle Modification," and lots of treatment therapies that can be found on the various islands.
The second two thirds of the book provide the reader with detailed information about each island and what is available there, including, most importantly, listings of places to visit, practitioners of all kinds who are available to augment a wellness vacation, healing accommodations, and much, much more! It is truly a treasure for people who are seeking lifestyle changes, healing from physical and emotional illnesses, and even for those of us who live in Hawaii. We now know who is out there practicing various healing modalities and that we are not alone in our personal quest for healing and for spreading the good word about the wonderful healing resources available in this rapidly-growing area of Hawaiian tourism.

Hubie's Back....

Review Date: 2002-10-22
Timid little mouse, Hubie, would have probably been more receptive to the idea of going on a family vacation to exotic Barabooda Island had he not seen the scary movie, The Island Of No Return. And the fact that they were traveling there on an enormous dirigible, The Island Clipper, didn't help calm his fears. But when his worst fears are realized, and a storm sends poor Hubie overboard, he finds himself on an almost deserted island, and ready for the adventure of a lifetime..... James Stevenson has brought back one of his most endearing characters, and just like his previous Hubie stories, The Seaview Hotel, All Aboard, and The Stowaway, his latest opus doesn't disappoint. Mr Stevenson's playful and engaging story, told in a bold and busy comic-book format, is clever and entertaining, and kids will revel in the humorous, action-packed scenes, eye-catching details, and surprise ending. Perfect for youngsters 5-9, The Castaway is a manic, fun-filled romp that shouldn't be missed.

Another Gem from James Stevenson

Review Date: 2004-11-11
James Stevenson is a highly original author/illustrator whose mastery of wry humor is shared by perhaps only Daniel Pinkwater. Here, we meet Hubie the mouse and his family, featured in earlier Stevenson books such as "The Seaview Hotel," and "The Stowaway."

In faux documentary style, the first page announces that it's 1937 (look at the upper left, or you might not see this). Hubie and his family visit a grand, rococo-style movie theatre to see the melodramatic "The Island of No Return" (scenes from which Stevenson draws in evocative shades of gray). Hubie alternately displays and hides his fears--especially of islands. As the youngest family member, and the only one who is afraid, Hubie is somewhat of a castaway in his own family.

Stevenson then tosses in one of many improbable but fun plot twists: The family receives a large, stylish "Greetings from Barabooda Island" foldout from their aunt. They fly there in a dirigible (just another in Stevenson's bag of scene-setting tricks), but Hubie very accidentally falls out and lands in the giant mouth of a pelican swimming a few hundred feet below. "I beg your pardon...," Hubie says very properly," I just fell out of a dirigible." In what now seems like a parody of "Survivor," Hubie meets a castaway on a deserted (or is it?) island, who shows him his baseball stadium, drum set, fruit stand, and speedboat!

Everything is done in a wonderfully offhand style, with more and more fantastic perils facing our heroes on the island. Stevenson's casual drawings and very handwritten-looking text add to the whole tone of sublime nonsense. There's also a nicely done light message at the conclusion, as Hubie's adventures feed a newly discovered appetite for adventure.

Stevenson is beloved by many adults and kids; still, it seems that this superb writer has not received his due recognition. This book is an excellent introduction to his talents, and I hope it will encourage you to read his many other books. The book is 30 pages long, with illustrations done in pen and ink and watercolor, and the usual high production standards of the Greenwillow publishing house.

I by myself live in Tel Aviv, and you hardly can know all of the trendy things going on here, and this book shows them all, and in a very concise form, both visually as well as textually. I personally would have preferred to get even more pictures of the places than being printed in the book (usually a few pictures of one place), but overall every guest of this city will get with this book a clear view, and will know what to visit and where to hang out. Excellent book, highly recommended.
